I like my pumpkin pie, but I like it with a lot of whipped cream on top. It must be flavored whip cream--1/2 pt of whipping cream, 1 tsp vanilla, and 2 to 3 teaspoons of sugar.

I do like pumpkin pie, eat it about 1" slices, every time I pass through my kitchen when I have it :)

My recipe isn't anything special. I do make scratch crusts, not packaged or frozen purchased. It's the plain 'ol Libbeys off the can pumpkin pie recipe, but I substitute heavy cream for the canned milk always....and I like the pie cold.

LOVE pumpkin pie and make the recipe on the Libby's can (I add extra spices!).

Funny but true.... people come for my pie at Thanksgiving, like it is something special. I tell everyone the recipe, but they say it does not turn out the same. I LOVE company, so I don't mind at all. But isn't that weird?

I love pumpkin pie! I craved it the whole time I was pregnant with DS. And he was born the end of July, so that was no fun! Try getting pumpkin pie in a restaurant in July! If I make my own, I use my grandmother's recipe. I have not mastered making my own crust, tho it isn't bad when I bother with it. I usually buy my crust.

OLLIE HOLCOMB�S PUMPKIN PIE

1 large can pumpkin
2 c. sugar
2 c. milk
1 t. salt
1/3 t. cloves
1/3 t. allspice
1/3 t. cinnamon
4 eggs

Makes 2 9" pies or 1 9" Deep Dish and 1 regular 9" pie
Bake at 425� first 15 minutes. Reduce heat to 350� for 45 minutes.

That's the same recipe I use... and I like it with or without whipped cream... and sometimes I use sweet potatos or butternut squash.... deelish..
I always make my crust from scratch too.... easier and less costly...

Tami, I especially ate pumpkin pie when I was pregnant with my boys. My mantra was "Pumpkin pie is a yellow vegetable."

Men never understood that, but women certainly do.

I LOVE pumpkin pie! I haven't made one in years, though. My DD started making them some years ago by using up the pumpkins that were bought for Fall and Halloween decorations.

She peeled them, chopped them up and cooked them; put it in containers and froze it. She often makes pumpkin pies any time of the year, but always at Thanksgiving I know I will get my special pumpkin pie. I don't know what recipe she uses.

(I will say though, back in the day, I had gotten to the point where I could make a great crust.)

I do like pumpkin pie but I like sweet potato pie better and most people don't know the difference....so I nearly always make sweet potato pie. Most of the canned Pumpkin is really pie squash.....

Just came in from Brusters's Ice Cream and had a scoop of pumpkin pecan cheesecake ice cream. Yummy to the tummy..

Love it! I always make it from pumpkins purchased every year and any I can scoff from the kids. Started early with them painting faces on the pumpkins instead of carving a whole bunch and letting it all go to waste. This way they last longer and I spend hours cutting up and cooking pumpkin to freeze for all year round. I don't seem to find a great difference from regular pumpkin or the sugar pie little ones.

I will be baking my sweet potato pumpkin pie tomorrow. I got out my small can of pumpkin and it is the Meijer brand. On the can it says 100% pure pumpkin and under ingredients it says, pumpkin, nothing else is listed. I too have made the Libby recipe and it is good. I will eat it with whipped cream but really like it plain.

Mine is usually based on the Libby's recipe, but I tweak it a bit by skipping nutmeg (allergy), adding a bit of ginger and fancy vanilla.

I have to make a scratch crust or the family would disown me.

Looking forward to trying those Duncan Hines and Hollie Holcomb recipes too.

I always make my own crust, and use the recipe on the Festal can. In fact, our church makes the pies for the annual city-wide Thanksgiving, and that is the recipe that we use. Now I'm hungry for pumpkin pie!

I use the Libby recipe but I get the pumpkin from Aldi's, which is so much cheaper..I also use the pie crust from Aldi's instead of making my own and a very friend of mine (who is a terrific baker) said, it was the best pie she had ever eaten...Of course I didn't tell her my "secret"......That's everyone choice when asked, next is apple......

I loooovvee pumpkin pie, but only the way my mother makes it, which is really a pumpkin custard pie. It isn't as dense as regular pumpkin pie. Yummy, esp with lots of whipped cream.

I enjoy it very much. I would never buy and cut up a real pumpkin. I use canned pumpkin pie. My brother once made a PP using canned evaporated milk and it was delicious! My closest grocery store sells pumpkins every October, but come November 1 they change the sign to read "Pumpkins for Pies". I know they are the same pumpkins they were selling before.

My grandmother made pumpkin chiffon pie, which was delicious. Wish I had her recipe. I do have a few of her hand-written recipes, but not that one.

We make the Bisquick Pumpkin Pie recipe. It's wonderful!!! Just look up the recipe on the internet. It doesn't have a crust, but it's thick enough without.

Of course I have to monitor my family and the Reddi-Wip container. They'd have equal amounts of pie and whipped cream if I let them.

A couple of years ago I tossed the seeds of a Kabocha squash out in a pile of compost and they grew and grew and grew.
I harvested them, roasted them and used the puree to make pumpkin pies.
My favorite recipe turned out to be pumpkin cheesecake pie using my favorite pie crust recipe. (The one using butter, lard, flour, sugar, salt, water and vodka.)
I bought another Kabocha squash this week and will save the seeds to plant a little later. I will roast the squash, also known as Japanese pumpkin, to use for a pie for Thanksgiving.

Sue, I do like pumpkin pie. I happen to have that Duncan Hines Dessert book and way back I remember having made that recipe a few times. Got away from it, probably because it involved more steps than I liked. I was never satisfied with my results when beating and folding in egg whites. These days I avoid recipes that require it

Gazania I don't whip and fold the egg whites any more either. I just add the whole egg to it. When I had my own hens with lots of eggs, I even put in more eggs.

Don't like sweetpotato pie, but love pumpkin and have made many over the past eons. Having used fresh pumpkin a few times, I can't see any difference in flavor from the canned stuff and it's so much easier.

Seeing as there is just me during the holidays, I don't make a homemade pie, but will buy one from Publix, who has great ones. I eat it for breakfast. Why not? Good stuff in them.

I love pumpkin pie. Used to make my own crust and pie using Libby's recipe, but now I buy Marie Callander frozen pie. Boy, is it ever good--and a tad pricey. But usually around the holidays they have them on sale at Publix.

I love pumpkin pie, and it is one of the few ways DH and DD will eat pumpkin. We don't have canned pumpkin here, so I cook and mash butternut squash for it, or occasionally Kent pumpkins which are sweet. My recipe has brown sugar and evaporated milk.

Colleen's Pumpkin Pie

1 cup evaporated milk
2 eggs
1 1/2 cups mashed cooked pumpkin
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/8 tsp nutmeg
1/8 tsp ginger
1/8 tsp cloves

Mix thoroughly (I put it all in the blender) and pour into prepared 8" raw pie shell. (I make mine from scratch.) Bake 15 mins at 425F, then 50 mins at 350F.
Using the blender makes it very smooth and creamy.

Colleen oz, your recipe is very similar to mine. I use evaporated milk in mine anymore and instead of the two eggs I use the flour. The recipe though calls for just milk. I imagine our pies taste just about alike. Mine looks good that I just took out of the oven. Pretty color with the added sweet potato mashed and replaced half of the pumpkin.

I sure do and I use the recipe on Libby's can. I make it a lot for myself and then I make it just as a pudding with no crust. However, I do put the pumpkin filling in a pie pan and try to fool myself into thinking it's pie !

Patti you cook it just like a pie...I do the knife test on mine and if it comes out clean it is done. Some make it more of a custard texture, more eggs I guess and in that case you would bake it as you would custard.

Love pumpkin pie!! I use Buttercup squash, it's the sweetest winter squash I've grown. At the moment I (DW) has this season's winter squash sitting around the house as decorations. lol
