I recently responded to Lucille's post re cheesecake ( now deleted) as if it were a serious culinary question. Duh. I've now watched the speech and googled Cheesecake factory decor. All is clear.

Still maybe not enough resolution. I think you'll need to go back and get a closeup of the leaves. I might venture a guess of Bucida buceras (Black olive), but hopefully someone from your region will nail it!

Layer Cake with taste & texture of Cheesecake

Linda C - combining the two cake mixes is a good idea I could experiment with. slowlane - I have been to a wedding before that staggered several different types of cakes & it looked pretty. Nancy - I agree with chase...That pound cake recipe looks delicious. I would love a bowl of various fresh berries with that. momj47 - when you said the other layers were chocolate royale...did you mean the other tiers? I have seen a tiered wedding cake that had one tier of one flavor, the next tier a different one..and so on. I will do some research of our local bakeries in Southern California (Orange County).

The fact that tomorrow is 4/20 and therefore my diet will likely go to pot (pun intended) coupled with the fact that I don't have kids tonight, I decided to go to the Saltcake Factory and try this one out for myself. Not bad at all! Not terribly inspired though. Chicken in a tomato cream sauce, dust it with some chipotle powder. Shouldn't be tough to replicate if not improve.

Here is a description of the two desserts we tried. The lemon creme cake was really good, too, but I have no idea where to start to copy that one. The chocolate cake seems more "do-able" if I can figure out the fudge. I get the remark, but I actually *like* the atmosphere at our local cheesecake factory with its warm woods and interesting light fixtures. And it is not covered with home depot gold appliqués.

No kidding. And I’d love to hear more about this ”premier [healthcare] system in the world” that we had but of course arcy is rarely good for more than a hit and run.

There was no reason for anyone to flag her post even if they rightfully disagreed with it. Grow up!

Foas, she removed it herself, no one flagged it. It just shows how stupid she is.

FOAS they both remove their own posts all the time - hit & run.

And OllieJane just happened to delete hers at the same time?

The posts that get removed with by far the most regularity are either right wing or Elmer’s. It’s not too hard to figure out that there are some self-appointed forum police and on what side of the aisle they sit. We ask people to use common sense when evidence is staring them in the face, the least we can do is return the favor.

Nobody seems to mind the Saddam Hussein part of the comment, though. That's what I find funny.

Now that I've been hearing about the CF recently, I would like to go again. Haven't been in years, and I've always had good meals. The decor is outlandish old-Vegas.

One does wonder tho - could it be the work of moderators, not members?

And I do wonder about disappearing posts - if others are flagging, how come we don't see objections from the allegedly flagged commenters?

And ugh - my one & only time @ that restaurant, I was staggered by the amount of salt and sugar in everything - yikes!

Elmer complains every time. Kevin acknowledges it every time. Arcy never comes back after her hit and runs anyway. Moderators don’t want these discussions at all so it makes zero sense that they’d be moderating onesidedly rather than delete entire threads. Nothing to wonder about except who is so fragile that they have to delete posts they don’t like.

And yes, I refer to the restaurant as the Saltcake Factory. It’s a shame, because they actually have a lot of very nice offerings but I find myself browsing the menu via the nutrition label.

Everything not good for you, but tasty. That makes it perfect for a treat every 5 years or so. Speaking of a treat every 5 years or so, now I want some Mary Browns potato wedges.

FOAS -There are plenty of card carrying DSA members on this site. Take your pick!

I've only been to CF once and wasn't very impressed compared to the hype. I have a freind whose wife loves CF and they'll drive 100 miles round trip to eat there several times a year.

I haven't been to a Cheesecake factory in decades. Maybe Boston. I must check on the closest one around here. We have the "cool" businesses like Traders, REI ,LLBean, J Crew so bring a Cheesecake here.

Hit and run protection for the part of the above post that was opinion although many disagree with this and most of her opinions:

I love what T said about the upkeep and condition of the WH he inherited from "Hussein" Ob@ma. He said “Guys like Ob@ma…wouldn’t notice because he doesn’t notice that. He doesn’t notice dirt and filth…he doesn’t see broken ornaments on a building." And T has made a point that the WH is a symbol of America and has to be pristine and clean and maintained...and has repeatedly said the building was dirty, filthy, and neglected...and the walls not cleaned for years. I appreciate that T cares and has that much pride in the condition of the WH!

OTOH...you also have a guy who built a billion dollar windowless granite TRASH CAN to himself that half the country has already been seen as the punchline! Actually, thank goodness Ob@ma didn't care about the WH...I can't imagine what he would have done to it! Ob@ma was apparently okay with trashy streets in DC also—while he just walked right past that mess. Crime was at an all time high before T (carjackings hit a record ~959 in 2023 and homicides spiked to levels not seen in decades)...T...even with the help of a Dem DC Mayor...is cleaning it up! I mean, how hard was that to do? Obama didn't even think to ask about the streets???

Oh, OJ. (sigh) You’re in a cult. There’s no truth to anything you claim in these discussions. You’re just a parrot for the leader who’s pulled the wool over your eyes. Someday your grandchildren and their children will read about you, and not in a good way.

Ollie Jane, if you are going to call people communists, it would be useful if you would define what you mean by that. What in your view makes someone a communist?

    <crickets>

There a quite a few unhinged far leftists/DSA/communists on here today. Cheesecake Factory got you all riled up!

Your efforts to malign others are pathetic. c

" And, yes...there are plenty on here! "

How could you possibly know? I don't know who on here is a conservative, fascist, liberal progressive, centrist, or communist.

And I'm pretty sure you couldn't define communism, anyway. Cults like to make up their own language and definitions that defy reality.

" Cheesecake Factory got you all riled up! "

LOL. Every accusation is a confession. People would just be laughing at the joke if the right sided media and influencers didn't go crazy over what he said.

Democratic Socialists of America. Basically, right-wing pundits like to use it as a fear tactic among their base to distract people like OJ from noticing her taxes are lining the pockets of leaders and their billionaire cronies.

    • Reed Abbitt Moore: "Insults are the last refuge of a fool".
    • Elbert Hubbard: "If you can't answer a man's arguments, all is not lost; you can still call him vile names".
    • Charles Simmons: "Ridicule is the first and last argument of a fool".

Haha...Annie I just had to look up some great insults !! Thank you for a great laugh . Here you go OJ....

    • Do you annoy people as a hobby, or is that just your personality?
    • I’d challenge you to a battle of wits, but I see you’re unarmed. (For my Shakespeare lovers.)
    • Pardon me, but you’ve obviously mistaken me for someone who gives a damn.
    • I see you’re playing stupid again—and you’re winning.
    • How do you manage to carry your enormous ego up the stairs?
    • Would you like a side of epic with that fail?
    • Let’s play a game: you go underwater and I’ll count to one million.
    • How about you slip into something more comfortable… like a coma?
    • You’re like Mondays—nobody likes you.

Still trailing why are you putting insults in my thread? Has it deteriorated to the point of no return?

I was just going to say it was ironic that he was able to insult both the cheesecake factory dude and the current decor, but the insults on this thread are making me wonder what's even going on?

I thought we were supposed to be two sides of the same coin in order to find equitable solutions in our democracy, not insult each other to death, which solves nothing.

I’ve never been to a Cheesecake Factory — just heard of their existence and think I might know where one is, or used to be. I had to search online to see the decore so I could appreciate Obama’s joke. Pretty funny.

Where can We get those gold (pyrite?) filigree doodads?

    Dry weather typos

I find the food there long on quantity and short on quality. It's not a place we go to.

@lucillle it was a joke!!!! After @Annie Deighnaugh highlighted how ugly @OllieJane was being .

They are hilarious joke insults not calling anyone a liar as one poster loves to do.

I am sorry you fail to see the humor. 🙏🤷

@petalique- iirc those gold painted doodads all over the Oval Office are from Home Depot or somewhere similar.

Still trailing, I got the humor because I know you, but also saw how it could be mis-taken. I was curious to see where it would go!

@Annie Deighnaugh I can tell you ” where it should go”! The current great leader’s fave part of the anatomy lol. Not to worry humor saves the day. Yes I love the Shakespeare insults!

This is such a funny thread. I didn't really "get" the cheesecake decor insult when our favorite president made it. I never had any desire to go to one (closest is an hour + away) because from what I'd heard...seemed like a high volume, low quality food place that built its appeal around kind of the outrageousness of the volume and variety - neither of which has any appeal to me.

Then I was in the area of the closest one with my teen grandson (he was accompanying me new car shopping) - we got stuck in a huge traffic jam and really needed to eat something...his job was to search on his phone for something and he realized we were close to Cheesecake Factory, which it turns out he loves. Ugh, I wasn't excited, but...grandson, lol. I could not tell you one single thing about the decor. I appreciated the volume of the space, because I hate eating in crowded restaurants, esp filled with kids (petri dish syndrome).

I can't remember what I ate, soup and salad maybe? But it was surprisingly good! Salty, not fine dining but it was very good. I was shocked. I wouldn't return on my own because there are some restaurants in that area that I would prefer, but he wouldn't have liked the menus. I still can't get over the crowds. All that, but I haven't a clue what the decor was like.

I've eaten at CF a few times. I do like the space around the booths. But be prepared for a lot of reading as their menu is HUGE!! Yes their portions are big and the calorie count outrageous, but no one says you have to eat it all. (I'm not sure the calorie count is any more outrageous than other restaurants...) I also only order off the skinnylicious menu which makes it far more reasonable. But I did take DH there for his Bday one year -- not to dine, but just to buy a slice of cheesecake as it's his fave. He brought home the slice and it lasted him 4 days.

Speaking of food, I wonder if the tariff situation with our northern neighbor would change if he learned that the majority of potatoes used in McD's fries come from there...
