My rummage sale finds for the day (pics)

Went to the big rummage sale this morning and found some things I couldn't live without. :-)

This shelf is shown upside down. I'll paint it either black or white. It is pretty big.. about 30" wide. I have a thing for shelving. lol I paid $5 for it.

The lamp matches a floor one that I also bought. These were $4. each. I decided to also buy the matching larger table lamp, but when I went back to get it another shopper was picking it up. I'm kicking myself now!

I was really mesmerized by this framed signed photo ($5.), which looks like it was photoshopped.. but I found the artist's website and she says it is all done in the darkroom. Check out her site below to see some lovely surreal images.

I also got a couple like new tops, some pots and pans for DD and a cookbook called Hollyhocks and Radishes. I thought I'd give it to DD as well, but after reading the good reviews at Amazon I may have to try some of the recipes first.

I haven't been to a garage sale all year until this one. Now I'm revved up to go. lol

We never have anything that cheap that is in decent shape around here.
In fact gummage sales have been few and far between here. Last ones I went to were the city wides in May.

cool finds! I want to find some chairs
for the dining room table. And I need some
cool lamps. but all the ones I see are really
quite ugly! Paint and new shades wouldn't help!
LOL I like yours!

I also like the shelf. I actually like it upside down!
that is how I would put it up! lol

OMGosh, Jeanne, you really hit a jackpot....I think you just gave Candy a run for her Bargain Queen title. LOL. At least for one round. So MANY wonderful things that I hardly know where to start. But the big Santa in the first photo really is fabulous. I'd have gladly paid a LOT more for him. The little Elf reading the book is just darling, and perfect for you. But all the elves are cute and the little fairy girl too. I'm so glad Dollbaby now has her very own cloche. You'll have to find her some miniatures to put in it. I have to applaud your restraint, coming home with only two boxes. I shudder to think of the load I'd have bought, and no place to put any of it. The only restraint I have is to NOT GO shopping in the first place. LOL. You did good, Girl. And should be grinning all week over it. hugs, Karen

I have had experience with it. Generally team fundraising is going to go to the team. Be it you sell ads for the tournament book or you have a bake sale; you generally just can't divide it. If you want to have a garage sale with just some families from the team for money, then do that but don't call it a team fundraiser. The biggest problem is getting the families to agree to get on board. First, you do have to make sure the families want to participate and need the money. You can't assume everyone wants to do something or wants to do a rummage sale but if you get enough help, you should be able to run with it. (You will probably never get 100% participation). To start you need to set an event and date choices (but only give them 2 choices or everyone will be fighting) go with the choice that gets enough votes. Send out an email: Hi all, We are considering hosting a rummage sale to bring in money to help defray costs for the boy's hockey team. I have checked out locations and availible are April 15 or April 23rd. Please email me back by Monday to let me know which date will work best for you (we will go with the date that gets the most votes). Since the money is going to the team we hope to have 100% participation. I will send a signup email later with different shift and work opportunities to divide up the work and help make this sale a success. (When you get responses back, you should be able to tell if your event will be a go or not... you will either get most people emailing you back with a date preferance, or you will get emails saying..."what, the???....we can't do that. Why didn't we vote. We can't help at all, etc....") You should be able to tell from the responses if enough people will be willing to help or not. But you need to organize and lead them if they seem willing. Don't do all the work yourself. If not enough people sign up to help (on your work delegated sign-up sheets), then cancel the event early on. If workers get sick, etc it is up to them to find a replacement, not you. You need to organize and delegate, not do it all -- if others don't want to help, then don't do it.

that's hilarious... hey, remember my 'significant bother'?? well, it's been 4 weeks since I talked to him and he called night before last..he wants to 'talk'... heck, I had the ford all stuffed with pallets and a work table, all unassembled...just waiting for when I had enough energy to pull it all out..lol so, yesterday I felt obligated to clear it out..lol I used the pallets for laying on the ground to hold all the gallon pots that I repotted fuchsia starts in, so that was a good thing. Now I need to figure out what to do with that really heavy table...it would still be in the ford, if he hadn't called... I dunno.....is this really going to be a good choice to talk to him about the possiblility of reconciliation??? lol...seems like work to me. on the other hand...it leaves more room in the ford, for more scores at garage sales and thrift stores...hmmmm pros and cons....got a delemma here.lol Becky .(*_*).

I haven't been to a yard sale or rummage sale in a long time but even if I did I know I wouldn't find a good deal like you did or items like you found.

LOL I need to have my own rummage sale soon.

Wasn't a great yard saling day for me today. I look forward to it all week but you never know how it will go. Lots of sales today but not much of interest. I had the boys with me so that makes it harder too.

The boys got some toys and books, we got a couple of videos, one lame cookbook, some clothes for Nick in the fall and I got a top. I think that's it. Sounds like a good haul but it wasn't very satisfying. I do my retail therapy at yard sales and that just didn't cut it this week. I hope I can stay out of the stores the rest of the weekend.

Well, there's still the Goodwill store.

Cool finds, Lydia! I haven't been to very many sales this year. I went to a couple of yard sales yesterday...bought three or four old plates...which I really didn't need, but they were 50 cents for the batch. Also a fruit bowl, which makes about a dozen I have now...if not more. It was a dollar.

Today I went to a thrift shop and bought an old cookbook and a brass do dad that is a lady's hand. You can hang it up to hold a note or leave it laying to clip papers together. I have another one that is similar but no idea where.

I think the best thing lately was a Porceleir tea pot in mint condition from the thrift shop dumpster. I just have to look in there every once in awhile! ;)

Amber and I went out first thing this morning. I did great on books again. All are books I like to read, Beverly Lewis and others similar. He had the books, soft cover and hard, ten cents each or 12 for a dollar! I bought 3 dollars worth of them. I also picked up for a quarter each some divided plastic tray plates I have been looking for and also for a quarter a brand new box of Swiffer pads. Amber got a nice new insulated bag for fifty cents. Don't you just love it when you find some really great deals!

Went to 6 sales and bought nothing. I have some stuff listed on Craiglist including a playhouse. Hope it sells!
