I hate my new cabinets - help with counters
Comments (25)I do love colored cabinets. Sorry you're not getting what you want. I wanted white too, but we are just too dirty around here. What I wanted to say is that if I'm not mistaken, svelte sage is the closest match to Farrow and ball's French gray. There is a kitchen that all of us love with a french gray island. This is one of my favorite kitchens ever and if there is even a remote chance that yours looks similar. I think you'll be very happy! They used wood (not sure if you're interested in that) and it looks beautiful. That thick wood top is sooo pretty! Actually, the other wood doors are very similar in color to the ones you picked out with a golden something or other granite on the tops. I think that marble would be gorgeous if you can handle the pressure if it. :) There are some quartz tops that look very similar. You might try that. I'm not sure if I'd do soapstone (though would be pretty too) if you're worried about darkness in the kitchen. Try not to worry too much. I know the whole process isn't the greatest. But, the decisions you've made are very pretty and classic to your home. It will be stunning when it's done! Comments (30)There are downsides to painting the tile, even if it comes out well initially and you don't use the super cheap rustoleum kit. One thing is you have to stay up on the cleaning - using it more frequently but not as abrasively. For example, I wouldn't be able to scrub the grout except for gently, maybe with a toothbrush. Also, this is not a very long term solution, maybe 3-5 years if taken care of. By then I will most likely be ready for something else anyway. To do the shower and tub together (black + white) costs less than $200 plus a weekend or so of my time, which I usually have very little of but I have plenty right now. I am not trying to argue my way of you guy's good logic, but providing more information just in case some comments were directed at cheaper products / perception of long term use (10-15 years). Also, I know a lot of you are professionals or otherwise experienced in these areas so I am still seeking and valuing your input....See MoreShould I redo the cabinets and counter top?
Comments (23)Granite in a kitchen in a house valued at $100,000? NOPE, that's a waste of money. You won't begin to recoup what you spend for it. And everyone is changing out their tile countertops, at least from what I see on this site. (It's that grout, who wants to clean the cooking dreck out of the grout?) I would consider NOT buying a house with tiled countertops in the kitchen, all other things being equal. Some people really prefer stained cabinets over painted. I can like the look of either, but unless you get a true pro to do the job ($$$), it's going to look cheapened. Those cabinets look fine to me, and would not dissuade me from making an offer. It's the curb appeal (driveway) you may want to be focusing on. Oh, and see if you can bleach the floor tile grout in the shower as white as possible - or see if there is a way to make it all look like it's supposed to be one light sand or gray color of grout......See MoreShould stain be light or dark with dark counter top?
