Would you be willing to paint it black or the same color as the crackled subway tile?What type of counter top are you going for? Is that the green tile also? Can you re-order the doors?

Try checking with the mfr to swap out the drawers and door fronts? Paint might be another option.

Painting it would be an option like others said, white, black, or green would be potential options. I'd say white is very common for the vintage feel and shaker doors should go really good with that feel.

Paint it distressed satin white or satin black -- depending on the room. Add green crystal knobs to the doors.

For a more vintage look -- decoupage old old botanical images onto the inner panel of the doors after painting. Or do the inner panel in a crackle finish.

How about painting it a distressed white (with a green base coat that shows on the areas where the white is wiped off (the old candle wax technique). Then green crystal knobs for the doors/drawers.

The shaker style is nice and simple. It should lend itself very nicely to a lovely coat of paint. Don't think of it as a horrid mistake. Think of it as a new opportunity to really beautify that space with some custom painting. :o)

Ordering up all the details for new construction can get very confusing, especially when you're rushed.

You can glue wood appliques on it to doll it up before you paint it.

If it's nice wood I'd do as squirrel suggested...........swap out the doors and drawer fronts.

We are at the end of the house budget and DH would be having fits (he is stressed to the max as we are down to the last month). In the interim, I will look for some vintage, frilly knobs and pulls. BTW, I made this decision on the shaker style January of this year. Oh wonder I forgot what I decided upon!

I will post photos when finished. Although only the floor tile is down, it looks great. I'm hoping they will install the wall tile this weekend.

You might check with your cabinet dealer to see if they could swap the front styles out for you for just the price difference (and maybe they'd want a restocking fee?) -- since they're unused at this point. If they're not custom, it might be worth a shot :)

I love Squirrel's idea.. I would call the manufacturer to see what can be done. The thought of painting something that's new would be a hard pill for me to swallow. I did a search as I have no clue what vanities cost, the one that came up with shaker doors was close to $3,000.

Thanks everyone for additional comments. I may be able to get different drawers/doors but won't be able to swap out at no charge--the vanity is custom by a local cabinet maker. It has occurred to me that even drawers that are not flat panel would look better being replaced and I could keep the doors, which are shaker style. Vanity top is supposed to be a white marble with some grey in it. In retrospect, it would be tough to paint and distress a brand new vanity as mentioned by roselvr.

I also intend to chat with our GC/carpenter about it. He is incredibly talented and is upset if we are not in serious like or love with every single thing in our house. He was not involved with selecting the cabinets though, and the issue is that everything was selected in such a large time frame. I found the tile work in our house to be the most challenging until I found a tile store owner to work with me so when I found something that worked, I went for it and vanity choice totally forgotten!

Is there any chance you could post a picture? I think shaker style, even in a stained maple, can look fantastic in the bathroom you are talking about - especially with a period appropriate counter like marble slab. Slab drawers are traditional in shaker style and IMO you don't need panels, just the right hardware (bin/cup pulls on the drawers would be perfect).

One of the nice things about shaker style is that it's so versatile and can take on either a contemporary OR a vintage look depending on how it's "dressed." My kitchen cabinets are natural maple, which you pretty much see only in contemporary settings but I'm not a contemporary gal and I combined it with a checkerboard floor and subway tile to get a vintage flavor even though it's unexpected/uncommon to find natural maple that way. We bought the house and the kitchen had already been remodeled so changing them out was not an option and I didn't want to paint brand new nice wood cabinets either even though painting them would have been an easy solution to "vintaging" them up. I think the fact that your vanity is stained and not natural already lends it more easily toward a more vintage look.

I definetly think the shaker style is in keeping with the vintage look. The color would be the question whether it would work or not. But likely you'd be ok there too if you didn't want to paint or re-stain since shaker really is imo one of the more versatile ones and should help pull it together with the right knobs and pulls. Here is my shaker style vanity in my old house. It had slab fronts. I wanted a little more of a vintage feel and hence choosing the shaker style.

Thank you so much for your words of encouragement about shaker style and stained maple. The photos from lyfia opened up a whole new world. I never even thought about using cup bins and I can see what a huge difference it makes. I saw some at the Notting Hill site that would work perfect. I will try to take a photo today. I'm sure it would help.

The color I selected for the vanity is not vintage at all. I tried going back in my memory as to what I possibly could have been thinking and then the light bulb came on. Originally, the bathroom was going to have an ordinary window and the leaded glass was going in the master bath. Then, I realized more people would see it in the guest/hall bath so I switched them and put the leaded glass window in the guest bath and of course, switched my theme for that room to vintage/victorian. Oh well, your suggestions have been great and I am starting to feel this is salvageable.

The wall tile is not in yet--only the floor basket weave tile. My tile person found this at a great price and I was surprised at how much I liked it installed. Interestingly, I had the sample with me for awhile, and when I mentioned I needed to get it back to her, she said no hurry, it's pretty unusual so no one has had an interest in anything remotely similar!
