Some like to echo the theme of their art with their accessories, some don't.

Simple and often used would be a bowl to the right and two candlesticks to the left. Odd numbers.

I would love to see one or two very tall buffet lamps that would act as brackets and "frame" the painting -- as well as offering another option for lighting the area ......and simply because there is an electrical outlet there too! LOL! :)

OR: Perhaps a glass bowl in the colors of painting for center of the top of the table? Check stores like Ross or T.J. Maxx .....

And maybe a larger pretty decorative box and some old leather-bound books OR perhaps large art books for the bottom shelf.

I don't think I'll do any lights....we have fish-eye lights in the ceiling for accent onto the painting.

Whatever you end up with, I would suggest it not be white. It's very distracting from the wall color and the art. I also would paint that outlet cover to match the wall; distracting, too.

I see there's a tag on the table. Is it a done deal? I only ask because I like the suggestion of lamps on either side, but I think you need a wider table to make that work. I don't personally like to see the lamps doing the tango with the frame. I also think you need to bring that painting down a bit...maybe six inches....maybe more. Maybe it's because I am short, but I think it is usually better to err on the side of hanging artwork too low rather than too high. Makes accessorizing the table easier too...less space to fill! ;-)

Honestly, I think the table is too small for the art, and also a bit casual for the formal feel of the art and framing. If the art is a keeper, I would look for a chair and small side table to put there, or a longer table or bench. I think visually the art needs to be no more than 2/3 the width of the furniture below it.

However, if that table is staying, then I would get rid of all the small pieces. Paint the outlet cover to match the wall color. Get a runner for the tabletop that picks up some of the colors in the painting, perhaps a tapestry of some kind. Add a grouping of 5 or 7 candlesticks of various heights, tho all on the tall, heavier side visually, in a brass tone to compliment the color of the frame.

I would also try to re-focus the two lights so that they are both aimed toward the center of the art, and you don't end up with any dark spots in the lighting on the art as you have now.

I agree with amysrq and Les917: a wider, higher, more formal table if possible. If not, lower the picture.

Personally, I wouldn't do the lamp thing, and I would restrain myself from overdecorating the table, especially by keeping everything on the table the same color. I like Les' idea of 5-7 chunky candlesticks in a tone that matches the frame. The vertical candlesticks would cause the eye to go up to the painting.

I would leave the bottom shelf empty.

If you keep the table, I would keep the setting simple. Maybe a tall vase in the red in the picture, with branches in winter, flowers in summer. Then two other items smaller in scale, clock with gold trim and a low bowl for example.

Let me see if I can keep up with you all....I think the "tag" someone mentioned is actually an outlet with a nightlight in it. Funny, it's not that obvious (I don't think) in real life!

Good thought about a chair, but not enough space for traffic flow....

I wondered about the height on the wall and distance between the painting and table. DH and I are both 6' tall, so I put the middle at eye level for us. I thought I could surely figure out the table top....

I don't know if I want to lower it. I don't want to feel like a giant looking down on things!

I love the painting! I think the table is too low and doesn't compliment the painting. How about something like this?

If it were mine, I'd find a lovely low good sized bowl in the purple shade that is in the painting which would also match that color in the chair that we can see and just keep it simple. I think the painting is the star.

Oh, that's too funny....you're right, it's an outlet! In the photo, it looks like a tag taped to the front drawer. Sorry!

If outlet does not bother you, leave it white. If it starts to bug you, paint it.

I think the chunky candlesticks on one side and two smaller items on other side. Or, med vase on one side with two items on other side. I was thinking of a large bowl on bottom, maybe blown glass to be somewhat glowy and transparent when light shines through it. Maybe in an amber color. Would accent room color in other room and would not compete with the green wall or colors in painting.

Ok...I've got a new table, and new lamps. I hope I'm on the right track here!

I know I still need something on the top between the lamps, and in the center shelves.

Love the new table. I would rather see one lamp, tho, something with more shape and substance, rather than a pair of skinny buffet lamps. What happens, imo, with the two lamps is that you end up emphasizing the narrowness of the wall space, rather than letting your eye float past the edges of the wall.

Plus, having the two lamps over the two side shelves each with two figurines is too much two-by-two for me. I would like to see a lamp more like this, which I think picks up the greens in the wall and art, as well as the multitude of flower colors. Not crazy about the shade,would prefer something plain.

I would hang the artwork just a few inches above the cabinet, let the lamp overlap the frame a bit on the left side. Move the figurines to the center for the feel of a collection, and use the side shelves for some books, perhaps a pretty bowl, and maybe a small ivy or fern on one shelf, to pull some color down from the wall and the artwork to the cabinet.
