Last year I went to a garage sale and got a brand-new in the package shower curtaion for 50 cents. I use it in my garden as a kneeling area.

The yard sales in this area never seem to be any good, either just a few items, or they want full price, so I do'nt bother. I wait for my mom's church sale. It is HUGE and they practically give away items (kids games 10-25 cents) trash bag of clothes for couple dollars etc. I always find great stuff there. My kids get bored in the summer and I can pull out something new once in a while!

My best bargain-A Dora the Explorer kitchen, practically brand new for $5. It retails at Toys R Us for $70 or $80!! Also a Bumbo seat for $1, they sell new for $40!! Except that my 2nd DD didn't like it much! Oh well, sold it for $7 at a kids sale the next year! lol

I rarely get to go to yard sales but today I did. With DD off to UNL basketball camp I decided to miss the her softball teams tourney. Instead I found an airbake cookie pan for 2 bucks. Went and scanned an auction of antique toys, mostly junk to me. Didn't wait for it to start because it would last for ever there was so much stuff. A storm rolled in so I had to run home to put the new horse in the barn. Wish I could take the time to go to more sales. Love a good deal.

I got several cookbooks today. Dan usually manages to find at least one Elmo toy. Today he scored a Hokey Pokey Elmo with the tag still on for 50 cents. I got him a pair of camo overalls too. Also got a Spongebob beach towel for $1. That was a real score too since Nick swims in camp 5 days/week now and I also need to keep a towel at Dan's school for summer water days. I hate paying retail for beach towels so I was looking out for them. I didn't find any water shoes for Dan though. He has a pair but he needs a pair to keep at school too. I passed them up at so many yard sales in the past thinking he already had a pair, not thinking he would need two pairs.

I don't go as often as I used to, as I have so darned much clutter now!. I usually buy books, and material, sheets, blankets, etc. that we can use for our quilting projects at church. I like to look, though, and usually come home with some goody......yesterday it was a covered 1 1/2 qt. pan that I can really use.

I used to go a couple times a week, but anymore I'm just not motivated. I still go to a twice yearly rummage sale that the Catholic church puts on... but I have so much stuff the way it is and am working on getting rid of the excess.

I went to an estate sale yesterday and got a new in the box Timex watch for $5. Also got a book and 3 UGA pins. DD and SIL are alumni so they can fight over them. Didn't see anything else I couldn't live without.

I have quite a few pieces of Lenox china cream with gold band items. Things like candy dishes, vases.

We were taking a walk this morning and stopped at a few garage sales.

I picked up an 8" bread basket of the Lenox.....for $3.

Getting harder to get around so I don't go to many. I did pick up some deals on clearance at Target though. I've been wanting to get an atomic clock for the living room and they had an atomic clock/radio with dual alarm on clearance so I got two. One will be a gift. And they had a bunch of spices on clearance so I picked up a bunch to replace my old stuff. Had coupons for a free Gillette ProGlide razor and a free bottle of Pantene shampoo. For the cost of tax, I'll try them out. Picked up a bunch of the reuseable bags last time I was at Kmart too for 20¢ ea. I've started using them a lot for various things around the house and I even use them at the stores.

The last sale I stopped at I just started looking at the pricing and didn't bother to go look at everything. If they had something I was interested in, it wouldn't have been at a price I'd pay. Too many people are trying to make their retirement fund from garage sales. It's not that they're trying to get rid of stuff. So I don't really go to many anymore.

I wasn't able to go to a neighboring city's citywide sale last week - too stiff and sore but would have liked to go to that one. They often have quite a few where people are just looking to clean out and you can get some real deals.

I haven't been yard saling very much this year. Since Ken, the old man I took care of, died, I have just hated leaving home any more than I have to. For so long, I had to go somewhere every day, so it is nice to just stay home. I did go to our city wide sale a few weeks ago. It is a tiny town, but always some good yard sales. BTW, one of the things I bought was a box of stuff...whole box was a dollar. It had two hummingbird windchimes, two hummingbird feeders, several chicken figurines, a package of fertilizer spikes for trees, and several other things...but the reason I bought it...I could see there was quite a bit of change in the box. I bought it for a dollar...got all that stuff...most of which I gave away...and there was 2.64 in change in the bottom of the box. :))

ARC stop....DH got a pair of Levis for $5, I got a mother of pearl inlaid music box for $1.50. I have a larger version of this same box I paid $20 for @ an auction 20 years ago!!!! Ya all should show pics of your finds...:0)

I walked to a couple of neighborhood garage sales this morning.

At the first I bought a still shrink-wrapped gift box of Knott's Berry Farm products, including 2 jars of their strawberry & blackberry preserves, a bottle of their boysenberry pancake syrup, and packages of both their buttermilk pancake mix & their buttermilk biscuit mix. It looked like it was a Christmas present to someone, as the gold ribbon was still on the box. That was one dollar.

My next little "haul" at a block sale was a cotton cableknit cardigan sweater in a kind of dusty navy blue with horn-type buttons. It was labeled "J.Crew: & looked like it had never been worn. So soft---I just love it. That also was a dollar. At the same place I bought a navy & cream lady's linen straw hat, made in Italy. That was two dollars. Goes nice with the sweater.

At the last place I only bought a giant home-made cupcake which my husband & I will share for Sunday breakfast. That too was a dollar.

Quite a successful walk-about.

We yard sale every weekend if we can, but the past couple of weeks we got rained out, so it was nice to have a full morning today to hit the sales.

I got two packages of Stampin Up stamps for $3 each (don't know their names, jsut that I like them). Also got a bath gift set from Victoria's Secret, of Amber Romance ... smells good! Three packs of Hallmark leaf-shaped pushpins for my bulletin board for a dime, and at another sale found a leaf-embellished doily for 50-cents to use in the fall. DH got a baggie full of different colored electrical tape for a quarter. Oh, and we got one of the LARGE doggie bed/pillows for $10. It was funny, little yorkie Bugs jumped right in the middle and wouldn't let the big dogs lay on it.

I don't go to Rummage Sales or Garage Sales, but I am a big Goodwill shopper. I like to go there on my weekends off. I like to spend a few hours there just going around the store a few times. I buy alot of clothes from there, since I'm plus size, there is only three racks for me to go thru. Today, I found a nice summer dress from Addition Elle, a couple pairs of jeans, a pair of shorts, three blouses, a pair of shoes (never worn) a summer purse, an Ann Rule book and some tupperware containers (never used). When I get home, I wash all the clothes, then try them on, if they don't fit, I just re-donate them, since the GW is all sales final, no returns or refunds.

I haven't been to any this year yet. A couple years ago I was buying tin cans. Got a bunch of them for $2. One is a round lunch pail with a handle, that I keep my coffee filters in. It's perfect for that.

I'd like to browse for more cookbooks. Of course Hubby says we have enough stuff, but we did some de-cluttering a couple weeks ago, and I Freecycled a bunch of stuff....so now we have room for more. ;-)

Liira, here the Goodwill stores give you a week to return things if you don't want them, as long as the tags are still attached. I like to shop there on Wednesday as you get a Senior discount of 30% off.

We love rummage sales. On Saturday, we bought a couple of kid size camp chairs. Grandkids love them sitting around the fire at camp. We also bought some tiki lamps to put around the camp. Hmm... .what else? I know there were other things, but can't remember what.

We've gotten some real finds in the past. Latest one I remember was a currier and ives whisky decanter with 5 shot glasses. There should be 6 shot glasses so one was missing. We collect currier and ives, and have seen this same set for sale in the range of $40 - $45. We got it for a DOLLAR!!! Did we ever walk out of that sale smiling!

Never go - I've reached the stage in life where I'd rather be getting rid of some stuff instead of accumulating more.
