remove dimmer capability of ceiling fan light?
Comments (4)"remote control for fan and light" As soon as you use a remote control you are looking st solid state electronics to turn the light on & off. I have yet to see anyone using mechanical relays for this (and driving relays from solid state controls has many of the same problems since you are driving the relay coil with a distorted waveform). This requires the bulbs to be dimmer compatible....See MoreAny ceiling fan remotes with NO dimmer?
Comments (1)I have the same situation, though the bulbs work just fine (no flickering). Best thing would be to get dimmable compact fluorescent bulbs. Go to 1000bulbs.com, type in "dimmable fluorescent" in their search engine, and pick the bulb size, wattage and temperature that is best for you....See MoreRemoving Dimmer Switch for Ceiling Fan/Light
Comments (2)Thanks DavidR it went smooth, only took 5 minutes. I came back to repost some self-deprecating humor. I found some old photos from 8 years ago that showed the light-switch in question WAS a regular on/off when I moved in and I had taken it apart and snapped some photos. *I* was the one who replaced it to a dimmer to begin with! Now years down the road I had forgotten, then came back here to ask "hmm, I wonder if it's OK to put a switch BACK in". You know you're getting old when.......See MoreShould I put in a light with the ceiling fan?
Comments (24)I vote no on the hanging down light kit. Extends too far into the living space, the light is too close and too glary as it is either bare bulbs or glass shades. It looks declasse' in my opinion (sorry light kit lovers.) I agree about lights above the ceiling fan, the strobe effect. It is hypnotic and unpleasant. The only one with a light that I'd consider was at Home Depot and it had a cute little 18th-century type chandelier hanging down from it,as ceiling fans with lights go it was pretty nice. Just scoured their site and don't see the exact one, but this is sort of like it. They also have one that's very woodsy with faux antlers and a "stump" as the top shaft. I won't have ceiling fans in the house period. I hate them and find here in Dallas that they simply are not missed or needed. As I've said before, why would I want a small appliance hanging down from the middle of my ceiling? It's only about the next best decorating element to a window air conditioner. DH insisted on having the fans in his work and exercise space upstairs and they are hardly ever on. Here is a link that might be useful: Home Depot fan with chandelier...See Morecobraguy
