Can't decide on countertop material
Comments (12)If you have access to pre-fab granite counter tops, that would be pretty reasonable cost. I did 4 baths all with pre-fab and here is the break down 1) Powder room 25"x22", black granite, pre-fab exact size and holds pre drilled. $120, installation $0. 2) Guest bath 37"x22", I use some kind of cheap cream marble from China, used 1 slab of 8' prefab $130. Cut, drill holes and installation $200. Now, I have a spare slab of almost 5' for my garage work bench! 3) Kids bath, 78"x22". multi color red, used 1 slab of 10' prefab - $250, use the excess for the platform next to the bath tub. Cut, drill holes and polish 1 17" edge and installation $250. 4) Master bath, 82"x22". used some kind of green looking natural quatz, 1 slab of 9'x30" $400, use the excess for a 5' window sill. Cut, drill holes, polish straight edge for window sill and installation $300. I use all vessel sink, so there is no polish needed like for an undermount sink. But the installer told me that each undermount sink - cut hole, polish and installation will be $150. The overall installation cost is pretty good because I bundle the whole deal with my kitchen granite. Although the work was done at 3 different times - kitchen first, then powder room + guest bath and finally kids and master bath, the price was negotiate and agreed ahead of time. As for the slab, all 4 comes from 4 different shops! :-( Here is a link that might be useful: My bathrooms...See MoreI Am About At My Wits END!
Comments (25)Sandy, M has been online all day, so I'm really late getting here and have not read all the responses to you. That said, When I broke my ankle on the pool ladder 18 months ago, dr didn't tell me I had torn and strained the tendons and ligaments. A year later, after walking in the sand, I was hurting again. My favorite bone dr (not the first one) told me it was the t & l. Still. I have had an ankle brace since Aug. 2007 and have spent some time back in the fracture boot by choice around Thanksgiving. I just quit wearing it, but maybe should still be. He didn't tell me when I could quit. Did they do a bone scan with the radioactive dye? That would show up a stress fracture that might not show up on reg x rays. That's how they found the fracture in my wrist when I fell on ice about 12 yrs ago. My advice it to bind it somehow to help keep it stabil until they know for sure. Lots of ice on it, not under foot! Keep it elevated and continue to take the anti-inflamitories. And let us know what you find out from the MRI. Tami...See MoreAm I using too many materials for my kitchen counters?
Comments (24)Did you go to Elizpiz's album so you could see all of her photos and enlarge them? I have several coats of Waterlox on my wood island top. It is a wonderful finish and I have no worries about how it will hold up to the water around the sink. (I am always creating a lake around our sink, and we have kids who cook and bake, so aren't the most careful and neat either.) Our sink could be undermount or self-rimming and we did the self-rimming, feeling it was safer with the wood (and to match our main sink, which was self-rimming because of being in a laminate counter.) Many people here, though, have done undermount in a wood counter. If we did that, I would have made sure to also finish the under side of the wood for a good radius around the sink opening....See MoreCan't decide on Countertops - Plz Help!
Comments (2)A lighter island would be my choice given the relatively low level of natural light. We often provide island and perimeters in different colors in the high end homes we do so you wouldn't be doing anything unusual....See Moreabcdlatham
