Where should I put a table in the kitchen?
As you can see below, it's not the biggest kitchen... we just got this table from CB2 used at a good price, but it's a little big so not sure where best to put it!
For reference, the old tenants are moving out so that's why there's such a mess, plus the walls are getting painted white and the cabinets a blue-gray to update it :) In general though, I'm not sure how to make the best use of the space.
With four roommates and WFH the kitchen table is important, and it'd also be nice to have little cart/island for more counter space when cooking + pantry solutions! If anyone has insight into how we can make best use of the space, that'd be amazing :)

3 years ago@partim Here's some more photos (oh wow the place looks bad right now)! The table is 36x72 inches -- could definitely go against the living room wall and then just be pulled out for dinner parties.
Room: The width is 9ft excluding the counter (11 ft including), and it's about 17.5 feet long plus an additional 4ft if you include the little nook by the door.

Comments (13)I think it's fun! If you wanted to make it less boho and aliitle more straight up chandelier, you could change some of the colored crystals for clear ones. You could also choose to stick to maybe one or two colors of crystal and mix with the clear. I seem to always swap out some of my crystals on all of my chandeliers to make them my own and because I love French Pendant crystals, so I order them online and replace some of the other crystals for the new ones. Comments (10)The first thing that strikes me is that your curtain rod is too short which is why you have to push the curtains to the side which kills the vibe in this room. Get longer rods and linen-type curtains that are fairly similar to the wall color which will give the room warmth without looking busy. Please make sure that your area rug is as large as possible because that will make this room look fabulous. Little bitty rugs do not. I would choose an Oriental rug in warm colors because it will hide little accidents, at least until you can address them. I would definitely get a sofa, so great for cuddling with your husband and kids. I would place it in front of the window for good lighting for reading but also because it gives you the best sight lines into other areas of your home. Instead of a coffee table consider a large ottoman with a lid so that you have plenty of storage space. Please don't buy a brown or black leather couch. They look dated and are so difficult to decorate around. Try beige or caramel, with two chairs in contrasting colors, perhaps a nice blue or green, colors that will be in the carpet hopefully. You can also use the carpet colors to choose pillows for your soft furniture. Find some nice pictures to put on the walls, a large green plant, a bookcase or two (books are a must in a room) and side tables for lamps. Comments (3)how about you carry in the same type of wood from the other room into your kitchen? a flooring guy would have no problem matching it and staining it on site. or, do a nice porcelain tile this is bella moma from Tilebar.com. it's an 8x8 tile. would work well w/your countertop . also at tilebar. (you can get 5 samples for $5 over there) you could also do a solid piece of marmoleum. in the interim, you can actually paint that vinyl flooring, (just clean it really well, and prime first) prime it, paint it white, and then do this stencil in a nice blue that matches your countertop. or do a vinyl decal to cover the old flooring....See MoreWhere should I put my microwave in the kitchen island?
Comments (6)what are the dimensions of the wine fridge.I would probably have a smallish one and have it on the end of island so the person stands at the short side of island to open/close ..doesnt have to be in the kitchen main aisle. prime spot but wrong item to place in center like you show. 18 in width full depth trash pullout would be more than adequate....microwave drawer is usually specified at 24 in SHARP brand...leaves room for maybe tray divider or narrow rollout cab with these adjustments. 72 in island .....to the right of sink and anywhere else give yourself stack of drawers not rollouts behind a door...See MoreAly Berger

3 years agolast modified: 3 years agoI would find a cart that fits in the nook by the door, then go to the nearest HFH Re-store and try to find a couple of base cabinets that are close to the style you have, and also uppers to match the width, if possible, or find a tall pantry cabinet (and get rid of the hutch thing if the current tenants aren't taking it.) Upper cabinets can be stacked for pantry storage. Have the new/used cabinets painted to match the rest. Once you rinse items at the sink, you can move to the wider space to the right of the range to finish prepping, then if you have a helper, the cart can be used. ETA, for counter, you can have a piece of plywood cut at Lowe's, and paint a dark color, or you might be able to find something at the Re-store.
I don't think the floor is ugly, but if you want to delineate the dining space by using a rug under the table, just make sure it's big enough to pull out the chairs when someone is seated.
Can you change the swing on the fridge door?
