I'm not in love with the way the iridescent tiles go pink.

The clear/green glass tiles are more classic, IMHO.

Of the two... I prefer the second. The first one reads too pink.

If you love green, go with the green. They're beautiful and like rob said classic. And being that you love green, their sparkle will make you smile every morning when you go in for coffee.

I agree with the posts so far, and prefer the green. I wouldnt use cream grout like the sample has, though. Depending on the rest of the room, I'd consider grouting in one of the dark colors of the quartz, or if you dont want contrast, a grey-green that blends in with the tile.

With the beige cabs and mostly beige countertop, you need a different color to keep your kitchen from being a big beige blob. The sage green harmonizes well with both cabs & countertop.

BTW, I really like your maple cabs. A lot of kitchens these days are maple stained other colors, cherry, white, or really dark cabs, but natural maple is naturally gorgeous!

On my monitor the first one isn't pink at all.

I can see the first one with a contrasting accent piece. However, thats just how it looks on my screen...

Honestly, I don't like either tile very much...but I do recognize that the green could make for an interesting contrast. I don't see it that way, though, but I'm not known for my artistic vision.

If you have other colors to show, go ahead and put them up -- nobody will be bored!!

Perhaps try one of the blends?

hmm...I don't really like either one. This may be a little out there, but what about a lighter backspash with some pencil trim (not sure if that's what it's called) or accent tiles in black?

I have a friend who used a cane colored glass that was not iridescent and it looked fantastic. I think her granite is the same as yours but her cabinets are cream colored. I'm not crazy about the green tile when there is no green in the countertop. What about a mix of green glass tiles with the stone tiles to tie it in? I have this in my bathroom and love it!

Look up my kitchen in the FKB to see your Oceanside equator green tile installed in a complete backsplash. I love the iridescent tile, but I am not loving either color choice in your kitchen. I like the Cane marginally better, because the color blends better and I think it would be simple, but I agree with the other posters that say you may need more contrast.

Sorry, but I'm not feeling any of the tiny tile with your granite. Why not go with larger tiles?

agree with what most have said. the green is the better of the two, but you can certainly improve on either of them.

a darker tan/red (almost a light brick red, like saltillo tiles) might be a good shade to pick up some of the tan/red tones in your countertop and contrast with your cabinets.

I don't like either one. Too much pink in the first one, green one just doesn't compliment your granite. Maybe a mix that has more earthtones like your granite. Good Luck!

I don't think the green does anything for the granite or cabinets and unless you're going for more of a monochromatic look, the cane isn't the best either.

So, what else do you have?

I vote for the second picture (the irridescent one) ... very pretty and looks good with the cabs and the countertop. the full-on green doesn't seem to blend with the countertop very much.

#3 is my favorite. I don't think 1 or 2 work so well.

I see a more classic approach with those colors. Something like this. You can also use a 2 x 4 honey beveled subway tile with dark pewter accents to pick up the black in the counter. I really don't think the green matches it and the other is too flashy.

Of the 4 you've posted, I like #2. But then again, I love bling. :)

Sorry, but I personally don't care for either one. The green

I would go with something very neutral for the backsplash something like Blondelle posted. Very striking! With the
green backsplash and the totally different color granite, there is just too much going on when you walk into the kitchen
for my taste.

Do you find yourself getting annoyed and not caring what any of us think? If yes, then good - just go ahead and do what you now know you want to do!

If you're now concerned and second-guessing the backsplash - also good! You weren't as in love with the glass tile as you thought and have time to make a change.

Just be sure to do what YOU want to see in your kitchen everyday and not what someone else thinks looks good because it will probably be at least 10 years before you'll be willing to go through this process again.

The problem with the small mosaic tiles is that they are a similar proportion to the grain in the counter and they fight each other. All those grid line conflict with the speckly pattern. The other issue is your cabinets and counter are too traditional in feeling for those backsplashes. It's like you first decided to go traditional and then did an about face and decided, no, I want to go modern instead. I wouldn't mind those with a sleeker kitchen with a slab door and plainer counter though. If you want to go more modern then combine a light porcelain or stone beigey tile with some glass accents, but your backslash tile should be larger in scale than a small mosaic for the above reasons.

You have a lot going on with your countertop, and the backsplash needs to compliment it, not fight it for attention.

Your counter is in a very similar color family to the cabinets so I would have a contrasting backsplash color that is darker...picking on the dark grain in the counter. Blondelle's suggestion is beautiful too.

I too had considered some of the iridescent tiles because face it= they are stunning! However, they were so variable in terms of how good/bad they looked that I just couldnt continue. I can see in your photos at least the first one looks like it has potential, but then in the second photo, at least to my eye it really clashes. ( I also don't see the green). I like what blondelle suggested and maybe if you really do want the sparkly, those coudl be your accents but I would probably use less of them.
I think the advice here is very helpful and honest.... hopefully you were looking for honest opinions. I hesitate to comment sometimes when it looks like it won't work color wise becuase I know first hand how much computer monitors and flashes distort things so if they really do look good in your kitchen, go for it. It's just that on my monitor and apparently several others, it looks questionable.

Here's your green with a deeper grout to tie it in with the counter. A warmer green like this with more yellow would work better though. The darker grout makes the grid pattern less noticeable.

The olive green of the Hakatai tile is a better fit, and is propably about 1/2 the price too. It also comes in frosted, and iridescent if you want to do a blend and scatter a few iridescent here and there.

I'm sorry, but I'm not feeling it for any of the tile selections. The green does nothing for the granite and the other two choices just give an overall beige impression.

I really love your cabinet choice and I keep envisioning a red contrast...but I see that wouldn't work with the granite either. Mmmm.

Hey..is that very dark brown or black in your granite? Can you pick up on dark brown?

Quandries, what did you think of the green with the deeper grout. If you love the green, it will help tie it in with your counter. It's a warmer green than your Oceanside green which works better with the counter colors. I still like the more traditional look of the beige with darker accents with your colors I mocked up for you. Did you like that at all?

I'm sorry to confuse things even more, but have you considered going kind of plain with a contrasting insert like lsandler's photo below? I'm sorry if this is bad forum manners, and I'm hoping it serves more as flattery to lsandler, but this photo was posted in response to one of my questions and I thought it might help you so I snagged it. This is very interesting to me, because I am/was looking at the exact same tile for my backsplash. People at the tile stores all seem to love the green tile, but I just don't think it goes with my cream/brown granite. Also, as Blondelle pointed out, the patterns are kind of dissonant.

I think Blondelle's suggestion to play with the grout color, thus eliminating the busy-ness of the tile grid, is a great one. (I'm going to use this suggestion myself if I wind up going with 1" glass.) Another thought is to mix the tile. I agree with you that the first tile--cane--is a terrific match, but might be too blah on its own. But how about a blend of cane and green? Maybe 20% cane? just enough to tie in with the counter a bit more than green alone? You could also mix in SOME irridescent rather than making the whole irridescent, which will lighten the contemporary tone and perhaps fit your cabinet/counter selection a bit better.

I really can't wait to see what you wind up with!!

I think picking the backsplash is so hard, there are so many choices and forget about trying to pick out a mural type behind the stove!!!!!! I love the diamond shape ones shown above!!!

Quandries, seemed to have disappeared ;-(. It's so frustrating when so many of us here have offered their time to help, including myself spending time doing mockups, and then the original poster just disappears. It would be nice to know the direction they are going in, and for them to at least give a simple thanks to the large number of people here who took the time to offer suggestions and photos, even if the person goes in another direction. It's just manners.

It seems to be the same pattern. Someone loves something, posts it here to get confirmation that their choice is a good one, doesn't receive that confirmation, and then they just disappear.

I just did another two mockups for someone, and all I got was "can you do it another way for me", without even a simple thanks for the two I did. That's so rude! I just should keep my big mouth shut I know, but maybe I'm too sensitive for my own good, but this behavior bothers me. Really makes me not want to spend time doing artwork to help. I just feel badly for the people especially if I feel their choice isn't a good one, as these choices can cost thousands and I would hate to have someone make a mistake because they couldn't visualize the elements together, when I have the ability to help them to do that.

End of rant...OK, I feel much better now ;-).

Sheilaaus, thanks for your post. It's very nice of you to write that. It's not even the thanks. It's wanting to get some feedback from the person as to whether they liked your solution or suggestions. You never know if it was helpful or not. It's like giving someone a present, and then having them never open it. I'm sure some who have posted several times here feel the same, but I'm the only idiot sticking my neck out saying it ;-).

I wish we could also get to see the end results of all our suggestions sometimes. The problem is if we are negative to what the person wanted to do, the final result never gets posted as they are afraid it will also be met with criticism. Oh well...

Hi blondelle and other helpful posters. I had been considering a similarly patterned granite with a 1x1 tile mosaic backsplash and all the information and pictures posted has at least helped me see exactly why I don't want those two things together, even if the colors seem to work. We'll go with our other choice plain granite instead, because we love the backsplash tiles and now I can see how the two things would compete... so thank you so much for at least saving us from a bad outcome!

Please, Blondelle and others, don't stop giving feedback on questions like these! This wasn't my question but I found the responses and photos incredibly helpful as I think about my own backsplash.

I'm so happy they were helpful to you. It's so scary spending all this money and not knowing if you will like it or not, and I'm so glad I saved you from something you might not have liked. I'm a designer and it's even hard for me sometimes to picture things together without seeing them.

I feel especially bad for someone who doesn't like their outcome and try to show how it would look finished or with some minor changes. It's just so much money being spent on kitchens, and for some it's their dream kitchen and it's just heartbreaking if it doesn't look the way they thought it would.

Blondelle, I really have enjoyed the mock-ups that you've done that I've recently seen. Even though I have nothing to design right now, it was also a learning experience for me to see that the patterns conflicted. I'm not designing anything right now but I like learning about design. Your work is appreciated by many silent voices.
