Need some advice of FR wall art
Comments (16)I don't think the iron piece or the clock bring the color and softness to the fireplace that needs to be there to balance it with the rest of the room. I am pretty sure this was discussed before, but have you considered applying some type of conditioner or finish to the stone to warm it up? You can see from your pix that it reads very grey and cold compared to the rest of the space, and I think warming that stone up will go a long way toward integrating it better. In fact, if you did that, you wouldn't necessarily have to worry about colorful art. Second, I think you really need to consider painting the fireplace surround, either in a black or an aged bronze look. The brass really doesn't fit the feel of the warm and cozy space you have created. I agree with those who have suggested you need to group things more on the top of the ec. Rather than a line of items making essentially another row around the top, having a couple of more substantial groupings will carry the eye through the space with more interest. Use some stacks of books in a couple spots to elevate the various pieces and add more color. Add pillar candles to the candleholders in a rich red to bring some color in and increase the visual height impact. I would also take one of the smaller green plants and tuck in the bird cage, with the door open and the plant spilling out. I would also look for a tall floor plant to place at the end of the entertainment center, down by the console table, to break up that solid wood panel there. You could also hang three small art pieces, one in each panel, to help bring the eye into the space rather than have it stop dead when it hits that wooden wall on the end....See MoreWhat's hidden in your sink base? Comments (21)I don't have a functioning camera right now to make an electronic photo file, but will remark that it is easiest inside a nice cabinet to use combinations of pex tubing and push to connect fittings such as Sharkbite brand (among many others) to avoid sweat soldering damage. All that is needed is a means to cut the pex to a clean flat end. Mistakes are easily remedied by using a different size piece of pex. Adapters exist to go from the pex to the fitting that dangling faucet hoses use. 3/8 poly line along with John Guest type push to connect fittings will be good for RO lines or such. Pex and poly are at their limit when used for pressurized water at boiling temperatures, so the hot water source in the house needs to be under some form of temperature control. A boiler type of water heater with potential for overshoot to 220 or so would be a risk in my view without a working moderator (required anyway by code). Some water chemistries tend to degrade the modulator so that needs to be kept in mind. My primary sink cabinet base includes garbage disposal and DWV plumbing, stand pipe for dishwasher hose, hot/cold feed for main faucet and to moderating valve for dishwasher (gets mix of hot and cold). Also there is the touch faucet control box, the fiber-optic garbage disposal control box, and quad electrical outlet. RO connection to both hot and cold sides of a pull-down faucet are present. All of the plumbing is mounted on stand-offs on the back or side walls of the cabinet base. kas...See MoreThe art consultant sent me a proposal for art in my living room! WDYT?
Comments (65)This OP has posted several dilemmas lately. I started reading this one from the onset and yes, there are several of the more critical posts missing. She clearly was happy about the selections and appeared to want validation from the people that had helped her with her other dilemmas. One of the first comments on my first dilemma on here was devastating to me and left me very upset. Fortunately, I have a thick skin and just flagged it and then along came some wonderful people to help me. Sometimes certain contributors just go too far. I’ve seen many OPs run off from this forum, but this is the first I’ve seen someone completely delete their account. THINK before you comment people! You could make or break someone’s day with your words...See MoreHow flexible can I be with colors in my artwork?
Comments (32)I completely agree with Lefty and IdaClaire. Art is not decor. It can certainly exalt interiors, but to relegate it to the category of decor would be remiss. To do so is to overlook the creative force that informs it. Art teaches us about the universe of which we are a part, who we were, are and aspire to become in the continuum. Art is. And it is content to preside alone. However, I do think it appreciates she who selects it as much as she who makes it manifest. Short answer is, no, Art most certainly need not "match" a room. In fact, I think Art would view the entire notion as ridiculous. To determine what we like in art, we must view a lot of it - and in person. As in face to face, real, original art. From what you've posted, you seem to be drawn to portraits. Manhattan has a tremendous art scene, so opportunity to explore your tastes abounds for you. You might have to get out of your comfort zone to do so. Art often requires that of us. And what an exciting prospect it is! In terms of how to arrange groupings of pieces, there are many formulas - many of which can be found here on Houzz - but it really comes down to what arrangement pleases you. I recommend you look into the Golden Ratio for insights on scale and proportional arrangements. Humans tend to be hard wired to look for that ratio - albeit subconsciously - as we find it very pleasing. It's applications are endless....See Morelobo_93
