I would do a solid trim on the drapery, a wide band that looks like it was there on purpose, not just enough to fill in the gap - in fact, I would probably band them all the way around.

For the color, I would use that amazing blue that is in there. Yep, the blue. It will be wonderful against the gold walls, and will bring out the terra cotta in the fabric.

I would do the headboard in the solid terracotta. I am assuming you are painting the wood green to match the other pieces in the room (if I am remembering correctly). Then I would try to have enough of the drapery fabric to make at least one decorative pillow (one side could be a solid, or two shams. I would trim out that pillow or the shams in welting made in the blue.

Les's suggestions are great and would certainly be my choices also. Gorgeous fabric! I am a bit confused why you'd be choosing this 'dark dark bark green' for furniture? Now I've no idea what that is - LOL!! - but I'm having difficulty imagining this. :-))

When you say a wide band all the way around, do you mean top and bottom of the panel, also?
I will need about 2 inches to have the panels meet (when closed) with a little gather of the rings/fabric at the rod.
Would 3 inches of band on each side of the panel be enough, do you think? Or should I go a bit more?

Light terracotta for the headboard -- it doesn't matter if the color of the fabric on the headboard is not the color of the coverlet? As long as the color is in the same family, right?
What is the general guideline about a tailored bed skirt, same color family but different shade OK?

I'm having a heck of a time when it comes to the colors Terracotta/Rust. Everyone has a different hue/shade of the color.
Haven't been able to find any two that even come close so far but I'll keep looking for that special pillow I want to make.
On the same thought, if I go with the Blue Banding on the panels, what if I have the same trouble finding the exact blue as in the window panel fabric? The blue is not blue-blue but has what seems like a bit of green. Not enough to make it aqua but enough.

As for the shams, oh how I would love to make matching shams (I'd have to read up on Welting 101 but I'd do it!) but I don't think I'll have enough fabric----eeeek! Unless I do the panels with a different color at the top and the print 3/4 the rest of the way. But that would bring me back to trying to figure out more color coordinating combos.

As for the dark bark green bed -- I love how it's turning out as long as the room's lights are on or at dusk.
With natural light coming in the window each post, each side of each post of the bed takes on a different color---- Another Eeeeek!
I'm thinking about adding an antiquing on top of the dark green just to unify the dark bark green color all around. The antiquing would look ok in the turns of the posts, no?

I saw it, I fell in love.
It's not like the other fabrics I have for the rest of the house but something about it grabbed me, no rhyme, no reason. Just knew I had to have it. (Funny how that happens, huh? lol)

Just posted the latest pics of the paint/bed frame.
The color is/was a surprise to me ala hubby.
The bed is a king waterbed, cira 1969 or possibly 70's era (raising kids era. it was all a blur).
We looked at new waterbeds but went into sticker shock in the process.
Being the cheap....errr...I mean, being budget conscious (read: strapped financially) changing out the headboard (removing the 70's cane and roses/etched mirrors) saved us a grip of money and also helped the landfill.
Changing the color, painting the original wood would also be in repurposing/restyling the bed to bring it up into at least the late 80's/early 90's.
Hey, it might take us awhile but we are slowly coming into the 21st century. *wide grin*

Got the plywood cut to fit the center area of the headboard and I would have gotten started last night if I hadn't farted around with my Sure Shot stapler that I think has stapled it's last staple.
My Dad is looking at it now to see if it can be fixed then it will be on to upholstering the headboard!
I'll definitely show ya pics when that's done, whether it comes out OK or not, promise. *smile*

Have you considered not padding the headboard, but just leaving it open? It has kind of a nice scrolled effect. What I would do is see if you could add some wood to the bottom part and attach that to the frame, so that the headboard would sit up much higher - I think it could be a nice effect.

Yes, I would band all the way around, and do a little more than you need. Better for the panels to be on the full side than on the skimpy side. Of course, if you are never going to close them, then don't worry about it. If that is the case, I would do the top quarter of the drapery in the blue, and then use the extra material for shams. You wouldn't even have to do the whole top of the shams - you could just do a panel down the middle third, and do the rest with a solid terracotta or the blue.

It is really hard to tell from monitor colors, etc. but I am wondering if this blue might have possibilities?

Yes, the blue is like a Teal but lighter (brighter?) than the teal in the link you posted.
Ok Les, I'll be on the hunt for the perfect Teal and I'll see what I can come up with.

I'll get samples/swatches and I'll post again when I find a few Teals that either match or come close.

The headboard -- The plywood for the headboard is cut in the exact shape, curves and all.
The only difference, the plywood is cut about an inch and a half smaller so that once padded and installed, there will be a little reveal of the green paint all the way around.
We've been living with the headboard not padded and we both read in bed.
What happens every night is our pillows start squeezing into the openings and makes reading a bit uncomfortable. lol

I went searching this morning for 'How to add Welting' sites and Les, I can do it, I know I can!
