Definitely NOT FAIR.

I know how you feel. We are not supposed to "covet" and be jealous, but it sure does seem like those of us who do things the "right" way are often left behind. Oh, well. At least you can sleep with a clear conscience.

I know some people like that. I know the filed an insurance claim to replace their roof. Then they bought a new house, rent out the other without ever having replaced the roof. I kinda want to call someone about that. It was hard to feel sorry for them when their renters moved out, left no forwarding address, owing them 3 months rent. Karma.

I tell myself his life is so much more stressful than mine b/c of the games he plays. I would not make those choices no matter what it gained me, the price is to high. I mean, my kids are watching.

Doesn't sound fair to me. I've always been in the pay your bills first camp and pay off those credit card charges monthly.

Makes me angry!! But, that is exactly why we

Why do smart people make dumb decisions? When things like this happen, we all suffer and it causes prices to go up, interest rates go up etc. I would be quite angry but with the new bankrupsty laws and they may not come out as good as they think they will. Wonder how why the house is not included? I don't think they can just do the CC.

I saw a show on TV once, it told all the things you could do before you declared bankruptcy. Get lots of credit cards, max them out by traveling around the world, spend money like crazy, you'll never have to pay it back. They had a guy on the show that had done that.

That's part of the reason this country is in the mess it's in - because of people like that. Makes me very angry.

She might be surprised to find that she will not be allowed to walk away from that debt with the impunity that was once available to those who declare bankruptcy.

Guess that's why England had a "Debtor's Prison." Dont'cha wish we still had one?

You should feel sorry for them. They may have a nice house but they obviously can't manage money. It's a Life Skill not everyone has.

Cheri, now you know why her house is so pretty. We would all have a fabulous looking house if we could get it free. We have a family like that here. They filed for $250,000 of debt with $182,000 in assets. Someone with that much in asset should not be able to file and wipe out debt the carelesly made. They built a huge new house, furnished it in the finest of things. Ripped out the carpet and had new wood flooring put down after only 2 years. Then filed.. Who do you think paided for that new hardwood. Oh, and they had 2 big expensive weddings, too. Guess we paid for them, too. They filed in her name only. The sad thing is he inherited a bundle from his parents about the same time. He sure wasn't going to use his money to pay the debt.. Then the stupid guy stood up in church a few months later and thanked the Lord for a wonderful year that they had had.. She just looked at the floor. You could sure tell she could have killed him at that moment. In my book she deserved to be embarrassed.. People like this make me so angry.. It is like they know just how to work the system.. Honest hard working people like us work hard to stay out of debt. I have not bought many things because I didn't feel I had the money at the time.

The same guy fell at a race track and boy he went after them for all the money he could get. The "HELL" with the fact that he cheated many people out of what he owed them.. It is a different story when the shoe is on the other foot...

I am not judging them but no it is not fair....but until the laws change there is nothing we can do...Stacy

The house will be safe only if they continue to pay the payments and on time. Same with any vehicles that have outstanding debt on them.

Speaking of not fair, according to commercials I've seen and heard, people who get way behind on their taxes, to the point where they owe thousands of dollars to the IRS, can make a deal whereby they pay less.

Wow, that would make me mad! I never put anything on my credit card that I can't pay in full when the bill rolls in and I've had only one credit card my whole married life!

I do have a nice house, but that's because I've lived within my means and don't pay unnecessary interest. I'd hate it if people looked at my house and thought I got all of it off of credit when in reality I am about two years away from paying off my mortgage and I've been here 15 years. Seems like the responsible people have to pay for other peoples debt because the cost is funneled to us through other avenues.

As for your friend, she'll get hers in the end. Because you don't just become responsible after declaring bankruptcy. It will haunt her and she's gonna need credit sometime for something in the next seven years and it doesn't seem like she had the skills to save for an emergency (car repairs, broken appliances, dental work, etc.)

What I wrote about was fraud, they may just be bad money managers and if you sent them to prison 3/4s of this country would be in prison. We don't want to regress to debtor's prison. They were often just a way to get rid of the poor.
