Not Looking Forward to Needle Biopsy

Gah! Had a mammogram, then an ultrasound mammogram, then an expanded mammogram. Now have to have a needle biopsy July 31.

Deja vu all over again. I had this in 2007 in this breast. Needle specimen result was "atypia" (non-typical cells). Had surgical biopsy -- benign. The area in question now is next to the scar from that surgery.

I know there are three possibilities from the needle biopsy: Benign, Atypia (again), or Malignant.

Has anyone had Atypia -- once, or more than once? Always followed up with a surgical biopsy? (I've had three breast biopsies to date: One L (Atypia); two R (both benign).

I had a needle biopsy on my throat to check thyroid. What ever the Radiologist did was amazing. I felt NOTHING, had no bruising or pain. I may have to have it done again, and my only request is that the same Dr. do it. These were very very thin needles and probably did not go in very far. Good luck on yours.

I have had two needle biopsies. The second one following a diagnosis with a name I can't remember all of, but it did contain the words "atypia" and "in situ". This one was followed by a surgical biopsy. Results were benign. I'm thinking good thoughts that this will be your result too.

I'm excited about a lot of roses this Spring: I'm finally allowing myself to acquire Lady Hillingon...we'll see if there is enough heat for her here. Even if it's a failure, I'm going to try. Jenny Duval: I don't care if she has a terrible reputation for suckering- the color of the flowers is worth it, and maybe my clay soil will slow her down a little. I can't wait to see what my band of Gruss an Coburg does: it's putting out all kinds of new growth! In October, I rescued two beat up and abandoned 5-gallon pots of 'New Zealand'. The color and scent are lovely, and I think it's the kind of "Modern" hybrid tea that should make some people think twice about "no moderns" snobbery. I'm also VERY excited to see the Spring behavior of the 5-gallon plant of Zephirine Drouhin which I was given to me last summer. I've never grown her before, and I've read a lot of complaints about stingy re-bloom, but mine had flowers on it all through August, September and October. Basically, I'm just excited about all roses, all year long.

Joe, I remember you mentioned this rose not too long ago. It's the red/dark pink sport of La France, right? I hope you will post pictures of it when it blooms and put one on hmf - there aren't any there ...:( I hope it blooms its head off for you. La France does great for you, doesn't it? Thanks for posting. Gean Carla, if you can grow lilacs, I'm jealous. I love that smell. What kind do you grow? I don't know what a non typical lilac is. Our cherries are in full bloom; I love those clouds of white and pink. It's one of the things I most look forward to. You still have all that to look forward to! Happy spring, Carla! Thinking I might have found the bright side of the garlic grass that's invaded most of my gardens, I went googling for "plants that repel voles" and found a promising article on Elsevier (they publish research journal articles). The goal of the study was to find plants that kept voles out of orchards. The method was to see what deterred them from eating their favorite food, applesauce, when it was mixed with different concentrations of the various plants under consideration. I'm not positive that these results actually imply a repellent, but for what it's worth, here are the results: Pachysandra (Pachysandra terminalis Sieb. and Zucc.), boxwood (Buxus sempervirens L.), daffodil (Narcissus pseudonarcissus L.), and crownvetch (Coronilla varia L.) were the most effective. I can probably get a PDF of the full text from the WHOI library system if anyone wants to see it, but I'm hoping to find something more apropos (I really don't *want* pachysandra everywhere - or anywhere.) I haven't had this done, but I want to tell you, bug em! That's what they're there for and it is not for you to worry about it if they are busy. If she said she'd call you with the info and hasn't yet, go ahead and call again. If you want to give a reason for calling, you can tell her you're nervous about this (tho I'm sure it will be fine-- I too have had three breast biopsies that were fine,) as I think they do understand that these kinds of procedures make us nervous. Btw, could it have anything to do with that bad spill you took a couple of months ago? My memory is not always reliable, so I'm sorry if I've got the wrong person! Good luck, and again, don't be afraid to ask for and expect to receive information.

Just went through this a couple of weeks ago. They spent a good half hour scaring the CARP out of me (um ... 'explaining the procedure') and, aside from being uncomfortable laying on that goofy table, it was a piece of cake. Oh, and another half an hour after the procedure telling me what agony I was going to be in when the anesthetic wore off (oh, sorry, 'explaining what I may expect ...')

angelaid -- My first 'needle' in this area was called something like "steriotypical", where you lie on your front with your breast through a cut-out and they torture you! (NOT-lol) This is supposedly just sit or lie on my back...and they torture me. I hope your result was benign?

I have had two breast biopsies, same breast, same place. Diagnosis: benign, minimal atypia. Please look forward to your biopsy, it may save your life. Good luck.

I had calcifications in L. breast and had needle biopsy...face down on the table with the hole in it and my back just about killed me...and the time it took was longer than I can stand as I am very impatient. Other than that it wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be, but don't want to do it again if I can keep from it.

Prayers that it goes fast, easy and has excellent results proving good health for you.

Thanks to all for good wishes. I'm just so tired of being 'carved', and I don't do well with being confined. (I think that's some ingrained memory from abdominal surgery as an infant -- pre-anesthesia for infants.)

I've had two hip implants, a staghorn calculus surgery, three sinus surgeries, ovarian surgery (pre-arthroscopic), and all these darn breast biopsies.

I am definitely coming back as a guy.
