Winter Moth
Comments (1)It is weird how winter moth (at least I think that's what it is- very tiny worms that eat flowers and smallest leaves only) prefer some varieties over others. They leave some apple varieties here alone and others they really do a number on. It seems when trees get mature enough they don't have much affect on the crop- so far. I'm about 45 miles above NYC and I've never noticed them damaging blueberries so far....See MoreHey, it's August 2013! How do things look in the garden?
Comments (44)Hah, yes the Stapelia stinks, LOL. From three feet you smell nothing, from 3 inches you smell rotten fried chicken, sweaty adolescent gym socks, and maybe a bit of cat poop, hah! The agave pics are just wonderful, GermanStar and DLG that barrel cactus is wonderful. The blooms are gorgeous! This has been one of the best monsoons ever for my little garden, with over 7 full, real inches of rain since June 1st (I have several rain gauges and compare with friends in the neighborhood too (N. Scottsdale)). Sorry others haven't had as much good, soaking rain. My 75 gallon rain barrel is absolutely full and it only catches rain from 20% of the roofline. Anyway, great fun pics everyone, keep them coming! Here's nothing fancy, but still pretty, a flower on my 'Golden' variety of pomegranate. I've gone overboard with pomegranates in this garden (thank you AZ Rare Fruit Grower's club, hah!) and really glad I have. My friends are calling my house Casa Granada now (pomegranate house in Spanish). I think I have seven different varieties now, oink oink oink. Happy gardening all! Comments (1)I have several doubles you might like: HHG, Desiree, Lovie, Daydreams & probably more after they start growing again. Can't send anything out of here for a couple weeks at least, it's 11 with the wind chill & snowing. If you're in a hurry, maybe someone in a warmer place can send something sooner, most of my plants are hibernating. Linda...See MoreWhat are you looking forward to this winter?
Comments (56)Altho not fond of winter here, I plan on doing all those little projects that never appear to be completed. We are planning on close to some heavy snow storms, accumulating close to 6 plus feet, through out the winter. I am hoping to find a fix for this crippling Rheumatoid, and to be able to tackle my snow shoes once again and have some shoeing time on a bright sunny day. The basement, especially "his" side needs a really good sorting out. My antique kitchen tool collection needs a good cleaning and sorting....might part with some of them, might just move them all around. Clothing in closets, rubbermaids and drawers, needs to be sorted, repaired, given away, whatever. My crafting project box needs a really good sorting out...what WILL be done, what will never be done, that sort of stuff. And, if I accomplish and or all of that, then I'll watch a new program or read something interesting!...See Moresushipup1
