You're welcome, squirrel. After seeing the Photoshop picture #4 I knew I wanted green. When I was driving over to a new paint store for yet another sample, I noticed a house that was halfway down the block. It was painted a gorgeous green and it was love at first sight for me. I actually drove back several times during my lunch break and the painter happened to be there. Unfortunately he did not know the color - all he could tell me was that it was light green!

So the next day I went back to the paint store. I figured that if I owned a house next to a paint store, I would use them to mix my paint. Fortunately, the store owner was in that day and yes indeed, the paint did come from this store. They knew the name of the people who owned the green house and of course had a record of the color in their computer so they were able to mix me a small container of paint! So it was sheer luck.

The trim was easy. I knew I wanted a creamy white and someone mentioned SW Dover White in another thread. It's a really classic color.

The painters were extremely meticulous and took two full weeks to finish the job. It was nerve wracking because they didn't start applying the body color until the fourth day and I kept begging for them to paint at least the front so I could see what it looked like!

Now if I can only figure what to put into those two green ceramic pots out front. I would like to try bamboo but I'm not sure it would work. What do you all think?

You must be thrilled with the final choice. It's just beautiful (mine is green and white too) but I like the dark door, sets is all off beautifully.

I was thinking some bright colored flowers for those pots, you've got a lot of green.

I just love the new color of your house and the creamy trim that looks wonderful with your landscaping. My neighbors have BM Cypress Green in their living room and it is a wonderful color that your house is so close to since it is a custom color used. I love it! Squirrel really helps so much.

For the pots, I would use something with dark purple (not sure what works well in the South (coleus?) and some trailing bacopa.)

You couldn't have picked a better color. The house looks like it "belongs" there! Years ago, I was building a house and picked the color for it almost the same way you did, except I knew where the paint came from. You can't beat a real visual.

I love it. It is absolutely dreamy. Reminds me of spring.

I don't suppose there is any chance of sharing the paint formula and the paint company that mixed it?

Hey Jerzee, that is gorgeous. Funny, I always thought you were in Jerzee! When I saw your house, like Mustangs, I realized you were here in FL. Where are you? I'm in Sarasota, but not for much longer...

I would consider papyrus for those pots, but they need lots of moisture. So, it depends on whether or not you're willing to babysit them. If you want something to stand out and coordinate with the door, look at Black Magic Tis. They can't take the sun but it looks like you might be shady enough there. I'd underplant them with some coleus.

For totally low maintenance plants, some large scale bromeliads would be nice too.

Before I knew I was moving, I was scouring the neighborhood looking at paint colors. I drive by a lovely green house every day on the way to pick up DD after school. Darn close to what you chose. It's certainly the way I would have gone.

Thanks all for your complements and suggestions for plants for those pots. It only took 2 months to decide on the house color - how long will it take to decide what to put in those containers! I do like the idea of purple since the door is a deep burgundy.

amysrq: I guess those live oaks are a dead giveaway - yes, I'm in Tampa. I love Sarasota and we would probably be there too if our jobs weren't in Tampa. Are you staying in Florida? Hope you're not going too far away.....

There is a great mailorder plant place that I get things from called Santa Rosa Gardens. They have wonderful grasses for pots. There is a penesetum rubrum (purple fountain grass) that would be beautiful. I have about 7 different kinds of grasses and every plant from them has done very well. They come in other colors too. Also Black Elephant ears that are gorgeous. Here is the link:

Thank you all! Trailrunner, thanks for the suggestion about the purple fountain grass. DH and I would both love an ornamental grass but we thought they all needed sun. Well it looks like the purple fountain grass can do well in partial shade so that might be a really good plant to try.

Check the web site for the "chocolate" plants they are featuring now. There are several very nice "carex" and the Black elephant ears are great. I just think it will look really nice in the front with that gorgeous green. PLease show us what you decide ! c
