Is your bedding matchy-matchy?

While doing laundry today I realized that some of our most comfortable sheets are from the second-hand charitable stores. They cost $3 each and aren't necessarily sets but they co-ordinate with each other.

A flat sheet in a print goes with a solid colour, fitted sheet for example.

The only "matchy-matchy" of my bedding are the flannel sheets when it's really cold. Otherwise, they are like yours!

Heavens NO! Got a tan fitted sheet, and light yellow top sheet, but the pillow case matches the fitted. This is this week. ;)

On top of that is a white embroidered HUGE table cloth, that looks really good as a summer bedspread to me...

When it gets cooler there will be a mixture of different blankets and quilts to suit my body warmth.

The only time I really like the way it looks in my bedroom is with the white covering that's on there now.

Wow! What a bunch of great ideas. I now realize that when I ask about lighting, I need to specify that DH is extremely light sensitive and would be uncomfortable with candelabra type bulbs without shades & he thinks that shades are too formal looking for the kitchen. (sigh) That PB glass lantern is a look I really love. I also apologize for not giving more of a sense of what style I'm aiming for. It looks like a typical "Somethings Gotta Give" kitchen except we are using Marinus granite instead of soapstone. If you put a gun to my head & told me to pick fabric for window treatments or banquette cushions, I would say "Blue & cream toile, please." palimpsest expressed it in a way that makes sense to me: go simple for the two island pendants, more elaborate over the banquette table (yes, it will be round) and match the finish for the fan. I know that ceiling fans aren't popular with many on the forum, but they are a blessing in the South. Our AC went out in Houston, yesterday and the family room fan made it bearable until it was repaired. The main reason to include a fan light is there are times that an overhead light is useful. With the beadboard double vault ceiling in the keeping room, we don't want any recessed lights pentrating the ceiling, so the fan would provide the only overhead light. There are things that I didn't put into the rendering like accessories or the front of the island being open shelving to display my colorful Staub French ovens. The door knobs for many of the public areas of the house will be glass, just for the sake of nostalgia and the exterior supports that look. After we got back from seeing the house for the 1st time, I think DH wants to do the banquette octagon ceiling and the keeping room double vault ceiling in stained cypress rather than painted white. I just have to make sure that doesn't look too rustic. Here's a pairing from Capital's Towne & Country collection: I also like these from Hinkley's Britannia collection: I have many more lighting website to look through, but I'm now convinced to tell the electrician to rough in for two pendants over the island. Sorry, I can't figure out how to get the pic right side up and it's hard to view! Can you post a pic showing the proximity of the barstools to the dining area? Seems like the white would go well with your kitchen and coordinate with the dining room, but maybe not enough contrast to with the kitchen cabinets, etc? Are there other upholstery choices? I especially like the RH ones, but can't really see in the upside down photo if there is anything that color wood relates to, but they do seem close in color to the backsplash and sofa? I wouldn't care for the modern ones in your home.

This thread is leading to unexpected places. We've noticed the relationship between our childhood experiences and our life style or homelife now. And, Flgargoyle is so right to note that you have to balance the elements of a very organized exacting profession with a home style that gives you some breathing room. In my case, working as a librarian for years and years, and being called upon for very proper and perfect language use, I would revert at home to using AIN'T etc. In my home, especially after I began work as a boat captain, I needed to have something alive around me. I began to indulge my passion for container plants. Never have liked fake plants. Over the years, I killed a lot of plants by leaving them outside during the months I was away at work on the oil field boats. These days, I have some favorite container plants that I drag with me, just like the parrots and the dogs, when I travel from Alabama to Massachusetts. I love to use live plants inside the house as part of my decorating. Better something alive around me than another piece of furniture. Right now, I am up north and the plants I could not bring with me for the stay, they are in good hands with a "babysitter." Ever since the show HOARDERS came on TV, I've been questioning myself about clutter. At what point does it become too much. My efforts to keep the house safe to walk around in, find stored items easily, and enjoy the things we have.....that is important to me. I'm not a neat freak. Things don't have to be high dollar, because I enjoy things which are rather primitive or old and abused. I like to have space around things so they will stand out. I also like to have enough storage that I can cycle accessories in and out of the rooms, and they will each have a time to star.

re ice maker. We have had this model twice. We had a 2008 model in a prior house that we did not buy. That one had the ice freezing problem. It wasn't a huge deal - we just thawed the ice every few weeks and start over. This one we have now is a 2014 mode that we plugged in about a year ago. No ice trouble. It is very quiet. The filtered water works great. No complaints. I found a bunch of the filters in a mark down section and bought them up. So far, they last us about 6 months each. Easy to replace. Don't throw away the plastic part that attaches to the filter. I did that the first time by mistake. I had to order another online.

I've gotton some GREAT deals on sheet sets lately, all new, from JCP. Vera Wang bath towels are my latest luxury purchase....over sized, plush, a beautiful grayish blue....

When we were newlyweds I made our waterbed sheets, with a seam down the middle of the sheets. :0)

I don't buy used bedding....ever! Never have...

My sheets are all white now, but I've mixed and matched prints with solids in the past -- still do that at the condo.

I need to replace the roman shades in our bedroom. (Fabric and cords are wearing due to sun damage.) I think I'll go with a solid this time so I can 'mess around' with colored spreads and sheets.

I have sheet sets that match with pillow cases but I wouldn't care if they didn't. My duvet cover matches my pillow shams which match my table cover which match my window valances. Not something I would have chosen for myself but the set was handmade and given to me as a gift so I appreciate it and use it. The fabric is based on a Monet painting, I am really thinking of getting rid of the valances because I would rather have curtains to close than the mini blinds that are on the windows now.

If I am using flannel sheets on my bed I don't use the flannel pillow cases. I need a cold pillow and the flannel pillow cases are hot

I love the way Ralph Lauren mixes bedding and do that often. Most of my sheets are vintage unused from eBay. This summer, I've been really lazy so I keep putting the same set of sheets back on the bed after laundering them. They have a wonderful feel that is perfect for warmer weather.

Nicole, I love Vera Wang towels! I bought some with a gift card after Christmas, and they are my favorites.

My sheets are sets. I usually buy them at TJ Maxx/Marshall's. I like soft, reasonably thick, and all cotton, with extra deep pockets. I went looking for a new set today, as a matter of fact, and came up empty-handed. The only one I liked was from Ralph Lauren, and it was more money than I wanted to spend.

What goes on top of the sheets is not a matched set, and I stopped bothering with pillow shams a long time ago.

My sheets are sets. I change out my duvet covers and shams, seasonally. Shams and throw pillows are a combination of match and coordinate. Gotta find a new Fall set, though. New pup ate a hole in the duvet cover. In a place where it is easily concealed? Of course not!

I usually keep the sheet sets together but I use a second pair of pillows on the beds and rather than use shams, I use bright white cases. I have a white set of sheets and a contrasting set for each bed, plus a fun set of flannels.....striped or dotted.

Yes my sheets are matched. Lots of colors. Winter they are flannel also matched. I do have some single sheets mostly top sheets. tops never to wear out.

All mine are matched, too. If I had a striped fitted sheet and a floral top sheet, I wouldn't be able to sleep!

I sometimes color co-ordinate them, but they aren't matching sets. I may have a couple of matching sets...but so far back in the linen closet that I never use them. A couple of years ago I bought a storage unit that belonged to an old woman who had kept stuff in storage for 15 years, but moved away and told me she wasn't going to pay on it any more. I had bought some nice antiques from her, so since I knew where her storage unit was located, when they had an auction, I bought it. I had offered to buy it from her but she wouldn't talk about selling. Anyway, I did get some very nice things out of it....and lots of the old sheets that I love that reminded me of the ones I got when I got married, back in the mid 60's, but they were yellowed from age and she was a smoker. So I put them aside and was going to throw them away, but I decided to bleach the hell out of them. I put them to soak with some Biz and some bleach...and then used fabric softener and they came out spotlessly beautiful and soft as can be. I love them. It doesn't matter to me that my sheets don't always match. I wouldn't buy a used mattress but it doesn't bother me to buy used sheets.

Oh, and the reason she wouldn't talk to me about selling that unit....I came across a big box full of letters she wrote to her boyfriend. XXX in content. ;)

I usually buy sets, but they don't always end up on the bed that way. I buy pretty much the same colors (usually light green and ivory) so they are coordinated even if they're not a set.

Yes, the sheets and pillowcases all match, light purple. The blanket (dark purple) coordinates and the thin comforter (aqua) matches the color of the bedroom (pale spruce) . On top of all thatare 2 small quilts that I put there for the cats to lie on, they are a mish-mash of purples, turquoises, and olive greens.

So yes, very matchy matchy. :)
