If it's way in the back, it may be a "wisdom" tooth. All four of mine have given me problems over the years. The first one, I was going to an oral surgeon for an extraction, I was pretty nervous and scared. DH offered no sympathy, he wouldn't even drive me. He was such a big brave guy, went he entered the Air Force ,they took out all four of his wisdom teeth at once and he spent a day in the hospital to recover. I scheduled a half-day of work, left at noon, drove straight to the oral surgeon from work, had it done (actually painless-I got several shots of Lidocaine), then drove myself home. I took two pain killers and fell asleep. When DH came home, I was pretty groggy and oozing blood. Hope you are feeling better.

Wanna bet that your DH wasn't quite as cavalier 30 years ago when it was his own tooth? LOL I never can get much sympathy from my DH either. This past winter, I had oral surgery only about 6 weeks after fracturing my pelvis in 4 places. DH took wonderful care of me and yet gave me not one word of sympathy. Men!! LOL

Well, here's a big sympathetic hug from me. ((((((((((((Rita)))))))))))))))) and if I got your name wrong, please feel free to be sympathetic to an aging woman with a defective memory.

I'll give you sympathy, Rita! You poor thang..... make sure you stock up on soft foods for a week or so and no straws or smoking or sucking on anything! (I could say something here about DH changing his tune, but I'll refrain, *snork*) And I'm glad your appt is soon, less time for you to worry or dwell on it. Get 'er done!

And Coral doesn't have to use age as her excuse, it's just a given that she's not poifect!

Like Coral said, DH probably was pretty tough back in his 20s. Well, heck, so was I!

Doc sent the x-rays with me to take to the surgeon, and it looks like the tooth root is kinda laid over. Ewwwwwwwwwwww. Several others look the same way, so this may be the first of several surgeries in the coming years. Don't they just PULL teeth any more?!

I was supposed to interview someone by phone tomorrow afternoon for an article, but I asked someone else step in and do it for me. Not having had this done before, I wasn't sure I'd be able to talk plainly.

Thank you ALL for those sweet hugs and those "Oh, poor baby" empathetic thoughts. I knew I could count on you!

That's what I was going to ask ((((((poor Rita))))). Don't they just pull teeth anymore? ack! Just the name "surgeon" is enough to have me running for the hills. I've seen enough of those in my lifetime. I hope NOT to see another.

All my best to you. You know you can come here and whine or cry if you need to. We'll certainly be sympathetic to your plight. You tell DH to quit acting like the manly man and give you a big 'ol hug. :)

**patting Rita's hand** Ohhhh, Poor Baby Girl! I will give you TONS of sympathy! You have definitely come to the right person. I had a TERRIBLE time when I had my wisdom teeth removed. Of course, DH was gone for 4 days on a job (oilfield) and I was by myself. Didn't have anyone to bring me soup or pudding.....I was miserable. Taking pain pills on an empty stomach didn't work very well so I got a dry socket from all the throwing up. Miserable I tell ya! (That was back in 1982)

Fast forward to just last month. I cracked the beautiful crown I had to have put on a few years ago (darn walnuts with a hidden shell in it) and my dentist was just going to put a new crown on it. But noooooo, the little piece of tooth underneath was cracked too. So he had to pull it out. Naturally it isn't going to be smooth sailing for me. I developed a terrible ache in my jaw and I had to go in 4 times to have the hole packed with the clove oil. Apparently I had a tiny piece of the bone exposed and it wasn't happy about it. Finally the gums healed up over that spot and the ache was gone but dang. I am not one of those people who will say "I had that tooth yanked out and went right back to work." Nope. My teeth don't like to leave and they put up a hissy fit! lol

Hope you sail through with minimal pain. It's probably good you won't be doing the phone interview. All that talking would probably just cause some swelling. Just rest and take it easy. I'd bring you some soup and pudding if you weren't so durn far away!

In reality I know that dental work can be no picnic. You have my sympathy and it should count for double coming from a guy, right?

My DH went to Dr. Kavorkian's School of Bedside Manner, so I would get no sympathy, either. Get some good pain pills and lay around doing nothing. It's going to be okay!

I'm feeling for you Rita. I hate the dentist/oral surgeons. So, git er done, and baby yourself. You deserve it.

Oh, yippee! More hugs and more sympathy pains!!! I'll have to tell DH he is fired...and that next time he needs sympathy, I'm gonna give him the same heaping dose he gave me.

I'll be sure to let you know how it turns out. Gee, I hope it is much better than Jen's experience. YIKES! That sounds dreadful! And it'll take me until morning to cipher how much Ron's is worth if it counts double. Reckon that's gonna require some of my hillbilly math. :-)

LOL My DH was the same way. So was his mother. I loved her dearly, but she was not someone you ran to for sympathy. I remember one time she was at our apartment for dinner, and I was in the kitchen, cooking. I was slicing vegetables when I cut myself. I yelped and said, "I just sliced my finger!" She called out, "Don't bleed into the food, dear."

You have my sympathy. I hate dental work of any kind. I've had wisdom teeth cut out, and I didn't enjoy it.

As for your DH, tell him that your KT friends have advised you that after this type of procedure, you will need at least 2 weeks to recuperate. That means no cooking, no cleaning, and certainly no laundry. To speed up the healing process, flowers and chocolate work wonders!

I can sympathize with you. Take care, dental work is no picnic. I have had plenty in my day. Kick your shoes off, take the wonderful pain meds, and take a nap. Good luck.
When I am looking for sympathy from my family I get the dictionary out and look after shoot and so what and that is where I get my sympathy.
