I found baby wipes at the dollar store - didn't buy them because they didn't have the alum. safety seal.

How could they possibly even stay fresh without being all sealed up? This one of my gripes about the wipes in the first place is that they don't last until I use them up. They are dry within a month. So how in the world can they package them unsealed? That's odd! Maybe you should just get some Viva towels and alcohol and make your own?

My guess is that if they figure the wipes kill 99.99% of germs that they are safe enough to not be sealed.

Is it much different than dish soap, or laundry soap in bottles not being sealed, along with so many other things we use.

In the past when wipes in a container dried up before I could get them all used up, I just added some alcohol to them.

If you have a pet and wipe his butt each time he poops the unseal ones are perfect.

My DD buys baby wipes, and they are sealed. If they dry out (for example when she leaves them here and possibly forgets to close the top) you can refresh them by slowly drizzling water through the opening and closing the lid. In the rush of the wrestling match to diaper a son who would much rather run around nude, she will often forget to close the lid.

I don't think Cynic meant anything against MADD, other than some dumb dumb people buy alcohol related product to sniff or drink. They do alot of good, but sometimes the best of organizations have some that go a bit overboard.

I buy the containers that are sealed in plastic. I think even the dollar store ones are like that.

I was at Walgreens today and noticed theirs has a plastic seal on the top, though outside, of the container. Probably better than nothing but I wouldn't think it would be as effective at keeping them from drying out.

Yes, I could make my own, and would if I used a lot of them, or for that matter I know I could just take a towel and the jug of peroxide or alcohol, but it's just a convenience thing for the short term. I just find it interesting that what *used* to have the foil or plastic seal, now doesn't. I can only attribute it to economizing. Rush to judgment wants to blame the "made in China", but I'm not sure they are.

As I said, cleaners & soaps, I'm not quite as concerned about. But how about something like sterile gauze or bandages? Would you compare dish soap to gauze if it were in a box, unwrapped and can be opened by anyone without people knowing? To me, they're different purposes, different things altogether. For that matter having had enough bottles with loose caps spill here and there, I wouldn't mind a seal on the bottles!

And actually Alisande, I have extremely limited respect for MADD. And about the same for companies that over-economize, especially to the extent that there could be a public safety issue. In the grand scheme of life, this is a small thing, but just like the shrinking dish soap bottle (since we're on that topic!), narrower toilet paper and paper towels, and probably fewer pepperonis on the pizza if one were to count, it's another example.

I'm waiting for the gas stations to come up with something like a "traveler gallon" that would be, say 100 oz. Then the gas price would seem like it's less, for a while. Then shrink it to 96 oz, 88 oz, 85...

Geez, go to the Dollar Store (or you probably have one) and get a cutsey spray bottle that you can keep on your counter. 1/2 c. vinegar, 1/2 c. ammonia, 3/4 c. rubbing alcohol, fill up a 2 qt. container with that and water. Fill your spray bottle. Use clean rags or microfibers to wipe with. That stuff will kill anything, even chicken blood juice stuff. (I don't think I'd wipe my dog's butt with it, butt.....)

I use this stuff for everything, bathrooms, windows, hands, counters. I'd be hard pressed to clean a window with a "canned" wiper.

Let me add one more thing. I have to laugh at the foam hand soap commercial. They have an automatic dispenser, probably dispensing 3 times the amount needed, that keeps you from touching the germ laden push-pump. Yet, their hand foam kills 99.9% of germs. So, sowhat if you push a germ laden pump? Your hands are probably already dirty, needing the hand foam and it's gonna get 99.9% of germs, no matter how you do it. Kinda like that best product in the world that will last for years but, "Ya wanna buy an extended warranty?"

cynic, while you're on the subject of narrower toilet tissue rolls and paper towel rolls and fewer pepperonis, how about ice cream. People think they're buying 1/2 gallon and it's really only a quart and a half now, and you're paying the same price! Boxes of crackers and cereal have gone down a couple of ounces....do these manufacturers think we are all stupid?!!

I have to chime in - there was actually a "shortage" of hand sanitizer and alcohol wipes in the medical world about a year ago. I know because they ran out at the hospital where I get my dialysis. They DID manage to get enough for my dialysis unit, but it was well publicized in the newspaper. I also know because my husband gets a daily injection of a medicine called "Copaxone" for his Multiple Sclerosis and the company that supplies his shots used to send a box of alcohol wipes with the packaged injections, but they stopped for a while,now resumed. I'm glad to see someone's biggest worry is that their cleansing wipes aren't well-packaged. When my kids were little, I made my own baby wipes out of ripped-up terry cloth, dipped in warm soapy water. I washed and re-used them for two babies in two years.

Sure is thoughtful of the food companies to assist in our dietary schedules! For 100% of people, whether they're trying to diet or not.
