9 Technicolor Interior Doors
Turn plain doors into brilliant color statements with just a little paint and a dose of daring
Houzz User coco323 recently posted the following on the Discussion Board, and I'm so glad she did:
Has anyone posted an idea book that talks about colorful interior doors? Occasionally they show up in an idea book and I was wondering how they can be used in a house? Can you only do one, or must you only use one color? Thank you!
Well coco323, thanks for the idea! You may definitely mix up the colors of your interior doors. Unless it's something that bugs your eyes, an eclectic mix of door colors can put a unique stamp on your home and provide some fun clues as to what's on the other side. Here I've gathered not only some colorful interior doors, but some others with interesting design features. Here's a look.

Can you do only one door? Yes. A good way to get your feet wet is to paint the inside of a mudroom entry door. You'll love it so much, you'll likely end up painting the rest of the interior doors soon after.
If you look at the rest of the pictures of this home, you'll see that the owners have used this bright blue on all the door sides that face this room.
Barn doors are a great opportunity to add a fresh accent color. These large architectural elements are moving panels of color.
Think about not only going colorful, but going glossy. A red door injects this room with high gloss, updating its French country look.
A tile collection this wowzah requires a bold chartreuse door. The side that faces the hallway is also painted chartreuse, hinting at the color explosion hiding behind it.
Must you use only one color? Absolutely not. Let's look at doors that dip into several cans of paint.
Homeowners in Nova Scotia traditionally paint their interiors cheery colors because it gets dar very early in the winter. Doors are a great opportunity to mix in even more color: These yellow and turquoise doors contrast with the robin's egg blue walls and keep the inhabitants' spirits up on cold, dark nights.

DIY master Brian Patrick Flynn provided us with a tutorial on how to bring outside door architecture in, punching up this formerly ho-hum interior door with paint, faux trim, a new knob and a knocker.
You can also add chalkboard paint for changes on a whim. Available in a range of colors, this paint allows you to switch messages, scribbles and the chalk color. As seen here, you can also outline a chalkboard in a bright color.
