are you matching switch plates to your hardware?
Comments (10)outlets placed horizontally in the baseboards This was the standard positioning when electrical service was introduced in homes in the late 19th Century. However, they migrated to the walls, where installation is easier. There's no Code restriction in my jurisdiction, but the walls are where the receptacles stayed. Though Leviton might disagree, receptacles and switches are generally not considered design features of a home. I use bone-coloured Decora switches that blend well into the muted decor I prefer. For period authenticity I would lean towards reproductions of the button switches, often inlaid with mother of pearl. Screwless switches and sleek controls would be consistent with the look of high-tech sleek modern homes. Here is a link that might be useful: Leviton devices...See MorePaintable Switchplates
Comments (10)There is a company called InvisiPlate that makes paintable wall / outlet / switch plates. They offer them in either smooth or textures like hand-troweled, orange peel or knock-down, so they can blend in with the color AND the texture of your wall. I know you can get them in some paint stores, but you can also order them on their website, which is www.invisiplate.com (a link to the website is below). I took a screenshot from their website that shows how some different people have painted them so the plate blends in with whatever their wall is. The InvisiPlates come already primed, so you can just paint them. I've used these myself and they're very easy to paint. Even the screws that come with them are pre-primed so you can easily paint them to match. They come in a bunch of different shapes/sizes including for different numbers of outlets, rocker/gfi switches, and light switches. Also, they're not much more expensive than regular plastic plates, which is nice, too! Hope that helps! : ) Here is a link that might be useful: InvisiPlate.com...See Morematching Leviton to Lutron switch colors
Comments (7)To add more detail. The reason for this Q is that apparently Lutron does not make 20 amp paddle switches (for disposers)---nor 20 amp GFI and regular recepts---where as--for example--Leviton does. My intent was to go with Lutron on all the switches--a mix of Diva--Maestro and paddles in either light almond or almond and then go with Leviton on the recepts--IF---those would fairly closely match in color. Same with the switch plates--especially in multi gang configurations. I don't want to go with the Lutron Claro plates (screwless) as have been told they stick out farther than normal screw in plates (not to mention their extra cost vs screw plates)....See Moreswitchplates & switches to match backsplash
Comments (8)Look at the colors of Lutron. I have GFCIs, regular outlets, and switchplates in the same color as my walls, and they're fabulous. I used Goldstone from the Satin series to match my yellow walls, but you may like one of the other series, like the Gloss or Matte, for the grays. If you hunt around the net, you'll find good deals on them. The colored GFCI outlets were the most expensive at $27 or so, but the regular ones are more reasonable....See MoreAnnie Deighnaugh
