close to an hour.

When the power goes out here...we have nothing.

there is just a small amount of water because the well pump runs on electricity.

I had lots of candles but you can't see very well.

Denny and I sat at the table and played cell phone games to entertain ourselves.

He finally gave up and said he was going to bed...

I said..."I can't go to bed...it's too dark...I gotta have my nightlight and my ceiling fan"

Boy...I would never have made it in "the for real Olden Days"

OK, I finally got it painted white!! I still need to fill in some of the holes & the ends, but for the most part, it's done & I love how it looks. It most likely won't be long before it starts rusting through too...LOL! I used at least a dozen $1 cans from Dollar General to paint this bad boy! I have to say that they only contain 9 oz. of paint compared to other brands & the spray nozzles will make a sore finger in short order. This was easy to put together, once we decided how far the top door would overhang the side ones, he just lined up the holes of the brackets to the door, pre-drilled & then screwed them in with the existing screws from the door. This was definitely a low budge operation! LOL! In case you can see, I switched out the larger metal flowers I had on the barn door fence for some maple leafs that are made out of twigs! I just HAD to have them & bought them at the local Blueberry Festival this past weekend. I mention them because someone on here might be motivated enough to try to make them. TFL!!

Yes we spent 3 hrs also in our basement then when the threat had passed we had a flood in the basement because the sump pump got stopped up from mulch uhhhh around a certain daylily bed. Water was at least 3 ft deep on the outside of the door and hubby was trying to unstop it with lighting all atound him. Hope I do not have to move that bed.

Thank you everyone for the well wishes. Yes, nothing really to complain about as no lasting damage in my garden. The tomatoes will taste wonderful and that is only the begining of tomato season. Lots more to come. The plants will be fine. I went and cut off any broken branches on them and they are already picking up. Jean and everyone. That was a very old historic structure in the park. There is already a newer bigger one that they use as the bandstand for the summer concerts but the old one is part of our history. Sad to see it crashed. I could always see the water from my front porch, better in winter with the leaves down than in the summer. But with the two trees dopwn that went down I am amazed at my new view. Clear down to the water straight thru the park with no obstructions. I just sat out on my porch and watched all the cleanup and goings on.

Stay safe. Unfortunately, these storms have a steep learning curve. We were in Little Rock in December 2000 in an all electric house. We had two ice storms come through that month. Our house was without power for eight days total. It was eery. Transformers were blowing everywhere around us. We weren't used to the darkness outside at night. My then 6 1/2 mo ds#1 and I both were sick with a cold. Ds's turned into RSV. After that first day when we realized how bad it was we went to my parent's house in a different part of Arkansas where they just had snow. The second storm hit at Christmas. We saw that one coming so we left before it hit. We were in Tulsa for last year's storm. We got really lucky and got our power back in less than 12 hours. THe next street over was out for four days. At least the ice melted away quick.

Years ago I went to the post, post Christmas season sales to buy fat candles for blackouts. Got several at 25 cents each and gave some to my kids too. I still use them when the electricity goes out.

Thanks for the reminders. I do have candles, but I use batt. lanterns and flashlights mostly. For me it's time to get a gallon of water(no power, no wellpump) and place the lights by tables and doors for easy reach when power does go out. Oh also make sure to have fresh bat's. for lights, radio , and dvd player.

Oh, ok. We don't have that so I never thought of that. I do have my kindle charged up so I can read and we do have a generator. Hopefully the hurricane will go more out to sea before it gets here. :o)

We were without lights, all together, for an hour last night, around 10. Thankfully they came on for about 5 minutes about 40 minutes into the total so our sumps could run a bit! Dean has a high powered flashlight, so I had that on the dining room table and cut out material! I had sent Dean to bed and told him I would get him up if we had to bail water from the sumps....thankfully we didn't need to!

I am sure glad that you are safe and sound...and HOW you were able to do that without someone telling you HOW to do it!!!!! Good grief! Like this is the first blackout you and Denny have ever been in! LOL
