I think a round drum would look nice...you already have a lot of rectangles/squares with the table and pictures.

Just for a possible measurement -- line up your placemats along the center line of the table -- and just see what length might be needed for a rectangular or island chandelier .... always helpful to have ideas for measurements on hand for possible chandeliers ....

Functionally, how do you use the table and the room it is in?

If you want to be able to use the table for task work in addition to dining, then I would suggest having the electrician do the wiring to hang 2 fixtures from the ceiling. This would allow enough good lighting to be able to do games/puzzles/sewing/crafts/office work at the table. Just put on dimmers and dial it back a bit for dining.

The table is used for working on the computer, reading the paper, large dinner parties (even though we have another dining room). Are you suggesting two drum pendants, Julie?

Thanks, I do like the idea of a rectangular drum, as in teacats suggestion, but would like bronze metal. If anyone has a beautiful but simple fixture over their long table (and 8-foot ceilings), I would love to see it!

Here are a couple chandeliers that might be an option for your space. IMO they are a little more casual but at the same time more interesting than the one shown in a previous post. I saw these on the Bellacor website but I am sure they are available elsewhere.

Yes I was saying to consider 2 fixtures. I would want some nice bright light for working.

I might consider seeded glass fixtures also. If you always will have the table there and with all the leaves in place, then you can bring down to a lower height than if you need to be able to walk under the fixtures.

Something like this below. Although I would probably look for one that offers higher wattage with more than 1 bulb.

Thanks for tip , beekeepers wife. I really do like that fixture but it's silver and all my hardware on kitchen cabinets and curtain rods are oil-rubbed bronze (or thereabouts). I would love one that's shallow, simple, but with a shade with a bit of texture. All so hard... Thanks!

I like the idea of two drum pendants. The drum pendants will go well with your home and the design you have in the other adjacent rooms. You have a lovely home that is casual and cozy.

So I'm down right now to two drum pendants or one rectangular one. Try as I might, I can't seem to find a rectangular one with bronze hardware that isn't too deep. Any suggestions?
