Rearranging dining room wall art - pics!

Ok - my new 60" buffet with a blis coming Jan 2nd. I am going to reaarange the wall art. I may even paint the dining room and kitchen EK taupe. Do you think that color will work in these rooms? I ordered a sample from Ellen.

Here are the rooms and the new art, frames, and buffet I am adding.

The new art pieces are additional prints by the same artist I have on the big art piece - Karl Blechen 19th century German Romantic artist.

The mirror and the large pencil drawing will remain in the same places. The new art will go on either side of the large pencil drawing. I would like to use almost all of the remaining pieces on the miiror wall except for the large E which will go below the clock on the small side wall and the larger upper art piece to the right of the mirror which will go on the half wall section that separates the dining room from the kitchen.

I am simplifying one wall but making the mirror wall more complex and filling it with art.

Any ideas? Thanks.

I find it too symmetrical - emphasis is on 'decorating' vs displaying art. I'd remove the big 'E' (out of place in the setting), and that (otherwise nice) gridwork thing first, as it's interfering and taking up 'art' space, then rearrange what's left into an arrangement that sets off the pix themselves.

I can't visualize what you are planning, so I can't comment on that. You have some lovely pieces to work with.

This is just me, but I don't like seeing small pictures grouped around a larger piece, in this case a mirror - it reminds me of a mother duck with her ducklings. Repeat - this is just me.

I would prefer the mirror standing alone or with sconces, then have the smaller pictures grouped together. I would place them closer to one another, and do something to tie them together, such as same color frames, or same matting.

Have you thought about putting the mirror above the buffet - which I love, by the way. It will look great in that room.

You could use a much shorter lamp there to get rid of it blocking the view. However, it seems like a piece of art centered on that wall might not work......... that wall is basically the dividing line between two different rooms, right? (Yes, it's a great room... but the way the furniture is.... it just seems divided.) I would be confused about what to put up for that reason alone.... :) Personally, I would do a grouping of mirrors.... Something hung like these "Garden District" mirrors from Ballard: I'm not sure if the dimensions on these particular ones are right for your space, but I think something similar could work and look very nice.

2021 Update: I ended up keeping the art here with some changes: 1- centered the piano on the large wall (below middle clerestory window), 2- grouped closer and centered the paintings; 3- swapped the larger painting (portrait) with the 2 smaller ones (landscape), creating space for a corner plant. Now, I am selling the house ;( . For starters, the chandelier is hung way too high. Extend the rods so lights are at least 34” over the table.. Now, guests can see their food and see the opposite table companions. The entire area looks so tight. How do your guests pull back chairs and walk around (should they need the powder room)? Could we see more photos of dining area and the living area which seems to abut?

By saying "same as the big art piece" do you mean the large artwork between the windows? (not showing two windows in photo but I'm guessing there are two) If so, I would move the larger piece over the sideboard. It needs a heavier piece. More vertical than horizontal. I don't think the mirror alone is large enough for the sideboard...and the large piece between the windows is too large for its current space.

Nice looking sideboard, btw.

Also, with the chair backs and repeated pattern in the sideboard, I would be inclined to remove the mirror from the room. Too much of the same. I think the mirror would look great in a powder room.

Great looking buffet. As far as the art goes, in a word, simplify. Less is more. I would start with putting your larger piece over the buffet and work from there. You have beautiful things, but right now my eye can't make up its mind where to focus. After your buffet comes in, post some pics with the larger piece over it and more inspiration will follow. Take your time on this one and your walls will thank you! Have a great holiday in your wonderful room.

Chair backs, buffet, and mirror all have same grid detail. That's way too much matchy-matchy togetherness for my eye.
The mirror might look better when given a smaller space, like on a foyer wall (mirror should not reflect the dining room wall though), and then hang it vertically.

Thanks all. The mirror and large pencil drawing (my 1st college art class final project) stay where they are as does the large Karl Blechen print over the server table. I love the way the large Karl Blechen print looks as you enter the dining area. Now since I do not own this house I will not be adding a chandelier but for $35 from Home Depot I changed out the ceiling fan light kit. It used to be a school house style fixture - yuck!

I will probably move 3 frames to the guest bedroom and then play with the arrangement of what I have left over to see how it all looks. With the exception of my art (I also have tow other drawings in this room) and a piece by my daughter who is also a talented artist, everything else is a print or something I found on the internet. One of the photos I found has a special meaning. The day I moved here to live while I was waiting at the WI airport I picked up a newspaper that was laying around. In it was a pic taken at the base of a very tall palm tree in the jungle, Puerto Rico, I think. When I finally had my internet access about 6 weeks later, I actually found the newspaper story online in the arcives and saved the photo. To me it was like a mini sign - of warmer places to come.
