We have twin boys on each side of the family. The one set are identical (19 years old)... the other set look nothing like each other (17 years old).

Holly and I are twins. I couldn't ask for a better sister.

My youngest brothers are fraternal and neices are identical. They are 13 and I still have a hard time telling them apart. Twins are so much fun. My mom prayed for hers and my brother had no idea they were having twins until he had to deliver them at home. What a suprise and blessing they have been.

I am a mom of twins. My sons were born 25 years ago, and they are fraternal. They closely resembled each other when they were toddlers so sometimes I had to look twice. Now, people would not look at them and ask if they're twins. On a side note, their names are Bradley and Brian. Brad roomed with a twin in college...his twins name was Brian. Brian was at work one day (pushing carts in the grocery parking lot) and found out he was working with 2 other guys...they were all twins.

When I was a child there were twin girls a mile away that I rode the bus with all thru school. Oh, how I loved those 2... Janice & Janet. I was totally fascinated with twin-ness.

I was ecstatic when I learned I would be a grandmother to twins. They are a blessing & a joy... such fun!

We'll be seeing a lot more fraternal twins thanks to in vitro.

I'm a twin. Sadly, Neva died of breast cancer in 2000 and my life has not been the same. I have twin nieces, nephews, cousins. I'm hoping one of my grandchildren has twins.

i have a paternal aunt & uncle who are tiwns. that aunt had a set of twins, boy & girl, my cousins. and my sis had a set of twins, boy & girl 6.5 yrs ago. i adore them! they are soooo different it is very interesting but they are also sooo close to each other. they absolutely adore my husband & I :-) ~ liz

I had twin girls and now one of them is grandmother to twin boys, born this past summer.

Our elementary school has seen a huge increase in twins due to invitro.

Jasdip - it's because they normally implant more than one embryo at a time. They're never sure how many will actually implant successfully. Most of them are fraternal but it has happened where one will split.

I am a twin and I have twin cousins.

From my side of the family we have a niece that had identical twin girls. My Mother always claimed twins skip a generation, that we would probably never have twins but our children might.

With DH's side of the family, his brother and wife have twin girls, our niece's. Their brother, our nephew and his wife have identical twin girls. 3 sets of twins all together. Makes for interesting family get togethers no matter which side!
oh and the twins part didn't skip a generation on Dh's side! LOL So much for Mom's theory!

I have 27 year old boy/girl twins. They are no more alike than any other brother and sister. The boy was the second born of the two and my only boy out of seven children.

I am an identical twin and I have cousins who are fraternal twins.

Jasdip, to answer your question, with in vitro they generally implant at least two fertilised eggs in case one doesn't make it (as sadly happened to a friend of mine).

My husband is a twin, my father is a twin, my husband's aunt (his father's sister) has two sets of twins, my neice has twins. I fear my daughter might be doomed to twins. LOL

Scissors, the odds of having twins only come from the mother's side, if your daughter does have twins it will have nothing to do with your husband's side. Unless twins run on your side of the family her odds are the same as anyone else's.

The mother produces the egg, and if the fertilized egg splits, they produce identical twins. If two eggs are fertilized, it is fraternal twins.

Another "blame it on the women" fact! But here's one the boys are in charge of:

I had twin sons who were very premature. Derek lived 18 hrs.; Nicky lived 4 days. My twin grands, Lauren and Zac turn 9 tomorrow! They joined a not quite 2 yr. old sister and a 4 and 1/2 yr. old brother. It was chaos with all those kids until they got to be about 3-7 & it's been super fun since then. The twins had their own language and pulled a fast one on me when they were about 15 mos. old. I didn't have a clue that their twin "babbling" was coming up with an escape plan that they implemented. They've always been very close, even now with different activities, friends, teachers.

I have twin grandchildren...In fact I posted a picture of them when they were born 5 years ago. Justin and Amanda are now 5.

Thanks for mentioning the private 'twin talk'. An escape plan, eh? LOL A dear friend did twin-sitting duty last week while her DIL had a third baby. The twins just turned four. My friend says she is a basket case!

My grandfather was a fraternal twin with a twin sister. No one has had twins since.

I have been here from almost the first day but don't often post. I have boy/girl twins who turned 50 on Nov. 11th. My boy twin has boy/girl twins who turned 8 Oct. 10th. My oldest nephew has fraternal girl twins who were 7 June 6th and boy/girl twins who were 2 on July 12th and my youngest nephew has fraternal twin daughters, who look identical, that turned 17 July 31st. All of our twins were natural... no in vitro. We feel truly blessed. My maternal grandfather was an identical twin whose twin died at 6 months of pneumonia.

Your family is certainly flush with twins Betty. (Glad you dropped in & posted :-) ) Our twins were "natural" too,,, not in vitro... so it was total shock when ds told us.

Looks like lots of us know the joy of twins in our families.
