Hi Everyone...

Sorry I haven't been taking part in all the fun.

I have been 'lurking' every now and then... it keeps me going, to see what you all have been up to.

I'm sorry that I never explained my 'dropping out' for a while. My daughter is having some health issues...she did so last year, and was being monitored every 6 months..it seems there's been some added developments..and we've been

all feeling very stressed. We're keeping as positive as possible. We're taking it one day at a time, and are trying to keep things going normally..for my Gkids.

looking forward to being back..

Good to hear from you, Jane...and good thoughts & prayers coming to your daughter & family & you, too. "One day at a time" is easier said than done...but a very important aspect of living ...especially while facing challenging situations. Welcome back & always good to read your postings. Jeanne S.

I always feel like I am waking up in the spring too (and I didn't even realize I was asleep!). It's envigorating to see new things peeking out each day. I know we'll still have some cold days ahead of us but I can't wait to see what comes up each day. And what made it through the winter and (sadly) what didn't. I still stay on GW a bit in the winter hoping for a taste and google plants when I have time to make plans for the next year. I keep meaning to do more wintersowing and garden work, but somehow I never get to much. -Ais.

Hi Momma, Today makes 6 months since we last touched each others skin, looked into each others eyes and said "I love you" or smelled the essence of each other. I really cannot say I am much better off now than then but the raw pain is not as acute as it was. I miss you Momma...the words just never seem to be enough to describe the intense longing I feel to see you again. When I close my eyes I can still see you as I have always seen you. I find myself closing my eyes to be with you alot. You were one of the brightest lights of my life and without you the world has been a much darker place. I love you......I will always love you. Jin, Jackie, Stephanie, Lisa, Sheila, Perma, thanks for your responses. California does sound like it's fighting a battle against fire. Jackie, our local council passed the worst tree ordinance in the history of mankind, basically requiring a significant portion of the wood cover of the area to be cut down, at owners' expense. Fortunately they got voted out of office, sheerly by accident (this is Italy), and the new center-left council recognizes that trees actually have their positive side and repealed the ordinance. Also they planted trees around the middle school after the previous council had the ones there all cut down. I wasn't familiar with recall, but thank goodness you have it. Also thank goodness your wonderful garden, inspiring to us all, isn't going to fall entirely victim to the (legitimate) demands of fire safety. Congratulations on your incredibly energetic and hard-working helper! We all need one or two of them in our lives. Jin, planting's not over. I think we might complete basic planting in five years of so, and since DH will be nearly ninety then, whether we'll finish is very much open to doubt. We do what we can. Stephanie, agree with your ideas about the importance of structure. Also, trees and large shrubs produce a wider range of conditions in which plants can grow the when there's just meadow: think cyclamen, hellebores, epimediums, forest floor bulbs; all plants for which I struggle to find places to grow. Trees have an ecologically stabilizing effect, I think, helping keep weeds under control. Unfortunately they grow very slowly here, at least, ours always have. Even once we get all the trees we want planted, it's going to take a couple of decades for even the faster-growing species to reach a decent size. Our clay soil is fertile enough once amended with organic matter, but the amendment is a gigantic task. We've put over a hundred tons of old hay into the garden, and it could absorb another hundred tons without the least difficulty. It's an illustration at least of how effectively soil can sequester carbon when properly managed. Congratulations on your rain, Lisa and you other Californians! Rain has gotten more capricious here in late years. We had a wet spring and early summer, then dry late summer and early fall. In November it finally began to rain, and rain, and rain, and now the watercourses, ponds, and aquifers are brimming. I hope you'll be able to say the same soon. Part of what I'm interested in in my gardening is capturing that rainfall instead of letting it run off. And preventing topsoil loss. The year 2017 lives in my memory, and not in a good way. My guess is more years like that are going to come. We're doing our best to get our garden and land, and us, in the best shape possible to resist prolonged drought. Shade! we need shade! Good to "see" you. So sorry to hear you're having some stressful times.
Praying for your daughter and comfort to the nerves for the rest of you dealing with these issues.
Though keeping normal for the kids can be so hard, it's for the best I'm sure.

Thanks everyone for all your prayers and caring words.
It does help when I 'visit' here to escape for a little while.
It's so nice to see all your lovely tables and holiday
decorations..please forgive me if I haven't commented on them...but I do love them all.
I'm going to have my GKids here for a few days and for Easter...so I'm getting a little excited to do some decorating for them. It will be something nice to look forward to.,

I just saw your message. I have been having computer trouble (trivial) so have not been on very much.

I am sad to hear about your daughter and what you and she are going through. I trust that all will turn out well and I'll add you and your family to my prayers. I'm sure you're a great source of strength to everyone--I can tell. Be careful to not overstress--I'm sure having the grandkids will be helpful to you and their parents.
