My mom taught me to make apple jelly using the peels/cores. Here's the method: 1. Boil peels and cores with minimal water to extract the juice. (Strain and clarify as much as desired.) 2. Mix together 4 cups of juice and 1 box (1/3 cup) Sure Jell in a large pot. 3. Bring the juice to a full boil and then stir in 5 cups of sugar. 4. Bring it back up to a boil and boil for 1 minute. 5. Skim off any foam, pour into canning jars and process in boiling water bath for 5 minutes if under 1000 feet of altitude or 10 minutes if over 1000 feet. I find that this makes the most wonderful pink jelly if you use bright red apple peels. - Steve

bebe-3 - Sorry, I'm just seeing your question. I've been trying to come up with my own color, as Limonata is WAY too bright! A quart of white paint later, it's finally looking better. Anyways- The aqua color on my 13 year old's room is a shade by Olympic (Lowes) called Aqua Chiffon A58-3. I took the paint chip to Sherwin Williams & they color matched it in their Supreme Satin finish. It's a great color - Don't let the Chiffon name full ya - it's bright enough for my teen, but not too bad that it sent Mom in a panic! LOL persnickety- thanks for the suggestions! Update: Pacific Rim turned out to be a smidge too green for our purposes (I am really trying to stay away from something reading "hunter" if one is lazy, iykwim) -- I found a Valspar color, of all things -- "Ocean Abyss", which looks like a less saturated version of EK Emerald that got us into this mess in the first place :). Got a flat enamel quart of it and we're liking it. So my question: anyone ever used Valspar flat enamel? Geez, it sounds like primer in the can compared to other paints I've used, but it didn't technically drip...they say it's a scrubbable matte, but I'm definitely seeing some sheen. Trying to decide if I should have it done in a flatter flat (still scrubbable). I have about 2 gals to do, and if I can make do with the Valspar I will have much more $$ left over when I'm done, compared to Aura or up...(although I just painted my front door with Aura Exterior Semi-Gloss and I must say it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. I wish I had more to do with it, but it's definitely just a spot color--BM Merlot Red).

Well, of course you have that same photo. You have good taste! LOL Thinking out loud here (or rather thinking through my fingers).... Given the choice between painting the hood the same as the walls or painting it to match your lovely green cabs, I'd paint it to match the walls. Picture this vertical image: black range, stainless backsplash, wood trim, green hood standing out against a wall painted a different color. Or: black range, stainless backsplash, wood trim, painted hood blending into the wall. It think the latter presents a calmer picture overall, especially given the varied pattern of your tile backsplash. As for what color to paint your walls, hmmmm. Are the putty cabs close in color to the grayish tiles in your backsplash? And does that color blend well (in same color family) with the SS treatment behind the range? If so, using a paler version of the putty cabs will give a soothing, pulled together look while pulling in the wall of cabs across from the range. But frankly, Farrow's cream is calling my name (pick me, pick me, pick me). I think it matches the mood of your happy green cabinet color so well and will harmonize nicely with the hood's wood trim and the wood floors. I also like that it picks up the cream tiles, especially since I don't see that color used anywhere else in your plan. Oh, but I forgot to take into account your counters! Danby marble has gray veins, right? That's brings a lot of cool tones to the space as well. Perhaps enough for you? So I think it comes down to this: If green is your primary color for your space, what do you want to use as the secondary color, mushroom or cream? Are you aiming for a soothing, serene space (mushroom) or a cheerful, retro feel (cream)?
