Need paint help! BM Rich Cream or ???

This is my leading contender. I'm after a warm cream or taupe that is pale but still pops off white baseboards. I do not want it to read as yellow walls but I prefer warms over cools. Travertine and a dark maple floor will be in the rooms. Furniture is mostly dark wood and house style is Spanish-influenced.

I like the BM Rich Cream but a smidge deeper and less yellow would be even better. Has anyone used BM Hazelnut Cream or BM Flawless? It doesn't have to be that brand though. Thanks for any ideas!

Hi Michele,

We just used BM Rich Cream for ceilings in our Master Bathroom that we are remodeling and it is really pretty color. Have you tried putting it on the walls to see how it reads. On my ceiling there is no yellow at all, and not much taupe either...just a really creamy color. I have color corrected light bulbs in the bathroom so that changes how the color reads.

Sorry I don't have any experience with Hazelnut cream or Flawless. I do know that BM Subtle is more yellow than BM Rich Cream. Good luck!

Subtle is more yellow? It looks less on my swatch. A tad too light however. Maybe Durango Dust or Jicama? I'm making myself nuts!

One seems warmer (cozy), one seems cooler (peaceful), but they are both very light and I would be concerned how they would look with ivory furniture. Do they contrast without clashing? A warm light color I used in my Mom's apartment was Blond Wood. She was not wanting any color, but I didn't want her to have the cold white walls. THe color had to be bright enough to not obscure much light. Her apt doesn't have a lot of natural light. Blond Wood was perfect for both of us. She gets tons of compliments on it. It is dark enough that it would contrast well with ivory furniture but not too dark for light purposes. Definitely it is in the warm category vs. cool. I'm not a cool color person, so I can't help much on those.

My foyer faces north, with a covered porch, so no sunbeams ever. I walked into a friend's house with the same exposure, and asked "WHAT color is that? That's the color I need!" It was Hepplewhite Ivory. I covered the old BM China White with it, and love it. In my foyer it's a very soft, light cream on the yellow side, but you don't look at it and think "yellow"; it looks like the room is actually getting some light. I don't know Gentle Cream, though. My kitchen is right next to the front door, same exposure, and I'm debating replacing the too-yellow that's there with the Hepplewhite Ivory, or perhaps a gray. Hope this helps!

Caryn, I also can't wait to see pictures of your newly painted rooms since I love BM Rich Creme and almost used it for my Master Bedroom and sometimes wish I did. I am thinking of repainting my Laundry Room in BM Rich Creme. Jesemy, I love Valspar Belle Grove Buff wall color! Brutuses, I also love the green paint color you chose for the kitchen. redroze, BM Natural Creme may look nice in my home office when I am ready to repaint my BM Linen White Walls with white trim. I want my walls to be a little bit deeper in color but still be light due to needing my room to not be too dark when I am working.

what kind of bulbs do you have in there? they look on the lower temperature or 'yellow' end. You may want to replace the lighting, or at least the bulbs to something in a 4000K temp. what color is currently there? it already looks like an off-white. I like using the white straight out of the can with no tint added. it's the perfect white. You could always try that in your closet. with your lighting, it will take on a warmer hue anyway. And, if you don't like it, take it back and have your tint added to it for another color. free. I've never heard of Simply White having a green cast. it's one of the most neutrals whites. Chantilly has a blue/green cast. does it have to be white? why not a color? I'd also paint the wood trim in there a glossy white. it will help w/the freshen-up. Alabaster is a warmer white. pale oak is the perfect neutral and works with everything. (you could do that for the wall and the Alabaster for that wood trim)

Jicama is one of the colors in the current Pottery Barn Christmas catalog. It was my favorite color in the book, but looks quite yellow. Sparkling Wine is a lighter color in the PB catalog.

Subtle read very yellow in my bathroom, but didn't read yellow when I was at the BM store. Go figure. Paint!!! I don't know too much about paint but what I've learned is that I can narrow a paint color down to a few choices through chips, but, I can't choose the actual color unless I put it on the wall, or at least a big piece of paper and then tape that to the wall.

Did you try the rich cream on the wall? I'm curious...

If you want deeper do you want to go deeper towards the warm brown shades like a light caramel? I don't have a BM deck with me and my computer monitor doesn't show color accurately.

I had BM rich cream in a rather dark bedroom for a couple of months. In that bedroom it was yellow, the kind of yellow I'd consider for a nursery.
I think it needs a pretty bright room to look more creamy.

I recently painted my great room/kitchen with rich cream and ivory tusk for wood. At first, I thought it was too yellow, but when the dark furniture and wood floors went in, the color was very complimentary. It is subtle and not what I would call a "real color".

Subtle will definitely read yellow under certain artificial lights. My front hall is subtle...and I panicked the first night after I had the whole thing painted because it was reading yellow. Luckily I decided I liked it. Didn't show up with the "splotch on the wall" test...

Thanks everyone! I think I will rule Subtle out then. Rich Cream is still in but I am hoping for an even better fit for my home (less yellow and deeper) cream. No one has tried BM Flawless? Maybe it is new?

Have you looked at BM Monroe Bisque? Or perhaps SW Believable Buff? Rich Cream reads yellow to me. Have not seen Flawless.

I only have my B/M Classic deck handy, the other is out on loan so can't look at Rich Cream for comparison. But maybe this will help - we just painted our dining room B/M Palace White. It contrasts well with white trim, is warm but more of a beige/yellow than a yellow/beige

Very creamy, warm. Working well in my situration.

In this pic you can see a true yellow in the entry beyond for comparison.

Just wanted to say to dlm200 that the palace white looks gorgeous in your dining room. I'm in love with your chandelier. Very Candace Olson!
I have had red in my dining room for a long time and am looking to lighten it up...
