What color should I paint my interior doors?

I have a question about my interior primed doors. I have the majority of my doors in my home stained. However, in the library and game room I have installed white primed doors. One french and two sliders. In another bedroom that opens up the same courtyard as the gameroom, I have yet another slider.

All of the doors leading into these rooms are stained. I want to use the stained moulding.

If the doors are primed, what color should I paint these doors that would go with the stained doors and moulding in the same room?

I am asking this question because I have not seen a room with this type situation.

What would you do?

Hi Vfish -- If you want your doors to "match" your stained trim, you could paint them a brown color as close as you could get to the brown tone of the wood. They wouldn't match, but they would blend.

Are your floors hardwood?

mclarke, yes, my floors are hardwood, a Brazilian Teak, in other rooms, I have a walnut travertine.
I am afraid to try and paint the doors to match the beautiful doors I have in that room, I just can't get that look out of a paint.
Or maybe there is something else out there that could closely mimick the stained wood?

Pool, I thought I’d love the navy, not sure why I don’t! I like it in Deco’s example. Maybe it’s just the mock-up — the lighting, door style, etc. Mock-ups can help somewhat, but of course aren’t exact. You made a lot of good points. Different colors really influence the personality of the house in different ways. My fav is the California Chamois, or something like it. It looks fantastic with the stoop and brings life to the house without being garish. I don’t love every color I posted, but just wanted to show a variety. I think shutters (especially white) would look awful on this house because the windows are different sizes and too close together for them to look right. Kathleen, if you decide on white for the door, you could bring in color with pots. Such a charming house. :) I hope you don’t paint the bricks. They bring personality and character. White brick would stain easily, peel, etc.

Here’s a few initial thoughts. I don’t think the door should be a focal point, in fact, I would paint it to match the walls to reduce visual clutter. The rear wall is an excellent place for large art you really love that pulls in the color of your drapes. I would place a long, low bench under the art. Add pillows in all the colors in the room to make everything cohesive. I think the clock is a bit large for that space, but if you love it, I would hang it so that the middle is at eye level.

I would not paint the doors brown. In my opion, this does work as well as either a real stained door or a door painted another color. Is it a potential to replace the doors and get stained ones? Stained trim around a white door is too much contrast for me. But white trim around a white door might work.

Well, it would be very hard at this point to get the doors stained, since we already have a primer on them from the company.
What about painting the doors in a slightly darker color (semi-gloss finish) than the doors. Has anyone seen this?
