Barbara's battle is over

Dear Barbara passed away this afternoon at the hospital with her sons and sisters with her. Poor darling just couldn't make it any longer with the cancer so widespread, then her lungs filled with fluid overnight. I hope all of you know how very much I appreciate the thoughts and prayers. ((((My friends)))

Here's my 2cents on the topic. Poochella has me by 1 year on this growing, storing dahlia process. With 150 clumps to deal with , I have used every method in the books and at the end I have even said thats enough and blasted than with a hose , thrown them in a basket and said you are on your own, don't complain and be quite down there in the basement for the rest of the winter, Amen!!! From my experience , it is much easier to separate tubers in the fall than spring, first of all the tubers are at their juciest? lol and much easier to cut apart and store. If you do wait and I have, when spring comes and you are tilling and preparing soil and hemming and hawing about where to plant this and that, the last thing you want to do is divide dahlias. There's just to many other things to do and I found my dahlias get planted a little later than they should just out of time restrictions. This is fun to do as I have so many dahlias, I invited a few friends over promising them a wonderful Italian dinner, even made cannolis, and put them to work. We had a great time and finished the whole process off with a few botttles of Vino!!! Of course this is just my 2 cents worth! Happy storing, Willow

Soil: Salal grows on a variety of mineral and organic substrates including shallow rocky soils, sand dunes, coarse alluvium, glacial till, and peat [45,56]. The real expense will be the cost of the electrician's labor. Only way to know is to get someone in there and get a quote for the labor. I'd buy whatever hardware you need myself. Go to some electrical supply place to get the cans. A can over the sink will give you plenty of light. Generally, recessed lighting is put on a dimmer, or dimmers. You could put the entire ceiling recessed lighting on one circuit, or you could have two, one for the general area and a separate one for over the sink. That's strictly choice. I'd put three along each wall, with the corner cans acting as the third on each wall. Center one over the stove; 3 along the wall with the sink on it with one centered over the sink; 3 over the stretch where the table is, again with one centered over the table. If you go with a pendant light over the sink, you don't want one that hangs very low because you tend to lean in when washing dishes and you don't want it in the way. It is NOT a big deal for an electrician to hook up recessed lighting, esp. if you already have lighting on the ceiling, which you do (which means there is an electrical box already up there so they don't have to install one). If you have a relative who's an electrician, get him/her in there.
