I've been lurking on the KT for several years on and off. The KT and Home Decorating are my favorite forums. Ialso like the sewing and craft forums. I'm 70 yrs old(hard to believe where the years went!) and retired from working at the IRS and Northern Kentucky University near where we live. My husband is 75 and retired from 38 yrs in Public Transportstion management in Cincinnati OH. We live in Northern Kentucky near the Cincinnati Airport. We've been marrtied 52 years and have two children and two DGD. I love to read the wonderful recipes and have been chuckling over the comments on the Housewives of NJ. I was also a closet addict for the Housewives of NY. I would watch it over and over. I was born in East Orange NJ so the NJ gals sound like my Aunts and Uncles did. I love Marilyn Sues recipes and also just now copied Glenda's recipe for the baked beans to take to a Senior pot luck at church.

I also volunteer for a Domestic Violence agency twice a week. I have been a volunteer for over 20 years. My heart is really in the mission of this agency which serves 13 counties in the Northern KY area.

I'm looking forward to being a part of the group. Well off to bed now that I've fessed' up!

... but you already know what it's like!

I'm glad that you've decided to join the party rather than being content to just to sit in a different place and watch the proceedings at the party on cable TV, so to speak.

As Dad would say ... "You've lost the fear of the sound of your own voice". But, in the light of your participation in several agencies offering support to a number of people who've been finding it difficult to cope, that shows that such is not your regular approach to life.

Pull up a chair, have a coffee and tell us about yourself. You've learned earlier, I imagine, that reformed-lurker newcomers bring their favourite snack to share?

I'm sure that you'll find this a place that you'll enjoy more now, and, while it didn't stop you from learning some useful things while here, now you'll be able to offer some worthwhile ideas and suggestions to other particpants, as well.

I hope that you have a long and happy experience here.

Welcome to the KT kgal. I'm now off to bed myself. DD came and picked up DGS so I don't have to take him home tomorrow before I head for the cabin. Happy 4th of July and once again, welcome to the table.

Note to self: Copycat the leaf idea! Thanks for sharing. I'm also seeing the chair thing more vividly now, and, wow -- so that's what my sweet potato would look like now, if I would have stopped cutting it back whenever it dragged along the ground! Viva la "copycatting!" LOL And, luna, no excuses -- ever hear the terms "dish garden," "houseplants," or "hanging basket?" (And, thankfully, in this forum all those words can be taken literally. LOL) I get snow each winter, so if I only could have plants for the summer, well, I'd go nuttier! I also have seriously bad lighting issues, and can't afford a gro-light or any of that fancy indoor gardening stands. I'm starting to read "Houseplants for Dummies," since I'm just managing past brown thumb phase of gardening. One thing I've learned so far -- there is a houseplant for every soul! Sounds like you already have the imagination -- bring it inside into your apartment. Who knows?! By the time you get your house, you might already have a seven foot fig tree to put in your yard! LOL

I've been divorced twice; it's not easy on either side. Mr Pesky just lost his mother; Pesky is still trying to heal from a fall. The last thing she needs IMO is for things to get nasty right now. I also only know the story from here; while I don't recall good posts; many of us come to post when we're frustrated & need to vent. There has to be something there for their marriage to have lasted this long. She has a lot to lose if he wants everything divided. Easiest to keep the peace right now & move at her own pace. If they stay together; then that's what's meant to happen. I didn't have time to reply the other day; I was going to suggest he move out; work on himself & focus on a trial separation with him not living there. If he's normally "good" for 3 months; then you give it double or triple that before even considering him moving back. He has to know what it feels like living alone so that he has a taste of what it's like to lose her & their life; or he'll realize once & for all that he needed the kick in the ass to move on & grow up. I've been through a messy divorce; it's very costly. I know I spent close to $10k if not more. My 2nd ex spent over $50k accusing me of whatever that got him no-where. I kept giving ex #1 more chances. He was good for a month or so; then back at it. 26 years later he's still with the b*tch that he cheated on me with when I had my son. ~Hugs Pesky. I don't think you guys are getting the problem here. Matching isn't the issue! As much as I've ranted over it. I've found 10 colors that I absolutely love and are perfect. Until .... I get them home in the natural light. THEN, they turn turquoise, teal, or any way a green can blue. It's the light. I can't take that to any store I know of and have them match it. I've taken 10 paint chips to the store which they've made perfectly. Bring it home? Blueish in some lights. Ick. As far as the sheen, I like it in this instance. It's woodwork and the dining room can be somewhat darkened because of the porch outside. I understand the issues with a glossier paint. For being pissed? I was annoyed that yet again I was finding I was given the lip service "no" without someone actually taking the initiative to figure out the possibilities. So many can't think on their own. "No" is a good answer when "no" is the only answer. Even then, there are options. When my paint man actually looked up the formula, the high gloss was a base option. It wasn't a question of an inferior product. I am very open to information as to the whys of something. Automatic nay-sayers piss me off. I lived with one, who addressed every idea with, "The problem with that is...." rather than, "hmmm.. let's see what we can do." I choose to face all this crap I deal with optimistically, believe it or not. Or I'd probably kill myself. Or them. Even my Multi-Purpose Man has quit saying no. He asks, "Tell me how you see it?" BTW. So far, in the lights of two days, the color remains.... [drum roll] PERFECT!!! Thank you. [bowing left and right]

I am curious as to how much fabric you needed for the cushions? I always have this fear that when I love a fabric that by the time I get around to ordering it it will be out of stock. I am very tempted to guesstimate how much I would need and order while the going is good! Looking forward to seeing the final result :)

Welcome, Gale. I was married in Cincinnati where my DH had recently moved for an on air job at WLW radio. We honeymooned in Berea and Lexington for our two day honeymoon. However, before I could join him there, he accepted a job in Washington, DC. Now we are on the West Coast and retired, of sorts. I have 3 adult children and 1 grandson with another on the way.

Glad you joined us Kgal! I went to bed too early last night to welcome you then! Izzi and I are up and hope to go to some rummage sales this morning. We love doing that! I live in Panama City Florida....it's really hot and humid right now..LOL I enjoy all the recipes too. I lurked for a long time and finally sat down to visit. This is a wonderful support group!!!

Thank you so much. I feel a part of the group already. I started on the snacks but got sidetracked doing some postings. I'll get back to it tommorow(or maybe Sunday after church). Welcome to the KT Gale. I'm from Michigan, outside the Flint area and have lived here almost all my life. I am 65 and my hubby is 61. I have 3 children, 10 grandchildren, including 2 sets of identical twin girls. They are sisters and are 21 years apart. They also have a 15 year old sister. Hope to hear from you quite a bit. Seems like most people on here have pets, do you? I have 2 dogs and a cat. I would love to have a chihuahua, but hubby says "absolutely NOT!" My philosohy is "never say never".
