Congratulations on the new furniture - yes it's scary but also thrilling.

Sorry no pictures, but I have glass end tables in the family room and living room. I love how easy they are to clean - just spray with window cleaner and wipe clean. I never worry what is placed on it, no need for coasters. I'll put a link to Room and Board which is where I bought my tables - unfortunately they don't make the one I have in my living room any more which is a shame because I would like to purchase another one. With their tables you get to choose your base and then your top - I have choosen stainless steel with frosted glass.

I've never heard of Jordan's so I looked at their website. Can you post links or photos of what you ordered?

Will this room be used often? If so, glass will be harder to keep clean. Do they have tables you can mix; some glass, some wood?

I have glass topped tables. Dust is easy to clean off them but mysteriously lands there again in minutes after dusting. Dust takes longer to show up on wood tops (well, seems to anyway).

Our living room is used more often now that we have a tv in it (the family room with its HUGE tv is sometimes more overwhelming than I want it to be and our living room has "my" Direct tv dvr in it so I live here now lol).

I don't have any pics yet; I couldnt find their "whole shebang" sets online. Jordans is a major furniture store in the boston area and the only one (of Jordans, Bernie and Phyls, and Bob's Discount Furniture) to offer returns/refunds within 7 days less delivery (and pickup) charges. Soooo...for $200 (delivery is $99 and if we return another $99) its worth it to me to accept it all and then return it if necessary.

I guess I am just afraid of the glass being too cold or overly formal. But every wood set they showed us, it was just tooo informal.

We ordered new carpet from Home Depot last week so we want to put off delivery of our furniture til at least then.

I can't believe I convinced DH to even go looking; he told me afterwards that he knew we'd be buying something today lol. He knows me much too well!

Cathrugg, congratulations on your new furniture! How exciting! My one concern about glass would be sharp corners, but if you have no toddlers it's not a worry.

Glass is so versatile. Plus it gives the illusion of more space because you can see through it.

I do hope you'll keep us posted and we would love to see your pics when you're ready. Be sure to take a "before" pic.

That is a deal, good for you. I paid that for just my tables. Like others have mentioned, I find the maintenance very easy.

The tables were originally a white wash color; I dabbled dark umber over them. Here is the coffee table after the paint job.

Heres mine,(ignore the no longer sitting around stuff) I searched forever for the perfect table which I ended up finding in a little rinky-dink furniture store that I never would of thought of going in because if you seen the stuff outside you would know why. Well, one day I decided what the heck and found it in the back where the clearancejunk(I do mean junk)was and sitting under a pile was this one for 200 bucks, it is one HEAVY piece of Furniture and everyone who comes over for the first time always compliments me on it, only bad thing is I wanted a matching end table but its nowhere to be found. Really ironic is a few months later I went in this store again and was blown away when I found the grandfaters clock of my dreams for more then half of what every furniture store AND online places (including ebay) wanted. So look where you least would otherwise.

I have a glass cocktail table in my family room and a glass talble in my breakfast area. These are heavily used areas. I prefer not to have to worry about using my furniture and protecting wood. Just don't have the time all the time for precaustions.

Also, I have a patterned area rug. Glass is less obstructive to viewing the rug.

My end table in the FR is wood. We use coasters for it.
