OK to NOT put above-the-cooktop microwave over the cooktop?
Comments (7)I just asked an appliance guy about the same thing. He said they can actually go anywhere, even on a counter if you add bumper feet for raising to allow some air space under it. Also it needs a dedicated circuit available. The OTR is driving me nuts. Always seems to be someone cooking when I want to get in there. And watching all the steam or oil rising up on it means constant wiping down. Do you like your Advantium? I ended up buying a small counter MW because I lost the MW use when cooking. With the above I am a bit leary of countertop, plus the sides are far uglier than what you are seeing. Am still considering under a top cupboard in another area, but having the OTR far lower than currently installed. The sides and bottom can be seen, either cupboards are needed on the sides or panels. You need circulating air for auto filter as the micro deems fit. Placing other appliances under may take away from your visual and still allow air circulation. Not sure about the trim taking this away and if wood is a good option. There are trim kits for built-ins, cannot say if they would work for OTRs. Am also thinking of the possiblity of under counter or a built-in, but the dedicated circuit is not available to do this just anywhere. Regardless of price, a built in is almost worth it. Although looking at them, they do not have the interior space available as do the OTRs. Probably not much help here....See MoreWhat to do with backsplash above cooktop, and behind serving area
Comments (2)If you want to change up the area behind you cooktop perhaps you could do a herring bone pattern with your subways tile and outline it with the pencil edge. GWer mamadadapaige did that in her kitcehn and it looks very nice. Not sure if I am allowed to post someone elses picture but here is her backsplash...See MoreWhat's hanging above your head in bed?
Comments (33)Pharaoh ya wimp :oP Here in Alaska in real earth quake country (verses those silly little shake up ya'll whine about) we hang glass and metal above our head and DARE it to come down on us! (and right in front of that dangly light fixture we have the main support beam that holds up the ceiling LOL and the light is hung extra well to ensure it does not jiggle down during a quake heh heh) This is how the bed looks up against it:' I don't really have a behind the bed wall but do have small art items on the wall that the bed side tables butt up to. But really normally...there is a child on that counter or a dog or a cat...they all love it: My bed backs up to a cabinet we use for storage so really all I have is a pretty counter top and a view behind the bed in the lake house. In the other place, I think a picture would be too much...I do think the bed sort of dictates what belongs belongs behind it somewhat: My son has a monkey :oP It would take on a whole different meaning in the master bedroom heh heh...See MoreWhat do I hang above couches?
Comments (7)You could take a look like these online vendors for soft abstracts: Minted.com, art.com, perigold (can be expensive), iCanvas, Pottery Barn (can get expensive), Ballards, Pier1..... Ultimately it's your choice since you know best what you love. You may also look at your art galleries... I tried that but those can't also get outrageously expensive. But then our idea of "expensive" is relative. There's always Home Goods if you have one near you. Have fun with it!!...See Moregwent
