I hate to ADD to this thread...but clarification is in order: -First of all, this thread would be perfect for the Hot Topics Forum...but "it dont fit" in Hot Peppers or Hydroponics. -"Troll" is not a comment on one's appearance/stature/etc: In Internet terminology, a troll is someone who intentionally posts derogatory or otherwise inflammatory messages about sensitive topics in an established online community such as an online discussion forum to bait users into responding (Wikipedia) -Posting the identical off-topic message to multiple groups is typical troll behavior. I realize however, that Willard's intent may have been merely to rant, not to 'troll'. -The ads are indeed annoying and frustrating; but I have yet to see one that is "offensive". -If the ads annoy you...I agree with John...email the specific advertiser or gardenweb... --Don

when I was first married to my husband I did not get along with my MIL she couldn't ever remember my name Mary how hard is that I wondered. she always wanted me to invite her to our home, I said its ok to just drop in, I didn't care I wanted her to feel welcome. Then my hubby had to be her care taker many years later and she seemed more friendly towards me. I wondered if she thought we would put her in an institution. No we didn't she was in a senior facility where we visited her every day. we went to every event they had with her and our son and his family did too. Our grand children knew their great grandmother. But I knew she thought she was stupid. Though she was not. We never said that word to her even though we had to repeat things over and over and over to her. I made sure that she had cards to send to her family on their birthdays or other events. I addressed her holiday cards when she said she could not,I made sure that we included photos of her so that they could see. Our daughter in law styled her hair every week. On occasion she would get a package or a card or letter. No one else in her family wanted to help her. Or come to see her. They always wanted to know what we were doing for her and making sure that WE were not stealing any of her money which wasn't much but went to her care. She had Alzheimers which is a horrible disease, as my mom had it too and you hate to see a loved one suffer through all the changes in their minds. My mom was a much different person than she had been. Mean comes to my mind. But still she was loved. We would laugh with her and sing oh how they loved to sing some of the old ballads. I learned so much from both of our mothers during this time. And my husband who is now my care giver. Strong women and husband. Keep venting if you have too we are all here to listen and help. Mary.

Thanks guys, things are getting better and the sun is shining again today. My DD did call last night about 10:45, woke me up, said there had been a hold up at gun point on campus, not far from the sorority house where she was at, and by not far I mean like 50 yards away. The campus does have security and an escort service to see you to your dorm or where ever. Since DD and others are there early for sorority stuff I'm not sure if security is at full staff right now. She called to let me know that she was fine and all involved are fine, because she knew I would see this on the news this morning and worry. Why let me get a good nights sleep and worry the next day when you can call and wake me up and let me sleep fitfully the rest of the night. This does worry me, but what can you do? I caution DD to be aware of her surroundings and to not walk anywhere alone after dark and if something like this should happen to her, to give them anything they want because nothing is worth your life.

umm.... interesting to see what kind of peeps will open a post that says it is offensive to most! lolol...
well, I guess I had better go check that post, but not for a while.. I need to get a move on and get some stuff done!

I must be getting tough, because I was not offended. I did however open this post one eye closed, just in case it was so offensive that I wouldn't be able to bear it.

As a delicate flower of Southern womanhood, I am easily offended, faint, fall over backward and expect Rhett to catch me. However, I enjoy the posts, offensive or not, so keep 'em comin' and I'll try to buck up.

I raised 4 sons and my husband was deployed half of the time with the USN. Not much can offend me anymore LOL!

Well, my husband was in the Air Force for 23 years and I raised 6 kids alone, four boys and two girls. So......I am with whideykathy. Vique.

I am with Kathy and Vique. After many years in the military and raising my kids alone while he was overseas not much offends me and if I don't like it I just SOB.

Kat, I think your bird pictures are offensive. Do you realize those creatures are naked?? And don't try to tell me they have feathers. Feathers are meaningless. The famous stripper Gypsy Rose Lee performed with a feather fan, don't forget.

Well, maybe you're too young to remember Gypsy. But I'm not. And I think of strippers every time I see one of your birds. Especially the mockingbirds. Well named, they are. Sniff!

Well, I was in the Air Force for 7 years and my dad was in the Navy for 30 and I'm still offended!

Oh, Toni, won't matter, people will still open your post (just for a quick look, mind you) to make sure it really is as offensive as you said it would be.

Yeah, the offensive stuff is getting pretty old. I replied to that post not because it offended me, but for the fact that I thought someone might have a problem I could maybe help with and found that it was just a silly joke. I don't mind jokes and can sob if necessary, but at that time, I was on very slow dial up and it was a pain to open it and then find that it was a joke that had been around since Iowa was a Prairie. "I" wasn't offended, but it wouldn't hurt to put "joke" on the subject line. But...this "might offend some" is getting a little old to me...just my humble opinion. I'm back on high speed now, so that sort of thing wouldn't be a problem for me..but, there are still some on dial up and it can be a pain
