Help me choose colors for house exterior redo

We have a very comfortable garrison colonial that is classic for its late 1970's build, but I have never liked the mustard color of the aluminum siding. Please share your opinion as to a redo for this house exterior. We may be selling an another year plus, so I don't want to go crazy.

1. Would you paint or re-side?

Is re-siding about twice the cost of painting? (not DIY)

2. Please suggest new colors for the siding which would match or complement the brick.

3. Please suggest colors for the trim. Alternatively, should I get rid of the shutters and have the windows re-trimmed? I don't know how easy that is.Should the door be the same color as the shutters?

4. Picture was taken before the flowering dogwood in front of the porch filled in with leaves. Any suggestions for better plantings along the foundation? I tried to add japanese boxwood this spring but they all are partially from the drought earlier in the summer (we live in Baltimore).

I like the shutters on the top windows but not the bottom picture windows. I would take off the paneled-style detail under those windows and then perhaps install wider, shorter shutters that are the same height as the windows and flowerboxes under the windows.

The siding looks like it's a mustard yellowish color and isn't complimenting your pretty brick. Have you thought about a cream or off-white color for the siding and dark umber or black shutters? You could paint your front door red - I've always loved houses with white siding, black shutters and red doors!

I think you have a lovely home and I don't think you really need to reside or paint it unless the siding is in poor shape, especially if you'll be selling. Granted it's not the best color choice, but I'd spend the money on adding more color with perennials and flowering bushes. Maybe add a block border/planter around your current landscaping raising the area around the tree at the corner of the house.

Well, we ordered our coach lights today. We will soon order some for the back of the house. Here is what we chose. I appreciate the assistance given. The one below is for the front of the house. It is in oil rubbed bronze -- much browner than in the picture. We ordered two larger ones to go beside the front door, and 3 medium ones (2 on either side of garage door, an one at the garage man door). We concluded that we need coach lights that did not extend too far (not deep ones), so we had to go a different direction. These lights have built in LED lights. The lights are made by Artcraft. Here is the ones we are ordering for the back of the house. There are 4 total along the back which is all one plane (not jogs out).

I'm not an architect or a designer ....just a lowly poster but something about the stone on the bottom and the weightiness. I could be totally off. Maybe one of the architects here or designers will weigh in on the columns. i chose my stone first. Then I chose my siding color to complement the stone. But, I had no choice as we had to have the stone months before the house project started. I would have done it the same way ...stone first.

I'd call it Tudor, but its probably more accurately a storybook cottage. Whatever you want to call it, what a neat house. It's adorable! I'd prefer a light stucco with dark trim. It's just what looks right to me. The green you have now reminds me a little of the green used in the brick and timber frame farmhouses in northern Germany.
