You don't remember Vincent Price from the movies......the sinister look and the thin mustache? I'd scream, too, if you were dousing me with Listerine. I hope you're planning a respectable funeral for that poor thing. LOL

Could be a katydid? or green tree frog? or even a bat. Lots of interesting things when you google green bug that screams.
Wonder if there are babies?
I sure would lock my windows and doors. Don't want that thing in MY house.

Sounded (pun intended) as cicada to me. And they are all around Birmingham right now, screaming.

I'm on the side of the cicada. All you had to do was go inside and turn off the light and it would have left. No need to kill the poor thing.

I remember years ago one summer night at church the doors were left open and a cicada came in, sat on the back of a pew and out preached the preacher!

Katydids scream like banshees, I wonder if that was it, Glenda. The kittens have brought them to the patio and the little critter climbed the screen door letting us know how unhappy she was about being a toy. She was extremely loud and very vocal! I've had a tomato hornworm "scream" at me. But it's not green, it's got black and white stripes. And big "eyes" For what it's worth, you can kill spiders with hair spray. I've done it. If nothing else, they get all their legs tangled and you can easily squish them.

Vincent Price was an actor who did a lot of horror films in the last half of his career. In "The Fly" he plays a scientist, I believe, who in a lab accident is turned into a fly that can talk. In one scene, he approaches another character with the tiny voice crying, "Help me, help me!" the only thing that saved him from being swatted. He was in a lot of movies and was an art expert too. If you saw him or heard his great voice, I think you would remember him.

I went out and don't see it.

I haven't had one around my light fixture before.

But one thing I know it sure did scream.

It was just so frantic last night seemed like it was trying ever so hard to get to that lightbulb.

Katydids won't hurt you, I don't kill them, in fact I like having them around. Interesting about the tomato worm, ours are the same green color as the tomato vines.
