Remember me? I painted my countertops dark to help decide?

Well, I got my new countertops today! After 2 years of trying to figure out what I wanted. I thought I wanted soapstone, so I painted my countertops with chalkboard paint. Glad I did. After a week, I realized they were too dark for my kitchen. I did a 180 and chose low maintenance Corian Witch Hazel! I could not be happier! Well, I could. I now think my walls look too yellow for it. The walls are Homestead Resort Sunwash, which looks good in the rest of the house, but not with the countertops. Darn, I just painted all walls last year. Maybe a backsplash!

Oh, and it's not a kitchen item, but I cleaned and painted the metal above my bay window and painted it copper metallic! I love that paint!

I left off the picture of the field tile being installed. The backsplash for the long vanity will basically be the field tile as shown in this picture. Seems like everything is pale in the room right now. Would having a dark pop of color (maybe dark or darker gray) be too much of a contrast if that was the only dark color in the room? (the floor isn't too light but it looks like wood and has a rustic style so one could say it looks a bit "washed out".)

I love browns plus grays..a lot, a lot. Just beautiful. Not every shade of course but these two were born for each other. so it's my first reaction upon seeing both samples (they are both pretty)

okay..so so far I understood to you the granite is a biggest issue then..change for quiter countertop surface you love(but you need to decide whether you're changing color/stain of the cabinets. since they have to correlate, colorwise). different backsplash. quieter surface will give you more freedom with backsplash too. different pulls(unless you like the ones you chose) Learn pros/cons of your preffered countertop material in advance..Quartz is not bulletproof..(as granite isn't too. none of them are-everything will have pros/cons) for example, I love mitered edge more than rounded-but more possibility it might chip. Find as much as you can about every material you're going to install. If you do decide to paint/re-stain (and no, I'm not advocating white, like, at all)-it should be a pro job(unless you're willing to do it yourself..and know how, and will take lots of time) and yes, it'll chip too if say a fork falls or a knife and bangs onto it)) everything might chip-but on stain you'll see it less/will be less bothered in short learn as much as you can about what you'll be working with..and check your own tolerance to imperfections I can't see your kitchen fully..maybe you won't need any seams. if you do though-you'll see it to a degree on quiter light Quartz. not a biggie but first several days one can't keep eyes off that seam)) then one gets used to. backsplash-whatever will be-decide where you finish it(I'd do lower bottom cabinet level) and how. every guy/gal you'll talk to-being it a store or your GC or installer or..-ask questions. Don't presume they know you don't know..some will educate you, some won't. Ask everything..

I love the slabs you are looking at. Beth is great at this and has very good taste and knows her color schemes! I too like the tempest with the stone and cabinet choice but it has what you like best. Just because we all think it looks great does not mean you love it. Maybe you do need to look at more. Look at all of Beth's beautiful pictures. You want to be sure and you should LOVE your choice. I just went through this myself and this house we are building will most likely be my last (scary thought) so I understand where you are coming from. Get the stone that you jump at immediately and love. Maybe Beth and AJCN can fly out and come with you :)

I do so love that pattern, and it looks great in your kitchen! I remember your post about painting your counters. They did look great, but it is awesome you got the chance to decide ahead of time whether they would work for you.

Paint is easy to change! 30 bucks for a gallon of paint can finish you off right proper.

I love the counters! I also like to work on lighter surfaces as I once bought a black desk and ended up taking a loss and selling it and now I have a Cherry desk.

I also feel that you need a backsplash or a different paint color under the cabinets.

I had to repaint my kitchen after just painting it, as the cream shade I originally chose had strong yellow undertones which I didn't notice on the sample card, but showed up as a true yellow in my kitchen. It made my cabinets look very yellow too, so it had to go. So I repainted it a light beige with no yellow undertones, it looks so much better. I agree your yellow paint doesn't look right with that countertop either, Choose your backsplash first, then when it is installed you can choose a new paint color. Do get a small sample can of paint though, and try it out first. Colors look different in different lighting situations. The corian is beautiful, just not with that yellow paint.

Love it! Looks great. I know what you mean about the black surface. I love how it looks but I once stayed in a condo with black counter tops and I knew I wouldn't be able to handle it. I did put them in my laundry room and LOVE them there since I don't spend as much time working over them. I had Corian before the granite and I loved how it felt so soft and smooth and was basically worry free. I do love my granite too, but that soft feel of the Corian is so nice.

Enjoy your new kitchen! Good luck with the paint. It's so hard getting paint right on the first try and it seems to change throughout the day too. I never seem to get it on the first try and sometimes not on the second. Frustrating... But at least that is the least expensive fix : )

How about some darker gray paint for the walls? Will give the place some depth and contrast? The counters look gorgeous!!
