Definitely spend time with your Mom. Sorry your life is so upset. I hope everything will get better for you and yours. I know this is not a happy day for everyone.

I agree, stay safe! I hate bad weather on a holiday where you are supposed to be somewhere. It's always a hard decision deciding what you should do.

I know how you feel about that long drive in bad weather. I'd rather be safe myself. I hope your Mom feels better and you can get together real soon. The weather may just get better and you will get to go.

I remember one year, driving several hours in the worst weather (sleet, white out snow, trucks driving off the road, sliding into ditches....it was horrifying) to bring a "Christmas Dinner" to a relative that had surgery just before the holiday.

He didn't want to miss Christmas Dinner, and we honoured that. Got there to find him gleefully eating a full dinner with the trimmings that had been donated from a local business LOLOL! He said it was even better because THEY didn't make him leave his TV and come to the table to eat, he could sit right there and eat with the TV in front of him ;).

It was nice to share the holiday with him, but really the drive was treacherous.

Wait until it is safe to go, then enjoy your visit. It's you that makes the holiday. It can go where-ever you are and be celebrated however it fits for you. Donuts and coffee and a nice visit with your mom the day after is just as good as a turkey dinner on the actual day or a pot luck with family the week before....see where I am going with this?

I may be joining the "no T-day" club. Our forecast is calling for freezing rain and sleet from late morning into the afternoon. I'm supposed to have dinner with my DIL's family at 12:30--up in the higher elevations.....

Same here.....My DH has been ill for several days now mostly because the medicine he is taking is causing him fits so we have opted to stay home. We were planning a day with the kids in Austin "if" he felt like it and he insisted we were going but he had a rough day yesterday and his daughter and son convinced him last night that we should just stay home....I'm relieved because I know he isn't feeling well...he just didn't want to ruin the day for any one including me...but it's more important to me that he is comfortable.

Well it's definitely a no-go. My sister and her family left ahead of me taking basically the same route (I didn't tag along since they aren't coming back today) and at first she called and said it was fine, just raining. I said, call me back when you get further north. Not even 30 minutes later she called and told me not to come. There were spin-outs everywhere and they are traveling very slowly. She asked if they should wait and have the dinner tomorrow but what else would they eat today if they did that?

So I will go tomorrow if the weather is better which so far it looks like it probably will be. I have Saturday and Sunday too if it comes to that.

And my mom fell again. That happens every time she's been in the hospital. We don't think it's a good sign that we didn't hear the results of her CAT scan yesterday. They said, enjoy your Thanksgiving, we'll go over the results on Friday. It kind of reminds me of how they told her she didn't have cancer the week before my brother's wedding then told her she did right after it.

I really didn't think I cared what happened today but my sister called the minute the boys walked out the door and I welled up with tears as soon as I realized I wasn't going anywhere.

I'm so sorry. I know you'd rather be with your Mom, especially today, but maybe you can go tomorrow. Hugs.

Paula -- Hugs for you here from us all at the KT! It's a really rough patch in your life right now. You're right to skip the dangerous drive; nobody needs *another* crisis/accident that can be avoided.

This day and these hard times *will* pass.

The first holidays after a breakup are rough, Paula. I wish you could have gone to be with family today, but I'm glad you've opted to be safe. My wish for you for the remainder of this holiday is that you find some measure of peace within yourself.

It's not so bad. Pie taste much better when you haven't had a heavy meal before eating it.

I made Truffle Pie again but this year I increased the filling ingredients by half (except for the whipped cream since I didn't buy enough heavy cream) since I used the larger graham cracker premade crust they sell now. Last year I used the larger crust and kept the ingredients amount the same, it still works. Best chocolate pie ever!!
