I like to play Literati on Yahoo, which is very similar to scrabble. I like to use the challenge mode, where any word is allowed and its up to your opponent to challenge if they don't think it's a word. If they're right, your word disappears and your turn is over. If they're wrong, you get another turn. I win a lot of games because of all of the weird plant words I know. LOL!

thanks everyone. This is not my idea, but one I saw in several places on the net. I've seen the boards from the games cut up for artists trading card collages. The size would be 2.5 x 3.5 for each card,you can look those up if you choose to sell them :) as far as a tutorial goes....all I can do is tell you how I did it: You'll need scrabble tiles decorative paper(magazine pics,book illustrations,try a photo!) I used rice paper and decorative papers sold for collages sandpaper glue paper scissors drill and very small drill bit a bail and/or jump rings ribbon or cord Diamond Glaze or clear spray sealer (I used clear nail polish and it works great so far) optional bead pins beads Drill a small hole where you wish to apply your bail or jump ring.Also drill a hole if you want to hang a bead on it.( I drilled through the bottom end) Sand the tile on one side. Cut out a small square of paper a bit larger than the tile. Apply glue to sanded side of tile and apply paper,press down to make sure all edges are glued down and flush. Trim the paper even with the edges. Wait til the glue is dry. Apply a few coats of clear nail polish (or spray with clear, or use Diamond Glaze) letting dry between coats. Fasten the bail on it, and hang from ribbon or cord (or chain) And there you have a piece of art to hang around your neck:) I hope that helped, these were really fun to make. Cherry

Good old crosswords - I love the USA Today puzzles. In my airline days, I came by them readily since hotels routinely give out this newspaper. Now I rarely see them. Of course, they are available on the internet, but I'm not in the habit of obtaining them in that manner. I can do the New York Times crossword until Thursday, when it becomes too difficult. My mother, who has been doing them for fifty years, does the Sunday crossword as easily as I would write out a shopping list. (For those not familiar, the NYT puzzle becomes increasingly difficult as the week progresses; the Sunday puzzle is much larger and notoriously challenging.)

Lyban, the kids I work with vary a lot in how much frustration tolerance they have and how much complexity they enjoy. Simple games like Candyland and Hi Ho Cherry-O are often popular, but because I cannot control how long they take to end, I don't often use them. My younger clients often enjoy matching/memory games like this one, which I use daily. For kids with short attention spans or low frustration tolerance, I use only half the pairs, to make it easier for them to succeed the first few times we play: I also use Jenga a lot with kids of all ages, if the child can tolerate the crashing sound when the tower falls; some kids cannot and that's what we work on but as a grandparent you're better off just playing for fun! "Spot It" is another of my most popular games, and they have a Junior version for younger kids: The regular game is a big hit with my clients all the way up to college age. Actually, that's true for almost all my games-- even surly teenagers love "little kid games".
