camp/lodge/hunting decorating ideas for bath

I am redoing my sons bath. I have a thyme green and brown paint for the walls that will be devided with a wall border that is lodgy looking. I have a few old/antique items such as : rod and reel, minnow bucket, ski poles, lantern,trap, window that I put an outdoor forrest poster behind w/a birch curtain rod, small wooden barrel for trash and another to hide plunger & brush,enamel "slop bucket"?) for extra hand towels....any other rustic ideas?? This is a good sized bath 18x15. Only large items are the shower an antique tall dresser,vanity and toilet. Any cool ideas anyone could share???

We have a lakehouse and we used a piece of driftwood we found in the lake and mounted hooks on it for wet towels and robes, etc. ORB fixtures, dash and albert striped rugs in front of the double sinks and as a bath mat. We used an old wooden box for soaps, a bucket for trash.

It sounds big enough for a chair --- maybe an adirondack with a barkcloth cushion?

How about a lantern-like light fixture?

I posted the link below once before because I loved the cabins in the tour. No one commented, go figure... I think you might find some cool ideas.

Thanks so much mntrdredux! I do have some old splitrail I could attach antlers, old door knobs ect.. for robes or hand towels. I'm going to go check out your link..again, thanks!!

Hi neighbor! We are from Minnesota, and do a lot of camping. One place you may want to consider is the Boundary Waters Canoe Area... Beautiful! It's up in the northernmost part of MN. We go to a lot of state campgrounds... some of our favorites are St. Croix State Park, Interstate Park (I prefer the Wisconsin side), and Lake Itasca. Try the MN DNR site for good descriptions of each park; you can even reserve camping on the site. We like the walk-in or backpack sites- more privacy, and usually they really in the middle of nature. In Wisconsin, we like Big Bay State Park (Apostle Islands- in Lake Superior.) You take a ferry from Bayfield, WI out to the island (Madeline). Amnicon Falls Park is also a winner. Really... there are so many, I can't name them all. Northern MN or WI are the best locations- you really can't lose there. Have fun!

Your home is beautiful ~ I love the windows and the view is breathtaking. Here are my suggestions. I think the arched, painted bookcases detract from the massive beauty of the fireplace stone. Maybe rough sawn cedar beam shelving, or pine, to compliment the weightiness of that beautiful fireplace? The other suggestion I have is to google log homes and notice the kinds of lighting and decor they use. Antlers made into chandeliers, stuffed birds hung from the cathedral ceiling as though in flight, bear rugs, massive log furniture. We have a log house with a big, natural stone fireplace (not as big as yours!) :-) Our floors are slate, too. Our cabinets are simple pine with black wrought iron handles. There are no arches anywhere in the house ~ everything is simple, straight and clean, emphasizing the beauty of the wood, stone, and glass. Our mouldings are made from rough sawn pine log ~ even around the fireplace mantle. The pieces which are highly visible have worm tracks in the wood, which is very cool. To us, anyway! Our family room is very rustic, think 'cowboy'. My husband has a couple of old shotguns I'm going to mount on some wooden cornice boards above the slider doors. I like the idea of mounting the guns above the doors if this works in your room.

When house hunting, I never cared about personal decor. I'd rather see some personal decor than everything abandoned and just empty rooms! The saddest one though, was a house on an awesome two acres in a perfect location, where the 90+ year old woman had passed away with no relatives to claim her things. The rooms were stashed with photos and photos and momentos, all of which would come with the house -- since there were no relatives to claim them. I ended up passing on this house (although I cried about it, thinking about that poor lonely woman in such a lovely setting) because the kitchen dated to 1940 on a good day, and because the basement was floored with dirt, and because the 1790-era house had many doorways that only reached 5 and a half feet in height. Running in a rush would have risked decapitation! I didn't have money for those sorts of renovations. I don't know what I would have done with all that stuff - consignment shop for most of it - but it wasn't the personality of the place that did it in for me, but the extreme renovations that would have been needed. In other words, if I see someone else's personality in a space, I'm more able to envision my own there, too. If it is sterile, I can't imagine things. I hate sterile. (Just, preferably, take your stuff with you, if remotely possible, when you do sell it. She couldn't, and if the other factors hadn't been in the way, I'd have found a way to deal with it.)

Not sure what you mean? There is no connection, except somehow sometime I came across it and I loved the site and so I bookmarked it under what i call "decorating sources". I just love the site!

Anyway, I was surprised when I posted the link a while back, in response to a cabin decor post, no one commented.

What do you mean following Wandawega? Maybe im the one missing something?

Duh. As usual, I'm guilty of skimming. You'd think I'd learn by now because I thought you were saying Wandewega was YOUR lake property! It's turned up on a few places in recent months - can't remember which magazine but something I picked up, maybe Midwest Living? And the Lettered Cottage blog has featured it in several posts. That's what I meant by following. Don't mind me..... I'm just going to go read/skim some more posts and post something else that makes no sense!

LOL, noooooo.

We have a lakehouse second home in upstate NY.

We also live on a small lake ( I would call it a pond). That was not exactly intentional, having two "lake house"s but we bought our upstate lakehouse back when we lived in an pretty urban suburb and wanted a country getaway.

But I have never even been to Wandewega!

If I told DH we should go on vacation to stay at a lake, he would probably think that's a joke!

You are a Wandawega groupie, too? Where upstate is your lakehouse? I think back in the real estate boom a lot of people bought second homes -- we did too but stayed closer to home.

I have a huge soft spot in my heart for this kind of decor! Being born and raised in Michigan, I've seen many rooms and homes done like this. I don't have any ideas at the moment, but will be anxiously looking back here for ideas and pics. Please show us pics of the bathroom when it's done. I'd love to see it!!

I can't imagine how I missed the link when you posted it before mtnrdredux. It is my favorite style. Born and raised in Minnesota. Lake cabin since I can remember. Your link is really authentic looking.

I can't help but throw some of this stuff into my place, it's so near and dear to my heart. Grandpa's old oars? Check. Dad's old fly rod? Check. Plaid picnic baskets? Check.
