We've owned a Samsung 4661 for about six months now. Both contrast and colour are excellent. We were looking also at the 4665, which is also an LCD. It was a no-go because of its shiny screen (unusual for an LCD). There are skylights in the living room. This is why a plasma was ruled out early on. We looked at a lot of LCD and plasma sets - including the Sonys - and preferred the Samsung 4661. We were limited by width - a 49 inches - so the form-factor sealed the deal. My DVD playwer delivers very good video through the component video inputs. Over-the-air 1080i HD broadcasts are spectacular. I've not yet used HDMI. If the picture is as good as broadcast HD, I will be pleased. There are two "quirks" I've found with the video quality. One has already been discussed - response time. Blurring was not very noticeable on sporting events. However, the slower response was obvious on the Nasonex commercial. The bee's wings are nearly invisible on the Samsung LCD. The "flapping" is just too quick for the screen. This is the only response issue I've seen. The other "quirk" relates to blackness uniformity. All LCDs have minor brightness variations across the screen. These can be seen only during very dark passages. In the Samsung, they appear as barely-visible pillars of light covering the left and right 10% of the screen. They disappear as you get to within five feet of the set. From what I saw in the store, the pillars are more obvious on the shiny screen of the 4665. Viewing angle is very good. The contrast dulls only slightly when seated beyond 45° either side of center. Audio quality is not bad. However, the speaker location and the set's thinness take a toll on the bass. Wiring it up to our stereo fixed that. Speakers placed near an LCD or plasma set will not affect picture quality. From my experience, the picture controls on the Samsung are set too aggressively. Here are some of the ones I settled on... Brightness - 45 Contrast - 9 Colour - 45 Backlight - 8 Please note that setting the brightness too high will exaggerate the "light pillars" I mentioned before. Conversely, the backlight level has little effect. The "enegy saving" setting sounds like a good idea - until you use it. The backlight level changes dynamically to match the material. Ideally it should do so without being noticed by the viewer. Unfortunately, the control cannot keep up with sudden changes in overall brightness. The result is something like the "blooming" effect seen on some CRT sets, where brightness regulation is often an issue. All-in-all...the Samsung is a fine set. It has plenty of contrast and great colour. The dark matte screen handles the skylights without trouble. Even direct sunlight doesn't wash out the picture - a real problem with our old picture-tube television. Peace. Marco

Neutrals are quite hard to decorate with, they pose no less difficulties than color, if not more..that's why it's hard. (Wood stains are easier. Not all of them but most of them. That's because we really see them as neutrals-lots of trees around)) Fabrics and paint..yeah, we consider such and such neutral yet it still bosses us around to a degree. They are warm, cool, light, dark, whatnot But. From what I see you like both earthy and luxurious elements..am I right? I think if you pull colors from your living. Light ones, whites, color of the sofa, colors of metal in your dining chandelier..And you translate it into textiles. Fabrics. But make them as earthy as your furniture-bigger and with a lot of texture, different texture, Yet a bit luxurious as well. Say faux fur. Add a throw, couple pillows. Go for different textures. Don't make these skimpy..should feel comfy, and break the expanse of furniture. And-you should love it. Really want to use it. It's about the feel as much as it is about decor. You can add an accent color you love. Actually you can add many. Start slow and see where it takes you. Just be generous about different textures, and sizes of things. Not a lot of small pillowsbut a coupe of really cool ones. Along these lines. Put books on yout table..if you like them of course. Or a tray. Bring in plants. You can add a rug, for interest and pattern and fun. You'll add curtains at some point, I suppose. You'll add art-no need to hurry. As you go you can decide to move pieces..say an ottoman, a small side table..you'll become more relaxed, will play with placement more, will add colors, will decide to substract colors. You'll figure out your comfort zone, I love your bunnies. The ones on the dining table. I look at them and see a sort of a clue. They seem cozy where they are. Is there a bird cage in the corner? It is intimidating indeed to start off..and no place can get done in a day, unless it was collected for years (or painstainkingly designed in advance like it was collected for years) and then you just called movers. (and even then will need tweaking and thinking and whatnot). But as you go you get more like a bird or a bunny:) More carefree. You start enjoying. You make mistakes-well it's not an open heart surgery, you know. You tweak it, you play with it, you have fun, in the end of the day.

All three of these colors are considered greige from what I read although on my walls husky seems less greige and a true dark grey. I’ve tried so many colors here. Edgecomb grey was completely beige with no grey showing through at all. Reverie pewter was a dark beige On these walls and wouldnt do any justice to an update. I also tried repose grey which was to dark and had a green cast at night. I must have tried at least 12 samples and I’ve narrowed it down to these three. I think my orangy wood furniture it throwing off the colors here. Its hard to see how they would work with the furniture white.

I find monochromatic soothing, but agree that this this can be better. The entire top half of the room is empty and that accentuates the weighed down feel of the sectional. The solidity of the sectional is not enhanced by heavy end tables and the recliner, and the repetition of squares isn't helping. I'd replace the end tables and perhaps not have one at the window wall. In that corner maybe a floor lamp or very tall display or storage piece. For the other end table, consider something with a lighter feel, perhaps round, or glass and metal. There's texture going on but no reflective surfaces to break up a very matte feel (glass or mirror). It's all very flat. Some simple wood or painted shelves on the long wall would draw the eye up. Personally, I don't like to be reminded I'm in a basement and the window does that. I'd likely cover that wall with a long rod and drapery with a geometric pattern, even if it's nearly monochromatic. If you choose black accents or natural wood accents, repeat them at different areas and heights.
