what plant are you most looking forward to
Comments (18)Brad - I hijacked all my daughter's columbine stems/seedpods back in May because she cut them off and was going to (gasp!) throw them out. Makes me wonder if we're related by blood! I brought them all home but have no idea what they look like because she has so many different ones--tall ones mostly, some double, blue definitely. If you're willing to be surprised, I've got like a bajillion seeds to send you. My rose campion foliage is still absolutely gorgeous, silver and velvety even after the terrible storm damage. I may check out 'Alba' next year. Is 'Bloody Mary' a red variety? That would be a stunning comination--silver stems/foliage with tomato red flowers. Wow. In between other chores I played with seeds today. Those dry enough to be brought indoors are now stored in plastic salad dressing cups with lids. The number of paper bowls with seeds in them on shelves inside the garage is dwindling. If I don't manage it before then, I'll haul a bale of growers mix inside the house Thanksgiving week. My 'Leap of Faith' seeds this year are going to be Lobelia cardinalis 'Fan Scarlet.' Jury is still out on whether or not it's fully hardy in my zone....See MoreWhich Hybridizer's Intros Do You Look Forward to Most?
Comments (19)Pat and Grace Stamile sold Floyd Cove and moved to CA but both are still hybridizing. However, part of their agreement in the sale was that they couldn't introduce anything for a period of years. They ARE finding it a challenge to hybridize on the Pac. coast - blooms don't open as well, etc. But I look for them to have some introductions over the next couple of years. What they are doing now is on a much more limited basis than the big operation they once ran, however. I too LOVE almost anything from Judy Davisson, Curt Hanson and Jamie Gossard, I also grow a lot of plants from Reg. 3 hybridizers because they were hybridized locally and do well here : Margo Reed, Jim Murphy, Pat Cochenour, Don Herr, all have great plants that perform like troopers in my garden and I never hesitate to add their plants. I do grow quite a few plants from Reg.2 hybridizers in recent years - have enjoyed some from Bret Clement,Sandy Holmes, Gerald Bushong and others. Lots of great hybridizers out there! I will say (and it has taken years of growing daylilies to learn this) that in recent years I have shied away from some of the Southern grown plants in favor of those which are grown in similar climates. Some of those beauties with the big edges for example, never look like that here, and I'm tired of the frustration of trying to grow a Southern belle that will never be happy here. Some Southern plants that generally do well here on the edge of zones 6/7 are the Ellers plants and Nan Wilkerson's....See MoreAnyone Else Been Watching Country Music Documentary on PBS?
Comments (73)The castigation can end over the wrong word choice. A quick word choice perhaps better replaced with something else. Let's call it an "annoying, unwanted nickname" that for whatever reason is disliked. Your name is Allison, you hate being called Ally, and your siblings do so when they want to annoy you. I think that's what's happened in this thread. I didn't make up the issue, it's there. I pointed out that it was odd for a local to use it. Those making a weak and childish effort to be annoying by insisting on finding multiple instances of use (that everyone knows about) are welcome to do so. It's not particularly clever but the word doesn't bother me. Call me Ally if you want. Like most people around here, I don't use "Frisco". If you want to, go ahead. What is annoying is people making an effort to be annoying....See MoreSomething to look forward to...
Comments (20)Bpath, not Chris Kimball - there is a much younger skinny guy (with glasses) on ATK that I do not like. I like Chris Kimball, more or less. The new guy is arrogant and condescending - two qualities that I do not like, but fortunately he is not on each episode. I've watched Chris Kimball's show because I like him, but he often has a young woman on his show with an annoying sing-song inflection, and this is annoying to listen to. I have to put on closed captions and turn the sound off to watch her. The Great British Baking Show was one of my favorites, but I wish they could have retained the original cast, as I especially liked all of them. Nicole, you will probably have to reprogram your channels in order to get the new Samsung TV channels. We did that with our three Samsung TVs and had to recreate our favorites lists, but it was worth it....See MoreDLM2000-GW
