1 root canal done, 1 or 2 to go...........

Geez I can't believe this. I already had 2 done in the past, had another on Wednesday, one scheduled in August and they tell me one of the others ones might have to be treated again. Seems the infection is there but I don't hurt yet, which is good, but how many of these things does a person get?.........Diane, nursing a sore jaw today.

By the way I go to the dentist every 6 months and have for years, so it's not a lack of dental hygiene........

I've had a couple of those myself......they're no fun!! And I know the feeling of really practicing good dental hygiene, but still having to have a lot of work done. AND it's so expensive!! Good luck. I just keep telling myself that it's better than losing my teeth.

If this is a short-term fix,I would not do the tile OR the glass - I would just leave it painted. I would add a stainless panel behind the stove and call it a day. Tiling the whole wall like that isn't necessary. Lots of folks have painted walls there. Save the money and time now, and use that when you do the whole shebang later. I think a roman shade would be great on the window. I would hang as an outside mount, and several inches above the window, to break up the strong horizontal line of the soffit. A print in black and white with some curves and movement in the pattern (and perhaps some of the green from the wall color - something close, doesn't have to be exact) would be great. Are you going to make it/have it made? A pendant light in black or brushed silver would be nice there- something with some curve, again to break up all the strong boxy lines and pick up on the curves of all the handles on the cabinets and appliances. This could be fun - I like how it picks up the lines of the microwave stainless. possini euro atmosphere I would paint the toe kicks the color of the cabinets - less choppy, and a taller feel for the base cabinets I would keep the rug small, in front of the sink if needed. The open light floor helps keep the room feeling brighter and larger. Did you consider adding some under-cabinet lighting? I think that would be a great addition if you could. Finally, I wondered how you liked the Rustoleum counter paint? I have looked at that for my kitchen. Any thoughts?

Hi - don't know if the question is still open or not, but here's my .02: We are in an area that sounds similar to yours. It's basically a commuter suburb with most everyone working in NYC. Extremely competitive, particularly with regard to schools. My older son is in a Montessori preschool that we had to apply to well over a year in advance. The private school he'll be starting in 2004 (he's spending his K year in Montessori), we needed to apply to in Jan. of this year. Because the Montessori doesn't start until the kids are 3 (they must be 3 by Dec. 31), I had my older son go to a 2's program at a local temple. It was 3 days a week, 3 hours a day. My younger son will start that same 2s program this fall, but I was definitely vascillating and will probably only send him 2 days instead of 3. It's a nice program, but like most 2's programs, is basically enriched day care. We could have done without it, but there were a few reasons that I liked it. He DID learn quite a bit, especially religious stuff, which is where I tend to be a bit lax. He got used to being around, and listening to adults other than me, it reinforced many things taught at home but not often practiced like sharing, turns, being kind to others, proper manners, etc. And most importantly - it gave me a 3 hour break three days a week. Besides my work, I was able to read, shop, visit with friends and work out entirely unencumbered by my kid. I found that after a few hours without him, not only did I miss him, but I really wanted to spend time talking to him about his day and what he learned. I think the time off made me a better mommy. Kat...I've been putting off having two root canal's done...I've had temp. crowns on these teeth for two years. I'm scared to have them done...and I'm afraid my pocket is a little empty too... I know I'm going to have to have them done but I just keep putting them off. patti

Update on kitchen remodel - about 1/2 done

It’s been a little over a year since we started the kitchen remodel and we still have a long ways to go. I just chose the flooring which is 3/4” Ash, 5” wide planks with 30% sheen. I have fir ceilings and this was the only floor that didn’t turn slightly green. I do need help with paint colors and a tile backsplash. Here’s the link to the old kitchen post https://www.houzz.com/discussions/need-help-w-kitchen-layout-review-dsvw-vd~4736649 I picked Swiss Coffee for the celings. It’s a white that seems to look good with lots of colors. I had a decorator choose Monterey white for the walls to replace the original Spanish white. It’s showing up as a pleasant pale yellow, probably due to the ceilings. She wanted me to paint out the trim in the same Monterey white. Or should I pick a different white for the Trim? The cabinets are Sherwin Williams Agreeable Gray. I also need to pick a tile backsplash. The counters are a marble quartz. Here are some pictures of the WIP.

Thanks gadgets. My mother ended up with dentures at an early age, she won't go in and have them adjusted, just takes them out as often as she can. I would rather have the work done and keep my teeth.

I've only had one, and that was quite an experience. Sorry you need so many, but as you say, it's worth it if you can keep those teeth.

I'm with you and Shirley - I go to the dentist regularly have terrific oral hygiene, but my mouth is full of fillings, root canals, crowns and implants. Neither of my parents had their teeth by age 30, and I believe it's largely hereditary.

Definitely worth it to keep your teeth, though.

When a tooth dies, a root canal can not be far behind. I've had several.

A tooth may die from several causes, one being infection. Diabetes is a factor. A trauma such as a blow to the tooth severe enough to loosen it may cause trouble several years later if that tooth dies. Its no fun, but a good root canal can be a saviour. I've got root canals that are 30 years old.

If the tooth was infected and a root canal performed, it is critical that the infection be eradiacted before the tooth receives it final, permanent plug. The ususal drill is to open the tooth, medicate it, stuff in a temporary plug, pull the plug and re-medicate it once a week for one or more sessions until the infection is gone, and then install the permanent plug.

If the permanent plug is placed before all the infection is eradiacted, the infection may continue necessitating a re-do of the entire process.

Thanks for the information. They did this last one in one appointment of about an hour and a half. I'm not going back for any remedication though so I'm not sure what to expect. They said to take ibuprofen for the swelling and keep a check on it.
