That sounds like a very frustrating thing to be going through. The only thing I've known of as a similar situation was my Mom fell once and her ankle bothered her something awful. She went to many doctors and had many xrays, lots of different medications like you are getting. It took a lot of perseverance but finally a specialist found a hairline crack in her ankle bone.
I guess you just have to keep asking until somebody finally finds what the problem is, as frustrating as that can be.
I haven't tried it, but your problem sounds like a good candidate for the Serapeptase supplement everyone was talking about a while back. Maybe cut out the medications and give that a try?

Sandy, I'm sorry your foot is hurting. I don't have any suggestions to offer. My daughter had a stress fracture, and they put her in a boot for 6 weeks. I guess with all the x-rays it would have shown up by now. I hope you find out the problem, and let us know

They should have done an MRI after the first Xray didn't show anything. When DH broke 3 small bones in his foot they didn't show up on the Xrays so an MRI was ordered the next day.Go insist on one immediately.

The ex was once rear-ended in a car accident. He had severe neck pain for two years. Finally made an appointment with a neurologist. On the 3 hour drive to see him, I looked at the medical report which stated that ex was hyper-responsive to MINOR pain! The Neuro took one look at the xrays and called me in to show me that the ex's neck had been broken in 2 places. Obvious on the xrays, and his doctor and radiologist had missed it for 2 whole years! And then said he was over-reacting to pain. Unbelieveable.

My nephew was in a one-car rollover once, at age 17. The ER nurse said his blood gases showed he had a heart attack. The doctor yelled at her for saying that and then denied the diagnosis, but DN probably did have a heart attack, he has Marfan's Syndrome. He also had a punctured lung from the accident, but they didn't order additional scans. Two years later after a lot of pain, they discovered he had also broken his back in two places. Too late to do any treatment, so he still has back problems at age 33.

I am soooooo sick of Dr's that PLAY God!! The specialist that I went to see could have just as well have patted my hand and said it is just a boo-boo...get over it!!!! He did tell me that there were other 'expensive' tests...but they left those for the athletes! He really torked me off. I will NOT be going back to him for the MRI!

I can't believe some of these stories....2 years!!!

A few years ago I fractured my wrist. The Dr. said it didn't show up on x-rays, but he could tell it was fractured just by the way it looked. He said that is not uncommon with wrist and ankle fractures. Although I hate for you to have a fracture, if the MRI shows one you'll at least know what is causing the problem.

Sure hope the MRI shows what it is so it can be fixed and not bother you anymore. I'd take pleasure in sending the "specialist" the results. Mostly importantly, I hope it stops hurting soon.

I'm sorry for your pain Sandy. Isn't it just the way when you have an injured 'something' and continue to keep hurting it. Like Murphy's Law takes over your body. You need to stay off that ice young lady.

Painful feet can really be debilitating . I sure hope the MRI is the answer to your troubles. Please let us know. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that you get to the root of this pain.

Sandy, I am so sorry you are in pain like that and the Drs aren't doing anything to help you.

I am sure this isn't what is bothering your foot but have you had a blood test to check for gout. My friend Kathy kept telling us about the pain she had in her foot that would just suddenly come on -on the top and the side and her foot would swell up sometimes. They did blood tests on her and found she had high uremic/uric (not sure which one is correct) and that she was suffering flare ups of gout. Her Doctor told her that usually it is felt in the big toe first but hers was on the side and the top of her foot.

I hope you find out what is wrong so you can get it looked after and have no more pain.

As someone who has been seeing a lot of doctors and going in for lots of tests for the last 2+ months, I can understand your frustration. I hope you find out what is wrong and feel better soon.

Same scenario as I was in 2 March's ago! I hurt my right foot doing the 'Electric Slide" at the beach bar!
Like you-suffered & gimped around for 5 weeks until I FINALLY got an appointment with a Sports Orthapedic surgeon (he handles the Bucs players). Sure enough-there was a hairline fracture located about 2" under my little toe-about 1" in from the outside edge of the right foot!
He put me in a walking boot for 6 weeks. It still pains when I am on my feet for any length of time. I sympathize with you. Soak it in Epsom salts each evening to alleviate some of the stress on it and hit the Alleve, until you get help.

I think we need to wrap your foot in bubble wrap before you hurt it again! Hope you can find out what is wrong.

BTW - are you taking meds for Type 2 diabetes? My doctor told me that the chance of fracture is higher on the meds, although the stats mentioned hand and wrist fractures but the bones of the foot are much the same, aren't they?

Not like what you have....but I do have a foot that hurts...

I was sewing on the machine just before Christmas and my foot hurt the rest of the night. And the next day and next day...

Now several times a day in that spot it will have like a spasim...just throbbing...Hurts so bad I can't hardly stand it but then it quits. Only last a minute or so.

It reminds me of a "Tic Douloureux" but they are on the face. (My uncle that raised me had that...His got so bad they cut his nerve....I'm sure they have better ways to treat it now...that was in the late 50s)

And no...I haven't gone to the doctor...That's like pulling teeth for me...I hate going.

Good luck....2 years and 3 MRI's later, they still don't have a diagnosis!!! If my foot didn't swell up like a crazy thing, I think they would like to tell me that it's all in my head! When I am in pain though, the foot bloats up like a dead fish!

Sandy, a friend of mine broke one foot and then abt 3 wks later broke the other. Hairline fractures. She wound up having ultra-sound tx from a chiropractor that finally helped with her pain. Maybe find one of them or a D.O.

Sandy, M has been online all day, so I'm really late getting here and have not read all the responses to you. That said, When I broke my ankle on the pool ladder 18 months ago, dr didn't tell me I had torn and strained the tendons and ligaments. A year later, after walking in the sand, I was hurting again. My favorite bone dr (not the first one) told me it was the t & l. Still. I have had an ankle brace since Aug. 2007 and have spent some time back in the fracture boot by choice around Thanksgiving. I just quit wearing it, but maybe should still be. He didn't tell me when I could quit.

Did they do a bone scan with the radioactive dye? That would show up a stress fracture that might not show up on reg x rays. That's how they found the fracture in my wrist when I fell on ice about 12 yrs ago.

My advice it to bind it somehow to help keep it stabil until they know for sure. Lots of ice on it, not under foot! Keep it elevated and continue to take the anti-inflamitories. And let us know what you find out from the MRI.
