Did you have trouble learning all that stuff

on your cell phone? I just got a new one and it's different from the old one. How did you learn to do all that? Trial and error? Reading the book (that's the last way I'll learn). Do you use all your options?

Oh yes. Most of it I still don't know. No, I don't use all the options. I probably use less than half of the options. It's annoying to have to take time with a new phone, isn't it?

I don't have a cell phone, but even my new regular phone has too many options. All I want to do is dial a number, or have it ring when someone calls me.

Like in the old days.

Stage Rat, thanks so much. I googled it and that is what it is. I will go right out and dig it up. I don't want those in my flower beds. I wish all my flowers looked that healthy though. I forgot to mention lesons learned about which containers worked best for me. My favorite is the round containers that I get cakes or cookies in (also an excuse to buy them). I make newspaper pots, and they are so much easier to plant out than to try and get the babies out of a milk bottle or 2L bottle. I think the newspaper helps the soil also. I tear off the top as I am dropping them in the hole so that they don't wick away the water. All of mine that were planted that way are doing the best. Also, I put a small water bottle in the center and use plastic shower caps (16 for $1) from the dollar store on top of them--it works great. The second favorite is the 1/2 size stem table aluminum pans from Sam's. The shower cap fits on them also with a small water botter to hold it off the babies. I think I will learn many more lessons from the responses to this thread. Thanks again for helping me ID the plant. Also thanks to everyone who shared their lessons learned. It is a great help. Jeane

Flower Lady, That's lovely. I've sometimes wondered if I love gardening because I'm new to South Florida gardening and for me everything is a brand new discovery or a challenge. And then I remember chats I had with my grandmother, who was born and raised in Florida, and was a farmer her whole life (strawberries, cattle, vegetables) and I'm not worried I'll ever get bored of it. She took so much joy in a rose blooming for the first time each season or a new lily that did well, or an old lily she could send me tubers of for my garden. I miss her terribly and know that she would agree that even though she knew more about gardening and farming than I or most people could ever hope to learn, it was often new and lovely for her, even at the end of her almost century-long life, and sharing it was the best of all. (And it still makes me sad that I don't have the lilies she sent me when I lived in another part of Florida where they would grow. They won't grow here. But I have a little rain lily that makes me think of her every time it blooms, and I'm going to put in gloriosas somewhere because she loved them, and they will grow in this sub-tropical clime and every time I see one blooming, I'll think of all she shared with me.) Thank you! I got all the dishes, glasses and pitcher as well as the flatware from Dansk when they had a little outlet store here. The dishes have a regular soup bowl as well as what they call a fruit or cereal bowl, which is a totally different shape. Then Lenox bought Dansk and closed the store. It was the greatest place. They sent coupons out often, and you could use them on your whole order. If someone got one for 50% off, they let you share. It was great! Wish we still had it, I would be posting pics everyday of what they had!!! Hi2all, I answered your question about my dining room carpet on the home dec forum under centerpieces. If you want, I will take a better pic of the carpet. Maybe when I get all my St. Pat's stuff out I'll put it on the carpet and take a pic, killing 2 birds with one stone!!! As for the napkins, they call it a crown, and it I would have starched and ironed them, they would have come out better. Next time! LOL

It's unfortunate that they decided that they decided to make it favor a touch screen environment. I do a lot of work on my desktop. I can just get more work done on it than the laptop. My last computer had a touch screen, and I almost never used the feature. It was just really inconvenient to switch between that and using the keyboard. I was helping someone last weekend try to do something on her new computer with Windows 8 and we were both frustrated trying to figure out where things were. We finally had to switch to the new Office at work. They had to bring consultants in for 2 days of training on the differences so that we could get back to actually doing work. I just don't understand the logic of taking a program that people know well enough to use in their sleep and changing it so dramatically that it almost brings their productive output to a halt. I just see that Microsoft made more money, and our company lost money. There's no great improvement to the software that translates into time savings or improved output on our side. I have other devices with touch screens and love them, but for cranking out data and text, it's not the way to go. Sorry, rant over.

Trial and error, Vannie. I don't use all the options on mine and it is one of the more simple ones.

I'm like Sue. I don't want or like all the "special features".

I just got a new cell phone too and have to figure out all the stuff.I don't like change!LOL I lost all my saved numbers and some I don't even have written down anywhere else.My old phone broke and just stopped working before I could retrieve everything.Guess I'll just have to wait for some of the people to call me.LOL Can't even find my sister's number.I have it written down,SOMEWHERE!LOL

The last time I got a new cell phone I was reading the manual and my son came in and told me not to read the book, to just play around with the phone. So that's what I did and I love the new phone. I don't use all the features, but do enjoy the ones I do use.

Who said we know about all the features??? LOL I only know how to turn mine on and off and to answer or make calls.I rarely use it,so never bothered to learn.

I can turn mine on and off, plus change the volume and the ringtone. Otherwise, I have to get a child to use the other options. :)

I hate reading manuals - I'm as bad as a man. :) If I buy a new gadget like a cell phone or camera, or if I'm putting furniture or something together, I'll fiddle around with it until I've got it all figured out.... It ends up making more sense to me that way.

Then when I've got most of it figured out, I'll check the instructions to see any "extras" I might have missed.

The company I work for just replaced my old phone with a new one yesterday, a Motorola RAZR plus they gave me a wireless Bluetooth device for hands-free talking.

The RAZR is much nicer than my old phone. It has a camera, Bluetooth capabilities and probably other things I will need to learn. I VOWED to myself that I would read the manual (in fact all manuals for anything I buy in the future) cover to cover. That should really improve my learning curve. :-)

How about everyone (who can)describe a cell phone 'trick', and give us the steps. I have a cell phone, but the only things I can do is charge it, answer it, call out on it, and retrieve my messages. Oh, and I can also delete or save my messages!!!

I ask the person that sells it to me to do a quick explanation.....then I wait until the kids can come and either fix what I have messed up and/or show me what to do! lol Mainly I just play with it until I get most of it figured out.

About the time I get my cell all figured out, it is time for a new one! "/

We went to a movie the other day and I didn't even know how to put it onto vibrate instead of ringer. It's a good thing Anna was with me. :)

Mine doesn't have too many bells and whistles. What I have to know, I read the book. The rest I just play around when I have time to fill, waiting, etc.

With any electronic device, when all else fails, ask a teenager! LOL
