I copied that recipe, too, Tami. I'll get the stuff I need to make it today. Did you serve anything with it? Maybe some crusty warm bread would be good.

You have convinced me to give it a try. I love wild rice and I love homemade soups, and this looks so easy.

When I made it and it was done, I grabbed a can of evaporated milk and "watered" it down. LOL It was too thick for us. But quick,easy and very tasty!

I used the evaportated milk instead of the half and half. I need to put another can of broth in it, as it was almost like paste it was so thick. I think adding extra cream would make it too rich. It sure was good!

I did not serve anything else with it. Crusty bread would be good, or a salad.

Oops, I have it cooking, but I put the half and half in at the beginning with everything else. I imagine it will separate while cooking and I will have to ignore the looks. I have extra broth if I need it, but it looks ok now.

Someone please tell me why I can't find wild rice, or, where I -can-. Yes, I live in the sticks, (it seems sometimes) but we do have a Food Lion and a Farmer Foods.

We love the Uncle Ben's but don't have it often.

I find it in the grocery store with the rice in tiny boxes (because it is so expensive). Sometimes they put it in the gourmet foods section too.

Lately I've been buying canned wild rice (pre cooked). It's surprisingly reasonble compared to the bags and boxes of wild rice. And very good. Canoe is the brand I see around here. It's in the rice section where they have the white & brown rice. You should find wild rice in any grocery store of even small to medium size.

I'm looking forward to trying this. But I probably won't be able to resist adding some bacon to it! I keep telling myself to always try a recipe verbatim first, then adapt... but c'mon, everything's better with bacon, right? :)

Well, I made it today for tomorrow's lunch and tasted it before I put it in the refrigerator. I do like the rice, but I think it cooks the rice and the soup itself too long at 7 hours. I would be tempted to save some $$ and use brown rice as a substitute for the wild rice. Brown rice has a nice chew to it like wild rice. Yes, some bacon might be nice too.
