We ate out so much when we both worked that eating in is a pleasure--even the cooking part. When we do eat out, which is maybe twice a month, it's usually for a late lunch after a doctor appointment. If we could find a place with reasonable prices and really good food that tasted like someone actually made it, we'd probably do it more often.

We eat out probably once a week at least, and often more than that but we have a little local place and eat there often ...The food is good, not fancy but home style meals. We belong to what they call the Gene team and we pay $20 per year for a discount every time we eat there. Like someone else said. we time it so that we have a late lunch/early dinner type meal. A meal there with our team discount usually runs a little less than $20. The important thing is that we enjoy it and it is a form of entertainment for us. We don't like to go to the movies and we don't do theme parks and all the things that a lot of people do so eating out is not an unreasonable habit for us.....

At least once a week. Usually it is Mexican or a family diner if we eat in town. There is a bigger selection of good chain restaurants in a nearby town so sometimes we go there.

DH & I, maybe 2 -3 times a month. Either lunch on a weekend if we're out running errands or whatever, or dinner with friends, also on a weekend. Under normal circumstances, we eat dinner in every night. I cook or he grills or we have leftovers.

I eat lunch out with work friends usually once a week. Otherwise I bring my lunch. DH probably eats out about once a week for lunch too.

As far as price, we stay within reasonable limits, $10 or less each for lunch, $20 or less each for dinner.

Many years ago, we used to eat dinner out 2-3 times a week. I sort of came to my senses one day and said this has to stop! One of the main problems was I'd get home from work and not feel like cooking. I came to the conclusion that when I didn't feel like cooking, it was because I just didn't know WHAT to cook. I solved this with advance planning. I now plan meals anywhere from five to ten days in advance. Made all the difference.

Dinner? Rarely.

Lunch? Less than once a month, and often that's when we meet DS and family 'half way' between their home and ours. Tomorrow we'll take them to Ted Montana's for lunch, then make a costco run on our way home.

Breakfast? You have to be kidding. Why would I get dressed, put on makeup and drive somewhere to order what is so easy to make 'just the way I like it' at home?

Carry-out or fast food? Virtually never. Only if starving while out shopping.

Once or twice a week. Usually a dinner type meal. For 2 of us with cocktails, the bill runs $80 or so.

Since DS is only 4, most of our dining out meals are courtesy of McDonald's, and that's not very often. DH and I get out for a grown-up meal every few months, when my mom can stay with DS.

Not as often as I'd like. Most of my friends are married, but even if I had friends to dine out with I wouldn't be able to afford it very often anyway. Occasionally friends will invite me out to dinner, usually to a BYOB ethnic restaurant.

I do a little better with lunch, meeting girlfriends here and there every so often. And I take my granddaughter to lunch when she's free. Oh, and my daughter took me to lunch just last week, but we can't manage that very often because our work hours and locations aren't compatible.

Every night and DH goes to a breakfast club every morning and a lunch group on Tues. plus I eat lunch w/ a group of volunteers at the hospital on Wed. That's our pay--free lunch. I don't cook, hate to cook, except I love big family dinners b/c there's always somebody who'll eat anything I put out there. DH is too picky and I gave up on him long ago. Lots of times we share and can eat for $10. Once last week we ate for $7. b/c they gave an AARP discount and we ordered off the senior menu. I always drink water, but he has to have his tea. Yep!! I can tell you about any eating joint in Tyler!

We go out 1-2 times a week for dinner. No limit, and usually at least $30, unless we go to a diner. (Living in NJ there are literally dozens to choose from, and often the cost of a diner dinner is cheaper than making it at home because it includes soup, salad, entree, and dessert).

A few times a year we go out for breakfast on a weekend (because we both work and leave the house early).

Rarely go out for lunch unless we are away on vacation.

Not much due to distance 45 minutes to town, then back and we do not drive at night much. Beside not many places we feel it is worth the drive. Do sometimes when in town, but for really good places it is Bismarck ND about 3 hours.
Local is just ok, but limited on quality and selection.
Do miss the west coast.

We went out to breakfast last Sunday..it's was $31..we both had prime rib steak, eggs and hash browns plus coffee and he added an apple juice.

Breafast usually is between $20 and $30 as does lunch and dinner will run $30-$40 and up depending on location or type of food.

Wow I am quite surprised by how often folks eat out. Guess we are part of a minority...we eat out very seldom, maybe 4-5 times a year.

i guess we eat out often, i never think about it thou. i work till 4pm right now, everday and DH is a fulltime grad student. during the week neither one of us eats breakfast out, i eat lunch 1-2X a week out, DH 1-2X for lunch and we eat 1-2X for dinner during the week plus a weekend evening out.

don't budget for it, we are always time pressed and by eating out it saves time. tonight we just had Pei Wei, yesterday i had panera for lunch w/ co-workers, DH eats at restaurants at Univ Central FL, last Sat we ate Giordano's because we were down by the orange co convention center. tomorrow we are going to the Maitland Art Festival and will eat at Buca de Beppo's probably. we really do it because it's easier and saves us alot of time ~ liz

Rarely. Usually only for family celebrations, (anniversaries, birthdays etc.) I am hard to please. It takes a really fabulous meal for me to think it's worth paying for. I'd rather buy the ingredients and cook at home and get it exactly the way I want it. People have raved about restaurants. We've tried them and I'm rarely impressed.
Now when we're away on vacation, yes we do eat out. But it's usually somewhere where we get to eat things we don't get at home, so that is a treat.

Maybe once a year or two. lol I have Celiac, and I just can't seem to trust anyone else to make a meal for me. When I do eat out, it's Swiss Chalet (in Canada), where they have gluten-free items on the menu that are prepared separately (so they tell me - ha).

I sure miss the luxury of eating out now and then.

We eat out a time or two a week. It's getting harder to find a good place; quite frankly, I don't think the words "chain" and "good food" go together. Applebee's, Fridays, Outback, etc. all taste like they came out of a box.

Only if we're in a foreign country, in an airport or have out of town company. :0)

But living alone, I just don't enjoy cooking for myself.

Now when I have family, I cook cook cook. Enjoy my cooking, but just not for just ME!

Not a fast food person. I know what local restaurants serve on a particular day.

I've had meat and veggies most days this week, so I had a sandwich, French Dip, today.

My meals average about $7 a day.

meant to add that we both love to cook, i especially enjoy it when i can take my time. as mentioned already for us it's a special meal when we do cook together, we usually try to on fridays and sundays. during the week thou we often have other things going on in the evening so we don't have time.

my dad has eaten 3 meals a day out for 17 yrs now. once my mom got cancer, they mostly went out to eat and then when she died, ten yrs ago, he had no clue in the kitchen. onetime right after her death, he called me because he could not figure out what went wrong w/ his fav soup, campbells clam chowder :-/ he used water and not milk :-( he also called me about some yellow gooo in the dishwasher LOL i was thinking along the lines of sealant or something technical but it was the soap LOL. the housekeeper partially loaded it and put soap in so he could add his coffee cups and run it. he has had the stove disconnected from the gas line for 10 yrs and bought a little wine fridge (got rid of the reg fridge) to hold the milk for his daily coffee. coffee is the only thing made at his house LOL. he only eats at non-chain restaurants, he has his set ones and they all treat him like a king LOL. shockingly he's not in the least bit overweight, infact he's a bit on the too skinny side and is 70 yrs old. he's looking for a new house to move to and amoug the requirements for the next house is that he needs to be able to walk to plenty of restaurants when he gets "old" lol ~ liz

All depends on the week, but a minimum of 2 times a week. This week we only ate dinner in once because I had things to do every night.

When we were both working, and had a small child we went out for dinner 2-3 times a week.

When I started working from home, about once a week.

Now that we're both retired (early for both of us, though he retired long before I did) we rarely go out. Mostly I do the cooking, but he operates as sous chef, trying to increase his skills. We enjoy this - and he has mastered the art of homemade soups!

We now usually go out for our "hot date" once a month - browsing at the book store, then lunch at the restaurant next door. They do a fab liver and onions - which I will neither eat nor cook!

Gosh, I must be even lazier than I thought. If I'm going to get dressed up and go out to eat, it better be something 'special'! It won't be cheap, and I'm OK with that, but it better be worth the effort and the money -- something creative. I can broil a lamb chop, cook hamburgers, make pasta dishes, etc. at home. I'm not a dessert eater, but darn it, I expect an interesting appetizer and entree and some decent wine to go with it. I also do not want to eat and run. Don't take me to a place where they expect to turn the table every 30 minutes. We'll ALL be unhappy.!
