And I'm so glad she did!

About 13 months ago, I asked for help with my living room window treatments. I received some great photoshop ideas from Squirrelheaven and someone else (who I am so sorry for not remembering her name).

At the time, my windows just had shears hanging. The 2 top pictures are just 2 of the many treatments that were suggested.

The bottom picture is the final product. And we are so happy with how they turned out.

Again, thank you for all suggestions and help.

(All those electrical cords are from my Christmas window candles.)

Cameron: thank you for all the info on the plants. I will do as Nell suggested and make a plan with the info next to each. I only hope they will do as well as yours ! Pattioh: they will be all alone as the bed is brand new. I didn't realize the plants wuld be TINY...they will look lost for sure. I have no plan but am going to get one ...NOW ! patricia: thank you for the help. I have 1 yard...I can get as much as I want but I didn't know how much to get. Do you work it into the soil or just put it on the top as you said like mulch ? I was going to use it to condition the soil even though it is good topsoil. We have no clay. Thanks for any further inst. on that. lynne: pictures at 10:00...LOL vikki : thanks for the vote of confidence. I will make a note on the walker's low Carol...I hope they do well I sure am trying. MeMo you and Nell need to come ON !! Nell I have no plan but that was kinda what I had in mind so I guess I am on the right track. How little are these plants !!?? I bought the other clems to make sure I would have later blooms. I have looked up previously when to prune /not prune etc for them so that is OK. Pinks are still robust here. We are still having 60's at night which is weird. SMOKE again today. I sure hate it for you Ga/Fl folks down there in the fire regions. And no rain anytime in the near future for here. Very grim. Thanks, all you guys. It's nice to have you validate my purchases, even though every purchase is personal and not to everyone's taste. Jane--I suppose I have to CONTINUE shopping to MAINTAIN my official status, right (ha ha)? Luvs--Yes, I think greens on the table, the plates, the candles--I can see it in my mind, but can I do it on my table? Betty--You did teach me well, you enablers! I'll have to do another lesson tomorrow at Tuesday Morning. We're heading for the big city for DH's tennis match and Tuesday Morning is on the way... Sandi--I hope I can do something worthy with the plates. I never really looked at stripes before until I bought some cheap Corelle at a rummage sale just to tide me over until we move and I unpack my dishes. Thanks all for your complements and suggestions for plants for those pots. It only took 2 months to decide on the house color - how long will it take to decide what to put in those containers! I do like the idea of purple since the door is a deep burgundy. amysrq: I guess those live oaks are a dead giveaway - yes, I'm in Tampa. I love Sarasota and we would probably be there too if our jobs weren't in Tampa. Are you staying in Florida? Hope you're not going too far away..... Budge: I would be happy to share the formula. I forgot... I do have a few in progress photos. The one where one of our sons and I are standing next to the island was immediately after hubby had just made the waterfall cut and we were propping it up so he could see how it fit. LOL! That was such a nerve wracking day! LOL! We had paid all this extra money for walnut boards that were long enough to pull this off, and we couldn’t afford to mess it up. Hahahaha! The entire kitchen project took about a year total. Hubby worked entirely from our garage and driveway. He also took off an entire summer because he finished up two masters degrees, walked for them, went on a short term missions trip to Ghana, and one of our sons competes a lot for his sport (springboard/platform diving) and there’s a lot of travel for it, especially in summer as that’s the main competition season for him. But I was only entirely out of a functioning kitchen for two weeks (well, I used my laundry room and the grill out back during those two weeks) but I lived for quite a while without doors or drawers on my cabinetry... but my kitchen functioned during that time, which was important to me as we have five busy kids. The kitchen was an entire gut job though, we took down a part of a wall, moved a gas line, moved electrical, moved some plumbing just a little bit, added ventilation that didn’t even exist prior... it was a big job. The only thing hubby hired out was the fabrication and installation of our granite countertops. (Oh, and we paid for the 60” range to be installed because there’s no way to get into our house without navigating a staircase, and we didn’t want to wrestle that beast. We got a GREAT deal on that range though, it was a floor model and we got over half off on it and the hood... we couldn’t pass it up, and our neighborhood can support this kind of kitchen.) Actually, the cabinet around our fridge, hubby made that so the shelf comes out easily and the cabinet will eventually house a built in fridge like a subzero because that’s more expected in this area. We just haven’t found a great deal on one yet and that kitchen aid fridge won’t die, LOL! I included a before/after collage photo. People say “your kitchen before didn’t look bad,” but it was in horrible condition. The cabinetry was literally falling apart, and the layout was horrible to work in, we had no ventilation for the cooktop (and we do a lot of high heat cooking) and it was just miserable to work in because the layout was so difficult. My kitchen now is a dream to work in!

Yes, I do remember your 'unbalanced' room and prized desk! They look great and it's nice and bright in there! Glad it helped you take the leap :)

Please tell us what that beautiful soft yellow paint color is ??? :)

Slightly OT but can you please give me some info on the two wing chairs? I've been looking for a high backed chair for my DH. Are they comfortable? (He wants to say "Ah!!!")

i WOULD HAVE NEVER HAD THE IMAGINATION TO PUT SHUTTERS IN THAT ROOM AND IF SOMEONE SUGGESTED IT TO ME I WOULD HAVE BLOWN THEM OFF But looking at how it turned out, it is just A-B-S-O-L-U-T-E-L-Y lovely! It looks great! Just out of curiousity how much do shutters like that cost?

Lovely shutters - and they really complement the wall color. The room seems so bright and airy with the shutters instead of the heavier draperies.

Squirrel, I don't remember the paint color. It's a Martha Stewart paint that we purchased at Sears. When Sears was the only ones who carried her paint. It has held up beautifully.

Meg, the Wing back chairs are extremely comfortable. Even with their strtaight backs, they are "napable". Mine were made by 'Massoud' (I went and checked the tag). Purchased years ago at Haverty's Furniture in Tampa.

MsJay, Our shutters are Norman Shutters. They are available from many different sources (Penney's, NAFFCO, Discount Blinds, etc.). You can figure the cost to be about $18.00 per square foot. Which includes installation.
It took exactly 5 weeks from day of measuring to installation.

they look really lovely and in fact I am thinking of splurging on some shutters. I do not splurge often. LOL

I am assuming that $18 a sq ft is a good price?

Msjay, I think $18.00 per square foot is about 'normal' price when the Norman shutters are on sale at places like Penney's.

Norman Shutters are made of wood (in China), guaranteed for as long as we own the house. I like them better then the PVC shutters that can be found at a little less cost.

Maddielee, I just love the white shutters in that room! That is the look I would have chosen since it makes the room so happy, bright and just perfect! I also love the wall color. I love yellow colors with white blinds or shutters or sheers.

Squirrel and the other paint shop/adobe/etc. creative members on this site are so wonderful and I know we are all blessed they love helping us.

I love those shutters in your room. Squirrel has a great eye. Not only are they beautiful, but they're practical as well--control light, have some insulating factor, etc.

To me, shutters are architecture in many rooms. I've always loved them, even since I was a kid and people used the smaller half-shutters! They seem to becoming somewhat more affordable.
