HOT, hot, hot....

The following is going back and forth on the Oklahoma Gardening forum... it is hilarious!

Local weather guy showed the numbers this evening that showed the

overall average temp for all of Oklahoma in July was the hottest ever

recorded for any of the continental states during any month in

recorded history.

Everyone now........We're number 1!!! We're number 1!!! ...

Let's hope we don't break our own record again any time soon.

We saw that on CBS News tonight. The average for July was 89.1

degrees. That's not exactly a record you want to set, is it.

Scott, you heard it right. And if I heard it right, we held the

previous record, and broke our own record.

And I always thoughts Texas was known for it's hot air. Guess maybe

that is another kind. LOL.

Who wants to write the acceptance speech for this great honor?

Moni, I am sorry for you that it is so hot there. Our July here was just the pits and broke a record for a July average. I hate the heat. Now it is just perfect here. I sat outdoors yesterday evening and this morning I ate breakfast on my back deck. I know it will heat up again so I am making the most of it.

I really feel for you guys. We had four days above 100 and they were beyond misery. It was our second hottest July on record. We had no days below 90. We're having temps in the low 60's at night later this week and that's the first time since spring. A very horrid summer for everyone.

Some daylilies have that character and some don't. When the leaves are brown and crispy I pull them off. If they are yellow you may want to wait till they turn brown. I don't think it will hurt the plant though if you do decide to pull them off. As long as there are plenty of green ones left. Daylilies are pretty hardy.

it's always like a heat wave in orlando LOL but that's our normal :-) going to mid 90's today, humidity near 99% (as usual). last summer we set a heat record, 110 days straight at 90 or above then last winter set record cold with both lowest temps ever recorded and longest length of time at record cold. i was sure we were in for a record summer after a hot spring but it's been pretty normal thou a bit dry. norms right now are 94/77 for 2 more months then we trend down :-) the other evening i put a hygrometer from inside the house out on the lanai, it shot up to 99% humidity in a minute LOL brought it back inside after 15 minutes and it went down to 65% LOL that's dry for us :-) it had not even rained that day! ~ liz

10:30pm here and still 94*! Took DGS to the movies this afternoon and my car thermometer read 119* when we got out. It then cooled down to 107*. Triple digits are forecast for the next 5 days. We live in southwest corner of Utah, just 2hours from Las Vegas. Kids started school 2 weeks ago and school busses are not air conditioned, HOT! HOT! HOT!!

Bowl emptier could be a raccoon. For the first time in daylight, I saw one about noon yesterday. Large, walking along the perimeter wooden fence until the neighbor's yard. I figured he was going for a drink in her many ground bird baths... but she was busy scrubbing them out. About 3 pm he appeared at one of my table birdbath dishes, standing with his hind legs up on the tree trunk behind, and his paws on the table... I think he was familiar with this dish! (And then he spent a long time nearby digging in the leaves for uneaten birdseed thrown earlier.) I had suspected raccoons were pursuing water in my yard at night, from the overturned containers. Like you said, DG, we are in the midst of a SCORCHER! Thankfully the alligators don't need to hunt for water!
